An associate is caught on tape stealing over 11000 in lottery tickets and attempting to walk away, prompting an internal investigation.

A Windixie cashier stole over $11,000 in scratch-off tickets, got caught on security cameras, and faced grand theft charges and probation.

Summary

Asmongold, hosting this eye‑opening case, walks us through how a single Windixie cashier manipulated lottery redemption to skim $11k in winnings. The store’s backend allowed instant redemptions without real tickets, enabling a clever but illegal balance on paper while the Florida Lottery flagged the overpayments. Surveillance footage captured the cashier repeatedly scanning tickets she deemed winners and pocketing cash for daily expenses, with the total theft pegged at about $10,653 in concrete video evidence and supporting ledger data. The investigation unfolded across store cameras, the retailer’s internal reports, and state lottery records, ultimately leading to a grand theft and scheme to defraud charge. The video also highlights how the employee’s attempts to “balance the register” unraveled when the lottery commission reviewed payouts and matched them against actual ticket activity. Windixie’s laborious, step-by-step documentation—thumb drives, PDFs, and Excel sheets—became the backbone of the case, showing every winning ticket scanned and every loser discarded. In the end, the suspect faced a court process, was placed under investigation, and received probation after a highly public walk-through of the store. This clip underscores how complex fraud can look mundane, and how modern cashless loopholes can be exploited before the system catches up.

Key Takeaways

  • Security cameras captured the cashier selectively cashing winning tickets while leaving others unredeemed.
  • The Florida Lottery overpaid thousands due to unauthorized auto-redemption tied to winning tickets, triggering the investigation.
  • Total proven theft through documented transactions was $10,653 with broader estimates around $11k over ~5 months.
  • The suspect faced grand theft and scheme to defraud charges, ultimately receiving probation after a probation violation.
  • Internal controls failed to stop the scheme until after state-level review and cross-checks with the lottery terminal data.

Who Is This For?

Essential viewing for retail workers and loss-prevention teams who want concrete examples of how lottery-ticket fraud can occur and be detected. Also valuable for stores using lottery terminals to understand the importance of strict redemption controls.

Employee thinks she can go home after spending stealing $11,000 in lottery tickets. Oh my god. Okay, let's see it. So, I just can't just go home. I can't just go home. No. More like you just stole a candy bar. Okay. I guess there's a question about almost $11,000 worth of lottery tickets. 11,000. Okay. But you don't have a video that is 50-minute videos and just saying we've all tried our luck with the lottery. Buy a ticket, scratch, and hope for a miracle. But what if that miracle never stood a chance because the cashier had already pocketed the winners. Meet a Wind Dixie cashier, a single mom who didn't just dream of winning the lottery, she rigged it. Uh-huh. She stole over $11,000 in scratchoffs and found a way to turn losing tickets into winners, hoping it would balance the register and keep everything under the radar. But the scheme fell apart when the Florida Lottery noticed they'd overpaid thousands of dollars to winners. An investigation caught her on camera, scanning only the winning tickets while leaving everyone else empty-handed. Here's what happened next. What a [ __ ] idiot. Who does this? All right. So, what's happening is we have an associate. Um, okay. We've started seeing This is Florida, isn't it? I think this is Florida. Some lottery shortage over here. For instance, ticketing online. Um, it started back around beginning of July. Has gone on till present. Beginning of July. Damn. Lottery cards. Lottery cards playing online. Kicker. Is that her? Yes. Okay. You want to go back in there for me real quick? Can you tell me what's going on? I can try to I don't know what's going on so I can try cuz I don't want She doesn't even know. Stuck out the door. I know. Well, we don't I don't know what's going on yet. So, let me talk to him and we'll go from there. Uh-huh. Um, so have her on video, you know, select the tickets mainly at the liquor store. She would just scratch the bottom to see if they're a win or not, discard them if they weren't, uh, cash them if they were, and there's also another process on the cash register to wear. Um, like if somebody brings up a winning ticket, we can key in instant lottery redemption and then put in the dollar amount and then we pay that out. Well, she figured out that she could do that even without a winning ticket and everything still balanced on the back end in our world. But then when we got the bill from lottery then obviously we're like she thought she was being smart too. You guar guaranteed. She thought she was being smart. Okay. Well, we paid out more redemptions than what we received. And so that's when all this started to unfold. Um so we're looking at um total that I can prove that she took was $10,653 something like that during that time. every instance on video. Every instance on video, I got it all on a thumb drive for you. Everything on video, I've got the our report that shows our redemptions on our register and then the all of the redemptions on the Florida lottery terminal. Since we don't own that, I had to get that through the state and that shows everything of what ticket