Introduces Operation Epic Fury and explains the rescue of the F-15E crew in the rugged Zagros mountains.

Thrilling, highly detailed breakdown of a daring rescue operation in Iran, highlighting elite U.S. teamwork, gear, and mountain warfare prowess.

Summary

Asmongold presents a gripping, play-by-play account of a high-stakes rescue operation in the Zagros mountains, where a downed F-15E crew member was pulled from behind Iranian lines. The piece lays out the key players: Air Force pararescuemen (PJs), Navy SEALs from Delta Force, Green Berets, and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Nightstalkers), all backed by A-10s, MQ-9 Reapers, and MC-130J commando aircraft. He details the terrain—7,000-foot ridges, rocky valleys, and harsh, high-altitude terrain—to explain why this mission was both incredibly dangerous and incredibly precise. The narrative touches Trump’s public framing of the rescue, the Iran-backed hunt by IRGC forces, and the meticulous joint planning, rehearsals, and real-time adaptability that kept the rescue force alive. Throughout, Asmongold emphasizes the enormous investment in SEIR training, the reliance on silent comms, and the seamless integration of air cover and ground assault. He closes with admiration for the personnel involved and a call for viewer engagement. The tone blends a historian’s precision with a fan’s adrenaline, offering a pop-history lens on modern special operations.

Key Takeaways

  • The rescue hinged on a tightly integrated joint force: PJs, Delta Force, Green Berets, and Nightstalkers, coordinated with A-10s, F-35s, and MQ-9s for overwatch and suppression.
  • MC-130J Commando 2 transports and MH-6 Little Birds enabled deep penetration and rapid insertions, followed by strategic exfiltration under enemy pressure.
  • The rugged Zagros terrain—7,000 ft ridges and steep, loose shale—made movement slow and meticulous, underscoring the value of SEER training and discreet radio comms.
  • Overhead Reaper drones provided eyes in the sky while electronic warfare aircraft jammed Iranian radars and comms, creating a window for extraction.
  • Two MC-130Js got bogged down in sand on exit, prompting last-minute demolition charges to destroy aircraft and prevent propaganda leverage by Iran.
  • The operation reportedly involved a second daylight rescue after the initial pick-up, illustrating boldness and contingency planning at the highest level.
  • No Americans were killed; the Wizzo (the rescued colonel) sustained injuries but survived, proving the mission’s success and the military’s “never leave a warfighter behind” ethos.

Apparently, people said this was a really good video that explains everything. We got them. On April 5th, 2026, day 37 of Operation Epic Fury, US special forces rescued the second crew member of the F-15E fighter jet that was shot down over Iran. Saturday's operation was conducted by a specialized commando unit with a high volume of air cover. The US forces unleashed a hail of heavy fire. It's crazy that like I see this and I get triggered cuz I played Black Desert and people had like this this ghillie suit thing. It was the most annoying unit like a buff in the game. It's so And that all forces are now Iran. This wasn't just some easy pickup though. This happened right in the heart of the incredibly rugged Zagros mountains in southwestern Iran in the Chamahar and Baktari province near Dashot. We're talking steep, jagged ridge lines topping over 7,000 ft, deep rocky valleys, loose shell slopes, and unforgiving high altitude terrain that's perfect for hiding, but absolutely hell for moving fast, especially when you're injured and being hunted by the IRGC. This video will recount the actual rescue operation of the F-15 E-Wizzo. And President Trump posted this. He said, "We got him. My fellow Americans, over the past several hours, the United States military pulled off one of the most daring search and rescue operations in US history for one of our incredible crew member officers, who also happens to be a highly respected colonel, and who I am thrilled to let you know is now safe and sound. This brave warrior was behind enemy lines in treacherous mountains of Iran, being hunted down by our enemies who were getting closer and closer by the hour. But he was never truly alone because of his commander-in-chief, Secretary of War, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and fellow war fighters were monitoring his location 24 hours a day and diligently planning for his rescue. But the IRGC wanted to get him first. