Summary
Carwow’s Matt Watson hosts a spirited drag-race showdown between Lamborghinis and electric cars, testing straight-line speed in rolling heats and full-quarter-mile sprints. The Smart Brabus #5 leads early, boasting 646 hp and all-wheel drive, while the Lamborghini Huracan Performante carries a 5.2 L V10 and a sub-1.5-ton silhouette. Viewers get a behind-the-scenes look at tire heat, traction challenges, and the quirks of launch control in damp conditions. Phil’s Huracan and Tommy’s Aventador SVJ offer contrasting launches and brake-test moments that add drama to each matchup. The Tesla Model S Plaid arrives with 1,020 hp across three motors, delivering blistering roll-ons and a notable brake-test upset as a full car-load of passengers influences the run. Sean’s Lamborghini Revuelto (the final boss) is put to the test against the Tesla in a high-stakes, head-to-head push. In the end, Tesla proves its all-round versatility, especially when laden with ballast, while the Revuelto falls short in a dramatic conclusion. The video wraps with a quick recap of quarter-mile times and an invitation to viewers to suggest future drag battles.
Key Takeaways
- The Smart Brabus #5 with dual motors and 646 hp showed strong initial acceleration despite its 2.4-ton weight, especially in early rolling runs.
- The Huracan Performante’s 640 hp and 1.5-ton weight still faced traction and limiter challenges in damp conditions, exposing grip limits on launch.
- Tesla Model S Plaid’s three-motor setup produced rapid roll-on performance, with the car achieving a 10.5s quarter-mile when loaded and a competitive 10.4s when empty.
- The Revuelto vs. Plaid ended with the Tesla delivering a clean win in the best two of three, highlighting the electric trio’s torque and all-wheel-drive grip in real-world drag conditions.
- Brake-test episodes revealed Teslas can out-brake some heavy Lamborghinis in certain configurations, while carbon-heavy supercars show heat and weight-related braking drawbacks in the same session.
- The final leaderboard summarized times, showing the Tesla’s advantage in multiple configurations and the limits of high-end ICE cars on damp tarmac.

The brakes aren't working, Sam. What do I do? What will happen in a drag race between a bunch of Lamborghinis and some electric cars? Well, we're going to find out by racing them over the standing quarter mile. I'm Matt Watson and you're watching Car Wow. Right, the way this video is going to work is we're going to run in heat and we're going to see if some electric cars can beat some very desirable internal combustion engine cars. And we'll start with a smart Brabus #5. It has 646 horsepower and 710 new m of torque from dual motors.
These give it all-wheel drive and launch control. It weighs around 2.4 tons and cost just under £52,000. This Lamborghini Huracan Performante has a 5.2 2 L naturally aspirated V10 with 640 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. This drives all four wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox with launch control. The car weighs just under 1.5 tons and it's worth about 185,000. Now, this could be a bit of an upset, couldn't it? This 50 grand smart electric car, beating a Lamborghini Huracan performante. Let's try and psych the owner of that car out. Phil, this is a dead S for you.
I mean, if you don't win, it's going to be very, very, very, very embarrassing, surely. I don't want to lose to a milk float, that's for sure. But ultimately, Matt, it's going to be a tough race. It's damp. I've got Pirelli P 0 Trofeo RS tires on. Not a good choice. Yeah, I mean, you might want to go warm those up for a bit. In fact, you know what? We'll warm them up immediately by getting on with the first race, which shouldn't really affect you too much with your Trafo RS because we're going to do a rolling race, third gear.
I don't have any gears, but I'll set it at 50 mph and we'll race to the half mile marker. See which car gets there first. That'll get a bit of heat into your tires. We'll see what happens from then on in. Sounds good. 3 2 1 go. Right. I'm going to beat him to the quarter mark. Is he going to come? It's not even going to come back. He's not going to come back. I'm going to beat you. Oh no, my car is at a speed limiter. What? You are lucky. You won by the nast margin because my car hit a speed limiter.
If it wasn't for that, you were lost. Do you know? I thought that there was going to be a limit around 130, I'm assuming, and I just had to get up to that speed. Exactly. But for an electric car, this was pulling hard up until that point. Now, this is going to put your Trale R to the test. We're going to do a brake test. This could be funny. Oh dear, Phil. Oh dear. Yeah. And the engine cut out as well, which is interesting. It is very interesting. Well, it's interesting for me. It's probably more worrying for you cuz that's your car.