she scan, what the value is on an Excel spreadsheet. So, that's how I handle everything. Holy [ __ ] Doesn't matter. There she goes. Anybody can do it, but it's her scheduled shift. And obviously on video, she's the only one at the liquor store cuz we usually only work one person deliver. So basically, she's been taking lottery tickets, scan the bottom if they're winners or not. If they're not winners, if they are winners, she scans them, takes money, and she found a way to get to make a lottery ticket. I mean, really, it's not that bad of a scam. I mean, for a lot of these, at least it's better than, you know, putting a pack of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups in your pants and then getting tased after fighting the officer and saying that you don't have anything in your pants, right? I mean, it's definitely more clever than that. She's peeking through the door. I bet she is. They have a draft full of all the depth and racketeering. I think so. We discovered There she goes. Um, so do you have like date and times written out? Do you have anything written out yet or no? Everything's on that thumb drive as far as expos. So she's basically taking lottery tickets, scanning them. Don't they have to be activated? They're all active because they're all, you know, she can Yeah, they're talking about you. Yep. Okay, I won't tell. Did he just shut the door on her? I won't tell you. We're trying to figure that out. I'm trying to figure out what I have. Okay. I'm going to figure out if we're taking a jail or not taking a jail. Well, I know. I will let you know. Once I know, I will let you know. Okay. So, can you sit down for me? I want my kids. went home and a child is in school right now having an asthma attack. So the kid's having an asthma attack. So now it's okay. Let me run away. Take a seat for me. We'll figure it out. Yeah. You know they'll let you desperate. So I just can't just go home. Why? Because the allegations I guess we have going on against going to investigate. Well, now that they did their investigation now they could. She's trying to get away so she can run away. That's what they have going on. Well, they're providing us a verbal statement. What's been going on since July? Okay. It's not more like you just stole a candy bar. Okay. I guess there's a question about almost $11,000 worth of That's a lot of candy bars. Okay. $11,000. That's insane. Is that something you just got? Let me see. You want you want that back or She's right. She's going to write something down. Oh. Uhoh. Uh oh. Here we go. She never wanted to stop. Yeah. Well, I mean, it's just I honestly This is a pretty clever scam, but yeah, of course they're going to catch you. I'll be right back. All right, I'm back. Sorry about that. We're good. They do instant lottery redemption as a as a hand keep and then they put $30. We give you 30 bucks. Well, everything balances in our world until the state, which we only get. So, the lottery commission picked up on it. That's what it was. You actually overpaid. We overpaid. We overpaid in redemption because she figured out that she could just do that instant auto redemption for no ticket and get and take whatever money she wanted out of the cash or fake. Correct. Or no winner or loser. Having a ticket, not even having a ticket. She just goes to goes in redemptions. $100 $100 ticket. Correct. You just computerized. Is that normal practice? 13. In my 15 years here, I've never had somebody figure that part out that they could just do it without actually getting online. So, obviously something on our back end. Kind of clever. That's impressive. All right. They gave her that opportunity. And then she played some online stuff, too. I mean, the online's probably a couple hundred bucks, but the rest is adds up to the, you know, 10,600 something dollars. Do you have a print out of I didn't print it out cuz it was just so big. I mean these reports are PDF that you uh USB that you have. What what is on it? I've got all the video um offered doing all this. It's very stupid. I have all the receipts. Yeah, security video. Well, people like this think they never get caught. That's the reason why file has all the That's always what it is. 88. You okay? Oh [ __ ] Scared the hell out of me. I always been out here. Huh? I just been out here. She also figured out I just saw that she got up over there and you moved back. So she jump cuz she told me to make a phone call. So I'm trying to think who can I call to get They get greedy and they caught. Yeah, exactly. Her children are about to get out of school. So she But I do need the same. Yeah. So that's what I'm trying to figure out cuz the people manipulate make sure they understand. So I'm trying to think who went around my house. I would I will try to figure it out. So while we're doing figuring out stuff out here so you figure out what's going on. So if you ask him if he hit the state that they were just talking to me about this 2 months ago. I will gladly ask you. Don't worry about that. But I'm telling you right now I'm going to be talking with them. We're going to figure out what we have going on. You have until by the time we come in here and talk to you about what's going on to figure out a ride for your family, for your kids and stuff. There's a possibility. Why? Because what do you mean why? You've been sitting there overhearing everything they're saying. What do you mean? Oh, I wonder why I'm going to jail. Like, even if you're acting innocent, you're hearing it. You can clearly hear it. You stole almost $11,000. And like the Cory and Charles that run this store, they had a conversation