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was searching the entire area, including using their elite units and local militias. They The elite units. Wow. swarmed the Black Mountain area with everything they had. Villagers were even offered big cash rewards by Tran to join the hunt and turn in the American for a major propaganda win for Iran. But America answered the call with overwhelming force. Elite special operations teams including Air Force special warfare par rescue men, the legendary PJs so that others may live is their motto and naval special warfare development group operators on the ground as well. Integrated team of special operators making it happen. Likely Delta Force could have been involved. Army Rangers, Green Berets, and then backed by the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, also known as the Nightstalkers. They fly the MH6, the AH6 Little Birds for lightning fast insertions, fire support, HH60W Jolly Green helicopters for heavy combat rescue airlift and A10 Thunderbolt 2's overhead for brutal close air support. And this video right here is said to be the actual final firefight. This is the final scene with likely A-10s rolling in, striking down some of these combatants that are trying to get to the F-15 E WizO before US forces. And yeah, apparently like I don't know if he's going to show this video or not, but like they were running around screaming they've killed us. Like oh my god, like you know, like they've got like they're like counting the amount of people they had killed. Oh yeah, they totally got annihilated. Massive firefight took place. Why don't they show video? Reaper drones were overhead. MQ9 Reapers. This report just came in. US MQ9 Reaper drones protected the rescued F-15 crew member by striking Iranian military-aged males believed to be a threat who got within 3 km of the airmen. A person familiar with the operation told Air and Space Forces magazine this exact quote. MC130J Commando 2 transports slipped into austere strips deep behind enemy lines and likely even F-15E fighters going out to protect their member of their squadron plus A-10s, F-35s, other birds up ahead, providing air cover and jamming Iranian systems and signals and communications from Tran to the IRGC. And President Trump also said this. He said, "We have rescued the seriously wounded and really brave F-15 crew member officer from deep inside the mountains of Iran." The Iranian military was looking hard in big numbers and getting close. He is a highly respected colonel. This type of raid is seldom attempted because of the danger to man and equipment. It just doesn't happen. The second raid came after the first one where we rescued the pilot in broad daylight. Also unusual. Wait a minute. So they got him in the middle of the I I just kind of assumed it happened. Wow. Spending several hours over Iran. An amazing show of bravery and talent by all. This was one of the most daring search and rescue operations in US history. And it reminds the world that the US will never leave an American war fighter behind. No Americans were killed in the operation. The Wizo injured but safe. And US forces proved total dominance. Today we're walking through every fact that we know and the full story of how this daring rescue operation culminated in the safe rescue of this weapon systems operator. But it did culminate in one of the biggest firefights during a rescue operation in US history. And this going down is going to change everything. So there was a massive firefight and we didn't lose anybody. Honestly, I'm starting to believe that like, you know, that stuff that like Palmer Lucky brings to show Joe Rogan, the like, you know, the helmets that can see through walls and I'm starting to think that that's not the best stuff that we have. Yeah, I'm starting to just Oh, maybe. You know what? I think there's probably something that's beyond that. Heard about US special operations versus the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp. So it all started April 3rd, 2026 when that F-15E Strike Eagle was taken down by Iranian fire over the Zagros mountains near Dashot. Wreckage photos surfaced fast as Iranian forces claimed the kill of the shootown. Both the pilot and the highly respected colonel ejected safely, but they were separated on the ground. They ejected at altitude so the winds can change the trajectory of those parachutes. They could land a mile or two away. The pilot was rescued the next day in an initial seaar push, but the HH60W Jolly Green helicopters that got the pilot took incoming fire and were damaged shoot. See, remember that crew members? Yeah, they're shooting shooting AK-47s on those helicopters were wounded, but they made it back to base safely. US officials stayed quiet on the second rescue to protect the colonel while he was evading. Meanwhile, IRGC units behind the scenes and locals around the Black Mountain were actively hunting the Colonel with bounties on his head of $60,000 US, turning the entire region into a high game of 60,000 US. I've gotten sponsorships to play video games for less than that. I mean, really, it's pathetic. Or for for more than that. I mean like that that's embar like really what are we talking about 60 grand including CIA assets kept constant eyes on the colonel weapon system the whole time but the colonel's solo survival story and those brutal mountains is even more incredible than what you can imagine. Let's step into the colonel's boots. This part is pure inspiration and it shows why SEIR survival evasion resistance escape training is worth every second and every penny that the US military spends on it. After ejecting, the colonel hits the rocky ground hard, sustains injuries, but instantly switches into full evasion mode. He moves away from the burning wreckage as quickly as possible, using the steep terrain to break line of sight with IRGC search parties. He climbs through those