It's fired back up now. But yeah, I thought exactly that was going to happen. It scribbled around. There's no heat. ABS was kicking in and yeah, a disaster. Hopefully the next challenge won't be a disaster for you. Otherwise, this will be humiliating. Let's get down onto the start line. There is something that you might Well, you'll definitely win. Let's do this next thing and your car will shine now. Oh, and Phil, we're going to do a sound check. The only sound I can make is this. Let's hear your horn. The draw that is. Let's hear the sound of your car, your engine.
So nice. That engine's so nice. But is it going to deliver the goods in this race? So, we're going to do a rolling drag race. So, we're going to roll in first gear, 10 mph. Starters going to start us. Soon as the hands start to go down, we're going to race. And we're going to race over the half mile. Hopefully, I'm going to get far enough ahead that my limiter won't limit me too much. Let's do it. 3 2 1. What happened to his car? I mean, he's dropped. I'm going to hit a limiter very soon.
I'm hitting it now. The limiter's coming in. It's coming back. Oh, hell. Oh no. Oh no. U Phil, did you have your car in automatic mode, not manual? It was in normal manual mode. That was you doing as good as you could do? Absolutely. That was manual as fast as I could go and I I changed into second so I had the full rev range at as we went over the start line. When we were at the start line, you should be in first gear. No, it was it was right at the top of the rev range at about five.
So, I wanted to just in second, you've got the full gear to put the traction down. Oh, well, it was your choice, mate. I think that was the wrong thing to do, but so be it. Um, let's drag race then. 3 2 1 No, he's had it. Oh, hello. He's close. Oh, no. Yes. Maybe. No, he's coming back. Oh, he's coming. Uh, what happened, Phil? Bogged down. Just wouldn't launch. I could do better than that for sure. I know you could, but will you? Here we go. One more go. Three. Oh crap. What happened there?
He cocked a gear shift or something. Oh, clear win for you there, Phil. My lord was a bit off the pace. Anyway, it was best two out of three. So, one more drag race for the decider. Oh, will he pull it back? I don't think so. Wheel spin. Got him. I'll give you this, Phil. Your car is faster when it hooks up, but it's just unpredictable as to whether it's going to hook up with those tires on. Right now, this thing can just manage the traction and it does the same time every single time. Absolutely.
Consistency. um a warmer day and as you say we bet with different tires on less track focused tires it would be uh a different scenario. It would but it's not today so he's knocked out. What a shame. Let's get another Lamborghini. This Aventador SVJ has a 6.5 L naturally aspirated V12 with 770 horsepower and 720 new m of torque. This drives all four wheels via 7-speed single clutch automatic gearbox with launch control. It weighs 1,650 kg and is worth around £450,000. Tommy, you've changed the color of your SVJ again. Yes, I I I like making noise when I come here.
Yeah. So, it's loud. Well, it's white and obviously you got a very loud exhaust on it. We'll hear that in a moment. Have you sold your RoelTto? Yeah, I did sell my Roalto. Did you sell it easily or was it difficult to sell? Uh, I sold it when I was buying the 918, so it made it easier to sell, but I feel like if I wasn't buying something else that was way more, it would have been it would have been a struggle. So, you've seen a Roaltto here today. Do you miss yours or do you just prefer the SVJ?
I miss looking at it, but I don't miss having one. Uh, it was a cool car. I prefer having the SVJ. It's just in terms of residual value, the safer car to have. Okay, so let's take all that financial shenanigans out of the mix. If that was not an implication and they were going to depreciate the same and all that kind of stuff, which one would you have? SVJ. And that is why the SVJ actually holds its value better. Exactly. It's just it's raw, right? This is like one of the last raw supercars. So people just love that.
Fair enough. Well, let's see how it gets on. See if it can beat a fridge on wheels or whatever you want to call this. I know that's more powerful, but sometimes it struggles to put its power down when it comes to the launch, doesn't it? But we'll find out. Let's first slow do a rolling race. Third gear roll on. 50 mph. It's a race over the half mile. 3 2 1. No, no, no, no. I didn't say go, did I? Ready? 3 2 1 go. like I'm going to top out 133. That gave me a gap.
Is he? He's coming back now. Come on. Please, please, please let me at least win. Oh, even by cheating a bit, I didn't win. Probably served me right. He was worried though. He was worried. You just about won there. Just about won. It was the most surreal experience seeing you shoot off and then it was like you hit a wall and I just came straight past you. Speed limiter at 133. So, I'm quite glad that you jumped the start because that gave me an opportunity. If you hadn't jumped it, you'd gone properly. You'd have absolutely mowled me there.