with me and they wrote me up for like I said, wait, so they already wrote you up for stealing lottery tickets? Let me figure out what they have over here. Just get somebody see if they can pick your kids up just in case if you do happen to go to jail. Think I'm trying to think who can I call. My family don't stay here. They say George need to figure out a family. Call my friends with child protection services. So, can I call y'all um one of the police officers that used to work with you guys? He used to or does tell you about the meeting we had? Hang on. See, now he don't want to say nothing cuz he's talking with us. I told you. He doesn't want to talk to you. Yeah. I wonder why. So, figure out what you're doing. Figure out somebody with your kids. Okay. Uh-huh. Can she walk me in the bathroom? No. I'm leading like No, she's walking with me. No, you're not going anywhere. I can't even go pee. No, you cannot go pee. Why do I supposed to use the bathroom? It's either you make phone calls now for somebody to get your kids. Okay, I'm helping you that or I put you in handcuffs or we just go. No, we're not doing that. [ __ ] we have to listen to It's mine. You're in my custody right now. You're not free to go. You're under investigative detention right now. Okay. Thank god this is a cop that actually doesn't put up with this [ __ ] Like I I love this. Yeah. He didn't give a [ __ ] You know what that means? So, what was the question? for the complaint just the extra total amount. See, we can just put I see if a police stand in front of me, they could they could deny me if you use the restroom. I love how like you think you're going to call some random person. What is this? Like who wants to be a millionaire? You're going to phone a friend and then like I'm going to You're going to say to the police officer, "Well, uh, I just called my friend and they said you can't do this." And the police officer is going to be like, "Oh my god, really? They said that? Well, it's two against one now. I guess I'm wrong. You get to run free." Like, how can you be this [ __ ] stupid? Really? It's unbelievable how these people think. Well, I guess they don't. You got to tell a liar in front of you. They're making accusations of you stealing $11,000 from Lindixi. Say it again. Okay. Because with when I started back over here, he's saying that um $11,000 worth of lotto I took. So the police stand here. I have to pee. Like I'm bleeding. Like he telling me no, I cannot go. You're bleeding? Wait, what? passive. He said, "No, she can't even go with me." He said, "I have to stay here." Come. The [ __ ] A period, I guess. Yeah. That makes sense. Before that email right there. T3. She said if a female pull up me, I should be able to go. It has to be law enforcement. Y'all can't stand at the door. Ain't no in the bathroom. Do you have a I need a female for a bathroom. Oh my gosh. No, the thing is I'm having a female officer come here and going to search you prior to you going to the bathroom. No, she can search you. You want me to take it? What's in my pocket? No, I'm opening my clothes. No, that's what's in my pocket. You're fine. The only thing in here is milk and it's leing. That's No, you're you are fine. He's saying no. I still can't go. Oh my god, bro. Being a police officer, man. Wow. Why don't you ask her see if she will um go pick up your little ones just in case you do have to come with me. I cannot hear you. Adult daycare. Yeah. She said the same thing you said. What? I'm sorry. When the police say something to me, I'll call somebody used to work for the police to work with. Okay. She said, "As long as it's a female officer, I can go. Other than that, if it's a male, I cannot go. I have to sit here and hold my hand." Damn. So, Mr. Art, so they didn't tell you about the write up they gave me for that. What's that? They didn't tell you about the write up that the whole conversation we had in here cuz I had it with Charles. That's fine. I mean, but but this is about the same thing you just the write up like you think she thinks a write up is going to like like then it's legal like Oh my god. Correct. Cuz at that point, we didn't we didn't know where the loss was coming from. He said he said the lot. He said he said the lotto the lotto is messing up. So you whatever you're doing, you need to stop. He said cuz it's a a lot of money for that. And then after that it was another one for the go time. I know. And so apparently apparently 3 days ago lottery police got contacted by Windixie about it. They compiled all the paperwork and all like the files and everything for Wayne Mixie. So there's a PDF up here with like tons of information on it about video surveillance I guess. So they have the whole thing like I mean she's dead to rights. Yeah. Each actual um duh scratch off ticket. But what she was trying to do with that guy is she was trying to make him agree with these like really general like vague statements so then she could reframe those statements as like him being okay with her doing it. That's why I think she was doing that. I mean at least that's what a smart person would do which means that's probably not what she was doing but I don't know. Times money value. I mean what we got like 11 grand over 5 months man. I mean that that's yeah that's that's that's that's corporate's problem. Well, it's theft. It's grand theft. William Dixie has their own corporate that investigates [ __ ] like this and they charges. If you wait 5 months to do this, well, they just knew about it 3 weeks ago because they got alerted by the state regarding I guess basically they sent a summary or whatever