jagged 7,000 ft ridgeel lines under the cover of darkness, choosing rocky crevices and shale slopes that make tracking difficult for ground teams or dogs. He avoids open areas and villages. Bro, this movie when it comes out in like 5 years is going to be insane. Can you imagine that? All this with a broken ankle. So, he was climbing up a mountain with his gear on, evading the IRGC after crashing his fighter jet, and he had a broken ankle, too. Oh my god. Best he can. Staying high where patrols are less likely to move fast and capture him. From his perspective, it probably went something like this. The cold mountain air cut deep, ankle or leg throbbing from the landing, but sear kicks in immediately. Ditch the shoe and anything that could reflect light or make noise. Then start moving uphill away from the crash site. Slow, deliberate, using every shadow and ridge line to stay hidden. Find a good crevice, settle in, and activate the combat survivor evader locator beacon. No long voice calls the enemies could triangulate, just short encrypted data bursts via satellite that frequency hop and look just like noise to the enemy. Send preloaded messages injured but mobile. Enemy active nearby. Request extraction window ASAP. That combat survival radio, that's the silent lifeline. Boeing built an ejection proof. It keeps sentcom updated in real time without compromising the colonel's position. So, here's what the colonel likely did. Rationed his water, ate some of the emergency food. Got to keep the energy levels high so you can stay mobile and keep moving fast to stay away from those IRGC patrols. But you I'm surprised that he even moved at all. Like I mean if that was me like I mean I'm not I don't not trained at all. Like what I would do is I would just get pretty far away and then I would just bury myself in the dirt bro. Like I would just say you know what hope they get me right? I mean I don't know like that's you'd be dead I guess right. I haven't gone through a training like yeah like yeah I don't know what I would do. Saddam style. Yeah well that didn't work for him. You have to breathe. Well I mean I would I have my head a little bit my head out right. So, need to stay motionless for hours when you hear those IRGC vehicles or voices echoing up from the valleys below. Then relocate only when it's safe. Climb higher or shift to new cover to throw off the search. Bounty hunters, militias, IRGC, special ops are out there trying to get you. Drones possibly scared. Imagine Imagine you have the entire military, everybody. I mean, because you got to know that the Iranian military getting this guy is like their top priority. Like, this is the main thing that they care about. They're investing everything that they possibly can into getting this. Yeah, you've got five stars, bro. Like, they're sending in everything after you and they don't get them. That's bad. ridges, but trust your training, the sear, the deception operations that are going on behind the scenes to feed the enemy information that you've already been extracted. Nearly 48 hours of pure discipline, minimal movement by day, careful navigation by night, conserving energy while your body fights the pain and the cold. But this colonel knew he was never truly alone. The president, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, secretary of war, and other war fighters from his unit and from special operations forces are out there ready to scoop him up when the time is right. As soon as the wizo confirmed that he was alive through the different techniques and tactics that you use for Seir, Sentcom went into full go mode. Presidential task force spins up a massive joint special operations unit to go in and get the colonel the prep. I mean, it's crazy that they did all this in like 2 days, too. And you know what's really funny is that while they were doing all this over the two days, there were a bunch of like weirdos on the internet that were like having their latest hysteria fit about fantasizing about Donald Trump actually being dead while simultaneously they were like rescuing a guy inside of Iran. It's just like, OH, I THINK THEY DIED. DAD. Oh my god. Lightning fast but razor sharp. Intelligence briefs on IRGC movements, rehearsals on similar mountainous terrain at forward bases, and contingency plans for everything from sand traps to heavy contact to IEDs, improvised explosive devices. On the ground, you had Air Force special warfare pair rescue men, the PJs that live by the motto so that others may live. teamed up with Navy Seals elite commandos from Delta Force and also Green Berets. In the air, the 160th Soore Nightstalkers brought the MH6s, those little birds. Also, you have HC130J combaters for refueling and MC130J Commando 2 transports that can land on rough strips deep in enemy territory and get everybody out, reports are saying. And also this video right here from inside of Iran is a sighting of a C295W from the secretive Air Force Special Operations Commands 427th Special Operations Squadron flying at low altitude over Iran during the operation. This is a rare glimpse of the I would be so scared, bro. Like if I was over there and I saw any of those airplanes, I would be gone. I I would be like