The creator notes MW19 is heavily discounted on Steam, counts hundreds of thousands of players, and signals a renewed public interest despite the game’s age.

MW19 is back in the spotlight with a five-dollar Steam sale driving a Steam-concurrent spike and fueling MW4 rumor chatter.

Summary

Jackfrags returns to Modern Warfare (2019) after a surprise Steam sale, noting MW19 at 90% off and roughly £5 in the UK. He highlights a fan-driven rebound with Steam concurrent players spiking to about 51,000, which he suggests could be an all-time peak on Steam. The video contrasts MW19’s resurgence with other Call of Duty entries on Steam, like Black Ops 7 and Warzone, which sit at lower counts, underscoring MW19’s ongoing hype. He ties the momentum to rumors of a reboot in MW4 later this year, imagining a return to grounded, realistic gunplay on a new engine. Infinity Ward’s tweet about double XP for MW2019 players this past weekend is cited as a clue that Activision is leaning into nostalgia and engagement. Jackfrags revisits classic MW19 features, like the gun range “trials,” and reflects on why the game remains fun for casual and competitive players alike. He muses on the broader FPS market, suggesting a shift toward casual experiences and less emphasis on wall-running or over-the-top power fantasy. The overall vibe is hopeful: MW19 is a strong bridge to the future of the series, while MW4 could capitalize on this renewed interest.

Key Takeaways

  • Infinity Ward publicly teased ongoing MW19 activity with a tweet about double XP, hinting at continued support and engagement.
  • Rumors of MW4’s reboot (end of year release, grounded gameplay, new engine, next-gen only) are part of the backdrop to MW19’s current popularity.
  • The video revisits MW19’s older features (gun-range trials) to argue for more classic, skill-based content in future COD titles.
  • The host suggests FPS trends may be moving toward casual play and broader accessibility, rather than pure competitive saturation, unless developers lean into differentiated game modes.