and I guess they said like, "Oh, you're you're over this amount because basically each ticket has a value." So she would go in just go to the computer and just take money out without scanning a ticket. So that they hit and then I guess that when they found out about it, they started investigating. They contact the lottery police. Lottery police sent him all the information. Um I guess he just got the rest of the information I don't know yesterday, today or two days ago. And then I guess uh she's here. So nobody's talked to her yet. Um, and I guess lottery police said that they have too high of a workload that they're not going to come take too many other scams. Simple grand theft and simple grand to come to the station to uh go this way to explain all the paperwork and 11K over 5 months. Is it even worth calling the police over? That's a pretty good amount to come to. Yeah, it probably get it probably goes up. I don't understand why they just don't do it, but whatever. Yeah, it's probably going up. So, I just need you to fill out a statement form. Basically, just put your information here. Okay? Down here, put her information. Okay? And then, let's just make this the easy way. So, on the statement form, just write um on this date at this time, I was informed of XYZ. Yeah. Um you think it stops with her? We get an investigation. It's probably a lot of lowle fraud like this that happens. Ultimately determined that from this month, this day to this month, this day, employee X was doing XYZ. Um, you contact the lottery police. Um, they went ahead and sent you over all the files as far as video, dates, times. I'm assuming the the transactions. Yeah, like all the video and all the registered transaction was from us. And then I had to go through the state to get the for the the lottery their lottery terminal reports. So that's what I contacted the scans of the actual scans. Right. And then just say you got all that information. Um just say that um it has been determined that the total amount of of of theft from um you know business or whatever is x amount. It's not just a step. It's an investment. I don't know. Pursue Yeah. I have no idea. Cool. I mean that's seems pretty simple. I mean we don't have to go too deep into yours, right? I mean I mean everything's on the thumb drive so well it's just there take some time to do day by day and each time and I mean that's a lot that's what I was going to say it's probably she depending on she says if she doesn't what it say uh Sanford is that it then we'll have to release her what police department investigation because it sounds like it's kind of in depth for months right so u once we arrest her the state has 33 days to file Stanford Okay. So, I was right. Make sense of it for them. That's all I wanted to know. That's all I wanted to know. I was right about the Florida thing. Have to go through the prosecution to get that. So, is it a loss or is it for the lottery? I'm at a loss for the value of tickets. You can just tell in the past you see them bellies for the value of tickets cuz that's my loss and then the state of that person for the winnings of those fraud tickets. So, that's what usually happens. That's even more in depth for the floor. Yeah. What's the total value for the almost for my loss is 10,000. Yeah. 10 103 10,000. That's a lot. The uh just the for the tickets. Yes. It's a federal case. So she won't get charged for a while. Yeah. Maybe you're Yeah. Depending on what you Yeah. So like I said, just on that just kind of like just date you found out about this, you began an investigation and you know just kind of the format of it. So because I likely I'll be I'll be doing the initial just a brief just we got here. So this is where he said it was handed over to them to spend the more manpower time to sit down and go through everything. So what's most likely going to happen is they're going to take the initial report. It'll come up to us and we're going to look at everything that you provide to them and kind of make sense of it for the state. She probably made like 60k. Yeah, you're right. There's probably a lot of it that they didn't catch. I mean that's why we hope usually the case. Who do you want? There she is. I don't really have a lot on, but I'll get a shot. Just understand. I always understand whatever. I just want What was your What was your I know your your last name is Bird. What was your first name again, ma'am? You can read my my I didn't say that. But in order for me to speak to you, okay, because you are detained, okay, because we are doing an investigation, in order for me to legally speak to you, I have to read you your Miranda warnings. Somebody said you're going to jail, okay? But I have to read these to you, okay? So, what was your first name? It states that the constitution requires that inform you that you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be used in court is evidence against you. You are entitled to talk to an attorney now or have him or her present now or anytime during questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you without cost. If you desire to consult with an attorney first or have one during the interview, just speak up at any time. If at any time hereafter you wish to remain silent or have an attorney presence, all questions will be stopped. Do you understand your rights? You willing to speak to me? Go ahead. Okay. Is that a yes? Is that a yes? In her redacted confession, the suspect admitted to taking lottery tickets to cover basic necessities like milk and other items for her newborn. Right. She also revealed that this wasn't a one-time thing. It