So close, but yet so far for me. Let's do a brake test. All right. I can't possibly win with a brakes. My car is almost one ton heavier than yours. That is insane. You're like carbon fiber body and even though you got a massive engine, it's just not as heavy as batteries. Now, if you'd rather watch another drag race with a bunch of Lamborghinis, click on the pop out up there or scan the QR code on screen now or follow the link in the description. Oh no, I'm scooting on now. Dang. It was closed for a while.
It was closed. Help. I've got the smart guy chatting to me. Go away. It was closed for a while. How may I help you? No. Go away. Shut up. Yeah, it was closed for a while. from chat GPT. As I was saying, it was closed for a while, but then the last bit of stopping, my car was just absing like crazy. Yeah, it looked like it was going to flip over on its front like that. It was really weird to look at. Yeah, whereas yours was just like flat like a super car, I guess. And this was like a big heavy electric car.
Let's try another race and hopefully I can win that. Sorry, but I can't help. Chat GPT in the smart won't shut up. Hey, this car just keeps talking to me in a monotone voice and saying it can't help me. But it definitely can't help me cuz it keeps interrupting me. Sorry, but I can't help you with that right now. Why do you keep going on you? I'm not bonding with this car before the next race. Tommy, we have to do a sound check. And I'm going to give you a sound check of my bra. And this is it.
What would you like to do next? Make a loud noise. Okay. Don't just say okay. Make a loud noise. Okay. Well, I tell you what. Why don't you make a loud noise then, Tommy? I can feel it in my chest. Oh. Oh, yeah. We got We got an explosion there. That was nice. I was trying to time it to make it happen. Can you do it again? Go on. We got some good ones there. some good ones. Anyway, we're going to rolling race and you'll see me hit my speed limiter wall. Bye-bye. Can I beat him to the quarter mile?
I'm going to hit a wall in a bit. Oh, I beat to the quart mile. Look at the gap now. Oh, look at that as well. The flames are lovely. I beat you to the quarter mile. I'll give myself that. But then you just totally got me. Yeah, that car actually looks really nice. I like that Braber Smart. I think it's pretty cool. Very slow on the top end though. It is. Uh to be fair though, you are going well over the speed limit at that point. So on the road, you're going to just think it's dead quick.
So you're going to be getting one of these. You'll probably have it for how long? How long do would you keep a car? It's probably 2 months. Uh yeah, maybe. Maybe longer. It'll be nice to take my son to nursery in. Yeah, it would actually. It's quite cool inside like with the red seat belts and stuff like it's spacious. You might actually like it. You should call them up and borrow it. You probably will actually quite like it. Apart from when the man just talks at you and won't go away. Okay, let's do the drag race cuz this is what really matters.
And I'm wondering if I might just be able to beat you seeing as I just beat you over the quarter mile. This would be humiliating for you, Tommy. And I would very much like to pull that out the bag. Let's do it. Oh god, I have to win or else I'm going to get destroyed by the Lambo fanboys online. 3 2 1. A lot of noise next to me. Oh. Oh, clean. Oh, it's just at the top. FIGHTS. LET'S GO. WELL, I'M BEING a smart car. Oh, blime me. Oh, that sounds so good. That was That was fun.
It was kind of close at first, but then this just like I ran out of puff. That was a fun race. I was celebrating him, but then I realized I I beat a smart car, so there's not really much to celebrate about. Don't forget your mobile phone. Oh, no. That is useful. That is actually useful. To tell you the truth, I'm going to go get another car. Um, which hopefully will beat Tommy and his event at all. This Tesla Model S Plaid has three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear, giving it 1,020 horsepower and 1,420 new m of torque and all-wheel drive.
It weighs almost 2.2 tons and is worth around £80,000. Hey Tommy, say hello to my little friend. He's actually very very large actually. My very large friend. So, um I I've brought some serious horsepower and torque to this drag race and I'm feeling a lot more confident now. But do you have that funny steering wheel? The yoke. You're having a yoke, aren't you? I mean, it is fast, but at the end of the day, like, is that all that matters? Well, in a drag race. Yeah, I guess. Yeah, we are here drag racing. say, "Yes, it's all that matters." But we're going to rolling race fast.