Have you guys seen what's happening with Modern Warfare 19 right now? It's kind of weird, but I think there's something more to this. I reckon there's something going on behind the scenes here. So, the game is currently 90% off on Steam, which in the UK it's about 5 quid. So, I'm guessing it's like $5 in the US, and the player count on Steam has absolutely skyrocketed. So, I just checked before I started recording this video. On Steam right now, there is currently 51,000 people playing Modern Warfare 19, which is mad. which I think for Steam that's actually the alltime concurrent peak player count because obviously most people played this on Battleet which it was on for years before they eventually put it on Steam. But whatever, I digress. So a lot of people are buying the game and trying it for the first time. But because there's like a load of players on it, the people that used to play the game are coming back and playing on Steam, but also playing on Battleet. So there's just like a huge spike in the player count right now. And out of interest, I checked the COD launcher on Steam. So, this is Black Ops 7 and also War Zone. That's only got 35,000 people playing right now. So, this game on Steam has more people playing it than the main COD game, which is the multiplayer and War Zone and a couple of other older COD games, which is crazy, by the way. That's not That's not a good thing for COD, but I think it shows how hyped Modern Warfare 19 still is. and it speaks to the rumors and the leaked information we've got about Modern Warfare 4, which is supposedly coming out at the end of this year. It's supposed to be a bit of a reboot apparently of COD, where they're going back to this more grounded, simple, realistic, gritty gameplay for COD on a new engine too and nextG only. And I did check too cuz I know you guys are going to ask this. BF6 right now has 58,000 people playing. So, it has more than MW19, but it is a free-to-play week at the moment for Battlefield. So, I'm not sure what that would look like if it wasn't free to play. Also, interestingly, Infinity Ward, who make the Modern Warfare series, tweeted, "NW 2019 players pulling up heavy XP all weekend on MW 2019. See you in the lobby." So, as you can see, they've enabled double XP as well. What is going on? So yeah, I thought we'd hop back on and play today and just remember why this game is kind of sick. But first, guys, do you remember this? Okay, I don't know why they haven't put this in more COD games because back in 2019, 2020, 2021, you know, when I was grinding MW19 and War Zone to warm up, I would play these trials. So these are like gun courses, and man, I had so much fun on these. So, you had to use a ticket and you could get the tickets by like leveling up and stuff, but it's basically a timed gun range. So, it drops you in and all you do is pick a gun off here. And the second that you walk through this, the timer starts and you can shoot these targets in any order. You just run around and, you know, try and figure it out for yourself. I used to do this for ages and ages and ages, man. But they've not had this in another COD game since. I don't know why cuz this was so much fun. So, I would love to see some of these shooting ranges and challenges come back in MW4. I think that'd be pretty cool. I think it had leaderboards, too. What should we play? Quick play. I mean, I've got everything selected there. Should I do ground war? Ground war is pretty sick in this game. I really enjoyed it. The store actually still works. No way. So, you can still buy things here. Yeah, they did keep it quite grounded in this game. I think a lot of people appreciated that. Yeah, there was some skins and stuff that maybe crossed the line for some people, but there was nothing crazy. I mean, looking at the operators here, like they never went wild with it, did they? There weren't any robots or animals or anything like that. It was all kind of I mean, that's a bit out there, but that's sick. I kind of like that. The samurai Nilson was definitely my favorite, though. This one here, Catch, is that the Rose Classic there? Ah, the Shadow Company. They changed that skin so many times cuz you just couldn't see it. It was so OP. M4 car 98 AAX AX50 Allied cruise missile launch. I'll go Amax. I'll go AAX. Okay. Right. Is this quarry? This was the beta map, wasn't it? Right. I think it was. It's basically conquest. Oh my god, look at this. Somebody in that. Oh no, I can just control this. Yeah, these things were like so OP. It feels good to be back on the dance. The guy here. Oh, deleted. It's a one hit kill. No way. I can't dice. Please can't get through there. Oh, let's go down here. You can't do first person in the vehicles on this game. I think that was a shame in there. And he's dead. King Slayer. Oh, he's going to be pissed about that. That's a friendly. Sorry, mate. Oh, I got bidate on top of me. Let's go, bro. Someone just hit me with a rocket and missile locking. Yo, where's my APS? Where is it? Nice. I'm stuck. Yeah, no engineers, unfortunately. Ruined. Ruined. Yeah, they can just kill you with small arms fire. I'm nearly gone, man. This would be a generational run to start the game off, though, let me tell you. I want to get killed by another vehicle, though. Rocket. Boom. That did nothing. I don't think the rockets are meant for infantry, are they? How many kills we got? Nine. We got nine kills. Oh, I saw a guy up there. Bye-bye. Yeah, this was a really fun spot to fight over in uh in War Zone. There's like zero splash damage. I feel like I'm just farming at this point, though, you know? Oh. Oh, I'm dead now. Surely. There it is. Okay, fair enough. Fair. Fair. Had my fun. 12. That's all right. Okay. Where should we spawn? Do we get their gimme? Oh, we do get their gimme in combat. Can I Oh, they got helicopters. Of course. Let's spawn here. This is a good idea. Oh my god, the AAX, bro. Oh, yes. Guys, I was so far behind that corner. What kind of tick rate is this? 109. Yeah. So, I wanted to talk about some of the reasons that they might have done this as well. No, we lost. Oh, boys. Is that Polish? I don't I don't know what language that is. It might have been Polish. GG. GG GG. That guy, Plastic Love, is level one and went 72 and N. How is that even possible? Surely if you got 72 kills in your first match, you'd be level 20 or something. I don't know. While it's searching for another match, why would they do this? At this point, the rumors are probably true. It is Infinity Ward's year. It's come around to them, right? Sledgehammer, Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and COD has definitely been on a downward trend. So, they need a bit of a comeback. And how they do that, maybe they revisit some of the magic that they had here where it was more authentic feeling. and there was a lot more love put into the animations and the audio and the gunplay just felt crisp and you couldn't do any crazy stuff like hopping on walls or wall running whatever. So perhaps