had been going on for about 2 months. Her method was straightforward. Keep the winning tickets, cash them in, and throw away the losers. Yep. It seemed foolproof, but eventually her luck ran out. Well, cuz she did it too much. If you just did it for a few hundred bucks, you get away with it. But $11,000, people are going to remember that. That's a lot of [ __ ] money. Just there are resources out there, okay? And if you need help, you need to contact us, Salvation Army, uh, rescue outreach mission. There there's a whole different slew of things out there, okay? We have a pamphlet at our police department, which is my address, so I know where you live to make sure all your information is right. Awesome. Okay. So confus. Yeah. There are pamphlets we have that have no hundred different types of resources out there. Okay. Well, okay. What do I have to do with my address? So I know where you live. Why you got to know where I live? For a report. What the [ __ ] How is this? You're explaining to her why. Like you you literally defrauded them for like $11,000 and you're trying to figure out why they want your address. Like what what are you what? It doesn't even make sense. It's dumb as [ __ ] I just have to be on the report. Everything will be on a report. This is what's happening. Okay. You're going to take a ride to jail. Okay. So sit down. Who do you need to call? I don't have nobody to go get my kids. So come on. So come on. Come on, hang tight. We have We're going to take your We're going to All right, I've got the solution. We're going to pick your kids up on the way to jail and they're going to be in jail with you. Problem solved. We don't break up the family like the whole family go to jail. Some things that need to be handled over here. So, have a seat. Okay. What will be the charge? Grand theft and scheme of defraud. As of now, one count of grand theft and scheme to defraud, but there's going to be more counts of What do you mean? What is What do you think scheme to defraud is? Well, she probably doesn't know what the words mean down the road once they can go through everything and and atomize every individual transaction. So, every transaction is a theft. Yes, that's a felony charge. two felonies. But it's one count now, but it's going to add up. Okay. So, I won't get no bun. Okay. I believe there is. Don't quote me on it, though. All right. So, have a seat. The way she sits there, she's so mad. Hey, just just bring that later. I don't even need it. Come on. Out the door. I got to do it here. I don't need Stephen. It's crazy that like what's funny is that I have at least a little bit of sympathy for her because like I mean she's like, "Okay, I'm going to go to jail. All right. Yeah, I'll put my hands behind my back." Like I mean this is Isn't it crazy that this is one of the most reasonable ones? No taser. Like you're praying like this. Stop pulling from me. Never mind. Put your hand behind your back. Damn. Damn. You're going to have to go through the whole warehouse and everybody's going to see you. Oh jeez. Stop pulling. Do you understand that? I don't walk down the stairs. Doesn't matter. You're pulling from me. You don't do anything that I don't tell you to do. Do you understand that? My hand on your couch. Do that car. I'm not happy just The suspect was ultimately charged with felony grand theft and sentenced to 2 years of probation. However, after violating her probation, she ended up serving 8 months behind bars. Should have been a lot. The real question is with all those tickets she scratched, did she ever think the jackpot she'd hit would be a cell? Drop a comment below and don't forget to subscribe. That's so [ __ ] funny to me, man. Bro, they're taking her through Dude, they're taking her through the entire store. So, it it's not just like the employee warehouse or something like that. Oh, no. No, you're going through the employee warehouse and then after that you're going all the way through Wind Dixie. Oh, that's good. Yeah, the walk of shame. I love it, man. I absolutely love it. Uh, eight months for 11 can theft is wild. I know it should be a lot more. There's the video. That was really [ __ ] funny, man. And uh yeah, 100% other employees knew exactly why. Maybe. I don't know what happened or why it was, but yeah, I think there's a lot of these happen. $450 scam. Oh god. There's What are these 600 $66,000 coupon scam? Oh my god. Were the losses ever recuperate recouped? I have no idea if they were or not. I don't know. And this is like police chases on the new Yeah. I mean, this one was relatively tame, I would say. Like, she mostly cooperated. I mean, she pretty much cooperated. And, you know, like there were no real issues. And yeah, wow. Like, you're just scammed. Like, you shouldn't have done it, right? And what's really funny about this to me is that if more people would just act the way that she did, they wouldn't rack up five different additional charges. Like, she was out. She didn't even go to jail for this. She just got probation. Like and then you know she [ __ ] that up, right? Because that's what people that are dumb do. But at the same time like you really got away from this whole thing. You did like you got away from this and you shouldn't have but you did. I got caught stealing Zip Drive in 12th grade in 1999. What the [ __ ] And uh it was like Game of Thrones shaming her. Yeah, exactly. We need a taser deploy one. Well, you know what? This one wasn't as brutal. We'll watch another one tomorrow. Okay. I will watch another one tomorrow. So, I I will get into it because obviously, you know, we we've seen a number of these
