Some developing news that we've been keeping across for the last few hours. Armed forces, which also head the government there, say armed groups attacked several of their positions across the country. Witnesses reported intense fighting in a town near the capital Bamako where leader lives and other key cities in Mali as well. The military jun which took power after a coup in 2020 now claims the militant groups have been repulsed, their equipment destroyed and have urged people to stay calm. Well, these are some of the pictures which came into us earlier showing an area near the best news from the French outside Bama. Well, the French it makes sense. Didn't the French didn't they like kind of like I mean they colonize the [ __ ] out of Africa, right? orders were deployed to block off roads in the area and we could hear some uh gunfire in the distance. UK's foreign office has advised against all travel to Marvi. It's kind of like uh you know like you you'll let a uh it's like I feel like the French they want to check in on them, right? Holy [ __ ] residents that I've spoken with saying he's got to wear headphones in security presence and some gunfires are still being heard around some parts of the capital city and even um residents say they woke up early this morning to sound of explosions um Bamaku and even people say they also heard explosions at the military base just near Bamaku which is the capital city of bonfire have also been heard in many parts um the military um leader uh and the military in the country have told people to be calm that they pushing back at um what they've called terrorist groups that have attacked parts of the city. I think yeah I think they're terrorists seems like and do we have any confirmation is there any confirmation yet of who these armed groups actually are? There aren't any official confirmations from any of the um active groups that are in in the city. However, um we do know that the spokesperson of FLA, which is a group that is um pushing for separation out of the country, a Tuare ethnic group, have said that they actually um did take part of the the the cities, but this can be independently confirmed yet as a country still look at that. It's been out for thousands of years confirmed. I don't know why they can't get their [ __ ] together. I I don't I don't get it. Like I mean like godamn guys like come the [ __ ] on. But but there are lots of it is what it is already years that have been active in my [ __ ] problem in in Mali and just briefly remind us if you can so the military in charge of the country at the moment. So in 2020 the military took power under um the general Asim Goita and he promised that he was going to push back and clam down on insurgency which has plagued the country for many years now for years have seen attacks from Turkled groups um that are trying to sort of enforce their presence and even take over parts of the country but also there are um al Qaeda allied groups like Janim that are very al-Qaeda of course in the country and even the um groups that have also been allied to Islamic State that are now increasingly being active in the country and this was the background to which the military took over power but since 2020 we have also seen attacks continuing to happen and this is practically after the country um sort of severe ties with western partners and moved closer Seems like it's not so bad.