they're just trying to keep the Modern Warfare brand in the gaming zeitgeist and remind people, hey, this is here. If you want to play it for five bucks or whatever, pick it up now. Come back. There's a load of people playing. If you already own it, it's a good time to do that. Look at this intro. Yes. So, this is Vdansk Riverside SAS Detachment Delta. It's just cool, isn't it? I mean, look at that. Those helicopters. Coffee man. So, I could actually do some sniping on this, couldn't I? That's a player controlled helicopter. I think they got the tag spring. Bravo. I'll try and get him. Can we snipe him? We're taking down. I mean, I can definitely just ruin him with a shot. I think I got the guy on the side. Helicopter's come down. So, what? They get an LAV. Uh-oh. Can someone play anti- vehicle, please? Yeah, I do kind of feel that the FPS industry outside of games like Counter Strike might end up going in this more casual direction. I mean, I don't know that for sure, but you see a lot more casual games succeeding now. Casual FPS games. I mean, BF6, yeah, the live service has been terrible. But it is a casual game. It's one of the only casual FPS games left really. It's more of a big sandbox, a big toy box that you can do whatever you want in. And perhaps, you know, people just aren't really into sweating so much every night when they come back from work or school or whatever. They just want to chill a bit. But they're muring ground war. You can definitely do that. You can just turn your brain off in this game mode. I mean, maybe 6v6 where you got like loads of SPMM and all that nonsense. It's going to be a bit more difficult to be casual, but perhaps the devs are going to start making more casual experiences. People don't have as much free time nowadays cuz of work, family, whatever. And there's so much competition in gaming. There's so many things vying for your attention. Not just gaming, but other stuff, too. about is they just want to de-stress a bit with a game rather than sweating so much. Maybe why games like Arc Raid is succeeding so much cuz you know you just don't have to sweat as much on that type of game and it becomes more of a social experience. Oh, there's a guy in the building. There he is. And I feel like if you have a game which is just solely focused on PvP, I'm not sure there's like a massive audience for that anymore. But again, outside of those games like Counter-Strike, but maybe I'm wrong about that. Trying to count this. Wow. What was that? Was a sniper. Oh, he's all the way back there. I thought the guy close killed me. I've got the RA tracing turned on, too. So, in multiplayer, this actually had RA tracing. I think it might actually look better than Black Ops 7, and I'm not even kidding. This game looks incredible. I don't know if I'm explaining myself that well because I'm trying to just like play and record at the same time focusing on my commentary a bit. But do you get what I'm saying? Maybe if you're not Counter Strike, there's no point in trying to be a competitive FPS game anymore. You should stop trying to be that and just be something else. Oh, damn it. I'm not saying that you should remove all of the depth from the game and just make it super duper casual. Who's sniping at me? But perhaps give people more stuff to do than just sweat and kill. I suppose I mean I'm as sweaty as the next person, right? I played Counter Strike since it came out in like 999, the first beta or whatever when it was on a a PC gamer demo disc. So, I'm all for competitive FPS games. I love them. I'll absolutely sweat my face up if I have to. But perhaps the mass audience isn't really logging in for that anymore, I guess, is what I'm trying to say. Isn't there going to be a nuke? Right. There's a nuke, isn't there? If you lose all the points, you get nuked. They did actually add that to Battlefield as well, but you don't see it that often in Conquest. Put my uh big rounds in. What was it called again? The big rounds where they do more damage. I can't remember what they're called. The field upgrade. More damage. Reloading. Your bullets turn yellow. There he is. Chopper gun. Uh-oh. Chopper gunner. Get down. Oh no, that guy's going to ruin everyone. There's a cheeky mine there. Look at that. I think DMZ might be quite popular as Oh, I know there's been rumors about that coming back, too. If they actually refine that and build on it and add more depth to it and more of a meta system, I think there's a really big chance for them there to to grow that game mode. Stopping power. That's what they called. They're not called big rounds. They're called stopping power. I mean, that skin is probably the most outrageous they built in the game. If they do a DMZ again, though, I think they've got to make the AI way more interesting to fight and improve the missions a bit. Oh, the tactical moves come in. You have to capture an objective now. All the round ends and I can try and capture C here. Uhoh. That That was the vehicle. Oh my. What the FPS? That what? That was weird. Okay, we lost. What the Why is the frame rate so bad on that? What is going on there? That was him killing me as well. There's no hood either. How weird. What's one v one me, bro? You think anyone's playing this? I don't think I've ever played this game mode. I mean, it's probably a one v one, isn't it? I'm so stupid. Oh, it's Rust, baby. Look at this. Isn't that beautiful? This map is a classic. Okay, do the M4. Ooh, it's team deathmatch, I think. Is it just first to like 50 like No, sure. Oh, I got a UAV. Why have I got a UAV death match? We've got enemy inbound. Lock and load. Oh, Gojo. Okay, you got some skills. You got some skills, Gojo. Where's he going to spawn? Does he have ghost? Oh, behind me. I'm looking Gojo. I mean, if I just control this high ground here. He's down here. He knows I'm up here, though. Come on, Gojo. Lock in. I want you to take me out now. He's down here. Gojo. Okay, I'm going to come down. What's the point of UAV there? UAV entering the Can you get that scan anyway? He's over here now. That's old, isn't it? It's an old ping. Where'd you go, Gojo? Come on, Gojo. Oh, he's on comms. He's left the game. Be advised, UAV is being Oh, go. Good game, my friend. Good game. Yeah, maybe I'm sweating a bit too much there. Right, that's going to do it, I think, for today's video. I might do some more videos on this game. You know, it's so fun coming back and playing MW. Maybe I can get Tommo World to play some gunfight with me. But that' be interesting, wouldn't it? Anyways guys, thank you for watching. Drop me a like. Let me know what you think about MW19. And also MW4 this year, big reboot. Can COD actually come back? And what I was talking about with the more casual thing, do you agree with me on that? Do you think the FPS industry is kind of going more in that direction? If you're not Counter Strike, or am I wrong? What do people want? Let me know. Drop me a like, drop me a comment, subscribe if you're new. I'll see you next time. Bye-bye.