My battery is on 89%. The Tesla fanboys are going to go crazy. They'll be like, "You got to be drag racing on like maximum battery." But we are where we are. The more runs you do, the more PS you do, the less fuel you have, the light your car is, which benefits you. And conversely, for me, the more I do, the less power I might have. up a few runs, make some errors, and um I could actually you could actually win if I if my battery is low enough. The only way I can win this race is if four people get in that car with you and you give me a head start.
Because how much more horsepower do you have? I have a lot more horsepower. Actually, let's get four people in this car. Let's make it fair. Four people. Come on. If I still lose, this is going to be very embarrassing. Right. Okay. Everyone's on board. So, we've added some ballast. How heavy are Uh, currently 89. K. Let's just say 90. Yeah, about 85. I just say 90. 79. Just say 80. That's your biological age. 100. 100. So that we'll write it down cuz we've rounded everyone up. Nine. One. Four. Nines. I'm 75. I say 90. Yeah.
90. It's nearly half a ton. So we've added half a ton. Half a ton. We've added about half a ton of organic ballast to this car. So we're going to reverse up and we'll do a rolling race. Third gear roll on. Obviously no gears for me to the half mile. Okay. I hope this isn't embarrassing for me. It's going to be very embarrassing for you, Tommy. In fact, Tommy, why don't you come in here as well? We'll put you in the frunk. No, thank you. Three, two, one, go. Oh, that is embarrassing. Now, can the Aventador do anything about that?
That is really embarrassing. No, at least this sounds nice. Oh my god, how fast is that? Please stop now. I'm joking. If this was a video game, that's when you put like fatality. Sorry, we're too busy laughing then. Tommy, what did you say? Did you say anything? I said if this was a video game, you would put fatality on the screen right there. Fatality. Well, Rory thought he was going to be a fatality cuz I said that the brakes weren't working and he got a bit worried. But we're going to do a brake test now.
Speaking of which, so they better work this time. You ready, everyone? Come on then, Tommy. Wait to clear win there, Tommy. Well done, mate. No one enjoyed that in this car. That looked terrifying. I I thought you weren't going to stop him for one moment. He's so far back. I can't even see where he is. Let's do a rolling race cuz that was humiliating. So, it's one each. Let's go to the next challenge. Sorry guys. You're in it for the the duration. 2 1. I could feel every wheel struggling. Yeah, it was, wasn't it? He's not so far.
Oh, he's far behind. He's quite far behind. Oh my god, that's really fast. And it's backing out now at 160. Why would anything be this fast? Brakes too hot again. It doesn't like stopping, does it? this thing. There's only one more thing to do. Don't worry, we'll get this over and done with. It's the launch. Who feels sick? I'm just scared. Did Were you actually scared? I was a bit. It doesn't feel like I don't have loads of confidence in it. Do you? No, not really. Your brakes aren't on fire, so that's a good thing.
They're not on fire. Are they smoking at all? No. No, they're fine. Okay, we're just going to do a drag race now. This will be This will be interesting. I feel like fully loaded, it still might beat the Rivaldto. Like, no joke. The way you pull away from me is insane. Oh no. Sorry guys. I think we should do the next race fully loaded if you're happy to. M. I am happy to, but I have a car of people who probably are less happy to. Especially Rory. He's not he's not enjoying this much. Worst day of my life.
so unpleasant. It can go a lot quicker than that as well. But look how far behind he is. Did you have a good launch? No, it got stuck in first gear. Well, let's go again. I'm sure everyone in the car's excited at hearing that. Have you turned off your AC in the Tesla? I don't know why he's so happy. Oh, it's close for him. Oh, he's It is closer than I thought. it's not anymore, is it? This just keeps pulling. Any excuses this time, Tommy? No. No, I have none. I'm all out of excuses. It was nice to see a car full of men driving away from me.
At least I hadn't stolen something from you. So, hopefully not because uh if you stole something, that means I owned a Tesla. Ouch. Yeah. to that Elon. Since the SVJ lost, it's time to bring on the Lamborghini final boss. This Rowto has a 6.5 L naturally aspirated V12 paired with three electric motors, two on the front axle and one on the rear. Combined, this car makes 15 horsepower and 1,62 new m of torque. It drives all four wheels using a combination of the electric motors and an 8-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox with launch control. The car weighs 1,872 kilos and costs from around £455,000.
Right. So, we have Sean over there representing Lamborghini at the peak of Lamborghini in the Rowto. So, how do you think this is going to go? We're going to start off with a drag race against a Tesla which is full of men and you're on your own in the Ruelto. It's quick, but is it going to be quick enough? I think it's going to be very, very close between us. What do you reckon? No. No. I think he might win. You don't think so? I think it'll be close, but we might just win. I told him though that he would win just so I lied to get him to come along.