uhuh. Nope. Nope. Not for me. highly specialized platform supporting deep penetration missions. And then overhead A10 fighters with their GA 8 cannons, MQ9 Reaper drones for eyes in the sky, plus surveillance and electronic warfare aircraft jamming Iranian radars and comms. This was years of training and investment coming together in real time. But none of that prep would have mattered without the intense close quarter battle that erupted once the teams hit the ground under the cover of darkness. See, that was crazy to me is like the fact that they had a massive firefight and they didn't lose anybody is probably the biggest surprise because that's the same thing that happened with Maduro, too. And you would expect that the Iranians would be more organized and more like better trained than, you know, I guess Maduro's guys, but I don't think it really mattered. Late on April 4th, stretching into the early morning hours of April 5th, 2026, the rescue package went in deep, straight into contested territory south of Istafon, near missile bases, nuclear sites, and Iranian assets. Nightstalker helicopters inserted the special operations ground teams near the Wizo's hide site in the mountains around Dashed and Black Mountain. Reapers and strike aircraft provided overwatch while the team linked up with the colonel in his hiding spot, stabilized him right there, and started moving him out. But that's when Iranian forces, who had been hunting them relentlessly, closed his heart on the extraction site, triggering a massive firefight. US special operations unleashed a high volume of heavy suppressive fire, fighting with everything they had so that others may live. Also, I wonder if they're going to I bet they won't. I I do. I don't think that we're going to get anything. So, but we might get like one or two from Iran's point of view. Like, what is it even like whenever you're fighting these guys? Because like I I I don't even know like cuz I I bet they probably have they probably use the same tech that they used with Maduro, right? And so I wonder if anything would even work. A10C Thunderbolts up overhead rolled in with devastating close air support while little birds added rockets and many gunfire. It was fierce and close quarters and there's rumors of burned out Littlebird wrecks at the crash site showing exactly how hot the engagement got in the dashed area. This was one of the deepest penetrations into defended Iranian territory in modern times. Iranian forces actively trying to stop the rescue, but warriors from the USA held the line. They protected the colonel and kept the fight under control. I also think that like what I'm happy about with this is that it totally gets rid of that entire narrative that the Iranian military was like really well trained and they were totally ready for the United States to send in their troops. Okay. Well, that didn't work. Yeah. After that firefighter brought its own edge of your seat drama. The rescue force now with the freed colonel rendevued at the remote austere Ford airfield and Ford arming refueling point just south of multiple MC130J commando 2 transports landed inside enemy territory to pull everyone out but two of the MC130Js got bogged down in the soft sand wheels sinking in with no safe way out with Iranian forces closing in. There was zero time to waste. US special operations teams rigged demolition charges and destroyed the aircraft in place, setting them ablaze to deny Iran any technology, wreckage or propaganda win. Thick black smoke rose from the hulks and burned out little birds were also left at the site after their critical role in the fight. The call went out right away. Three replacement aircraft came in. Maybe those 295Ws loaded the entire force, including the stabilized colonel and exfiltrated everyone safely out of Iran and back to friendly airspace. Mission complete. No loose ends left behind, proving once again why America's military is the greatest fighting force the world has ever seen. So, from the Colonel Solo, I mean, I I I knew they were good, right? But like I'm gonna be real like after that Maduro thing like I I I I was like what the bro? Especially whenever they had that interview with the guy where he was just like yeah everybody just started bleeding and they they started everybody just died. I was like what the man perspective from those brutal Zagros mountains to the intense firefight and gritty Xville. This operation showcases exactly what makes the US military unmatched. Elite teams executing their operations under fire. World class aircraft and systems delivering results and that ironclad American commitment to never leave a war fighter behind. The Wizo sustained injuries but is now safe in friendly territory. So, hats off to the rescue teams. So proud of all the different special operations forces and the special aviation units that made this happen as well as the fighter pilots that were up overhead protecting this whole operation, the drone operators that were the eyes in the sky protecting this weapon systems operator. My hat goes off to all these exceptional warriors that were involved in this operation. What part of this rescue operation are you most fired up about? Let me know in the comments below.