Okay. I don't know. I don't know. Oh, he's off. Come on, Tesla. Come on, Tesla. Oh, no. We're too fat and heavy. Wow, that's really fast. Sweet victory, Sean. Sweet victory. Well done. I was not expecting that then. But now I'm going to offload all my men. Right. Thanks for coming. Thank you very much. Remember to leave a positive rating. Right, Sean. Now that I've got all the men at the car, we are going to do a rolling race. Third gear roll on 50 mph. You're going to be in third manual mode. Obviously, I've got no gears.
We're going to race the two cones, which is the half mile mark. You ready? Yeah. Ready. This just takes off. Is he going to catch me? No, I'm just dropping him. This is like just dropping dropping dropping him. Oh, Sean. This absolutely hammered you, didn't it? Yeah, there was no chance there at all. I misshifted the bit towards the end as well. You miss shifted. Yeah. Allowed to bounce off the rev limiter. I don't think that made a difference really. Did it? Was I just too far gone? You was too far gone by that point.
Anyway, okay. What we're going to do now is a brake test run 100 mph. This does not break very well. So, you you'll enjoy this. Now, if you're thinking about buying a car and you want to check out the latest offers, I found a really good offer on a car which has a lot of performance. Want to see what the car is and know what the deal is through Carway? Click on the pop out banner. Scan the QR code on screen now. If not, stay here for the old brake test. See what we can do.
I wasn't expecting that at all. I was surprised you lost that. This car isn't great at breaking, but I think that side of the track is slightly slippier. Yeah, my reaction time wasn't the best as well when I seen the cone. Oh, that won't have helped. But it is what it is. It's the first time a Tesla has ever won a brake test, I think. All right, and Sean, what we're going to do now is first gear rolling. When the hands go down, let's race to the half mile on the two cones. Let's do it.
Three, two, one. Blime me. That just shows you real world meanly pickup performance. This Tesla is on another level. That Lamborghini is as if your car's broken, Sean. Yeah, it doesn't feel very responsive when I put my foot down at 10 mph. I thought like the hybrid system would be there to like punch it forwards, but it just can't compete with this. And it's three motors and,000 horsepower, lots of torque. Anyway, let's go to the thing that really matters. Okay, here we go. This is it. No excuses. It's no car full of men. Let's see what actually happens between this Tesla and that Roalto.
Oh, it's struggling for traction. Come on. He's ahead. I'm really getting back in, but I don't think I'm going to catch it. This is really struggling for grip. Whoa. A win. Nice win there, Sean. Nice win. I thought the Tesla was going to take that then to be fair with no one in. I thought I was as well, but it's really struggling for tracks on this. It's like spinning its wheels and it's like killing its power. I would like to ask for just one more go. Best out of three, please. Please, please. Okay, let's do it.
this time. off. That's my best launch yet. Well, Sean, I had you then that actually hooked up and it wasn't spinning its wheels. How about you? What was your launch like? Yeah, it was great to be honest. As I seen, you got a much better launch on that one and it's a lot more closely matched than I thought. This is it. This is the decider. Best two out of three. What will be will be. Let's do it. Oh, so close. Come on. Oh, this is so close. Whoa. Here we go. He's going to be across the line first.
That was close. That was so close. We couldn't have matched it better, but I was just that bit ahead and I stayed that bit ahead for the whole race. A Tesla without a car full of men is quicker in a drag race than a Lamborghini Ruelto. Now, let's compare all the cars quarter mile times. Well, despite beating the Huracan twice, the Smart's best time was actually the slowest overall. It took 11.4 seconds to complete the standing quarter mile. The Huracan Performant's best time was 11.2 seconds. The SVJ's was 11 seconds. When the Tesla was full of passengers, it took 10.5 seconds to do the standing quarter mile.
And when it was empty, it just beat the Revalto. But both cars crossed the line with a time of 10.4 seconds. Well, there you have it. I hope you enjoyed the video. Huge thanks to everyone who took part. If you want to see some other videos, click on the video windows. If you want to compare the car's quart mile times to everything else we've ever drag race, click on the car logo to check out the car drag race leaderboard. And let me know in the comments some other drag races you would like to see. We'll read through the comments and we'll see what we can do in terms of making them happen.
Thanks for watching and I'll see you next
