Hosts introduce themselves and set the stage for the Laracon India story.

Laracon India has grown into a massive Laravel gathering with 1,300+ attendees, dance parties, and a thriving, worldwide community.

Summary

Ruchit Patel, one of the Laracon India organizers, explains how the event started in 2023 with 120–300 attendees and quickly built momentum to become a flagship Laravel conference. He highlights the energetic atmosphere, the dance parties, and the “electric” energy that attendees bring, which draws visitors from around the world. Patel recounts the challenges of securing sponsors and coordinating travel for people who may cross hundreds of miles, emphasizing the long-running volunteer efforts that keep the event alive. The interview underscores that the conference now includes a broader tech footprint—front-end folks, AWS practitioners, and Laravel Cloud contributors—demonstrating how the Laravel ecosystem has expanded beyond PHP to include related technologies. He notes that monthly meetups across India (around 20–22 per month) helped grow a resilient, nationwide community that could sustain a larger conference. The speaker also points out the willingness of international attendees to return year after year, describing Laracon India as perhaps the largest Laravel gathering globally. If you’re curious about what makes the event special, Patel invites viewers to check out the Laracon India videos to witness the energy firsthand. The chat closes with an encouragement to visit the official LakCon India website for more details on talks, speakers, and festivities.

I am here in Amsterdam with the one of the co-organizers of Laracon India. What's up? Good to see you. All right, if you don't mind give a little introduction and tell the people. So myself, Richard Patel. I'm one of the co-organizer of Lacon India from last four years when we have started in the 202023 the first Laracon India happened and it was amazing at that time we have the 1200300 attendees and the terror 12 was one of the speaker at that time and everyone was like have a really amazing fun whoever attended like the different like uh speakers from the different countries have enjoyed really well the special foods and the surprises and the dance party you can see the video on the YouTube as well how we are very much energetic the Laravel Indian community and regarding myself as like I'm with the Laravel like from 2013 I started my career and from there I the part of the Laravel community at the city level and we have started the first Laravel city level in Ahmedavad Nubs in 2017 at the end and we took initiative that let's bring the Lakon to the India and we shall have like a really good uh convinced till 12 and finally we have the Larakon India in 2023. So that's the overall journey and the beauty of the Laravel community in India is that every month we have around 20 22 meetups in the different city is one of the we can say the largest community of the Laravel in India and when they are got a announcement of the Larok on India everyone is ready let's go there yeah apart from the Indian community the surprise and amazing part is that most of the people whoever attend the Indian Lacon from the different countries They are also excited like they always want to come like a freak marer chess James Taylor itself. So once you attend you are very much addicted with the Laron India. I love that and it's I'm assuming it's probably the biggest conference of Laravel ever like every year is bigger than any other like here in Amsterdam or here in the US or anywhere. So it's it's massive. Um, and if if you know the people watching, if you've not seen the Laracon India videos, you have to go watch those cuz they they go all out. They have dance parties. They you have to be prepared with the very electrifying energy. Then you can enjoy the Laron India. Yes. You must be very energetic. Without that, nobody can turn the two days. Yes. Uh, so um, so as an organizer, like what's some of the hard things to actually organizing a conference? Do you do you have struggles every single year or is it so basically at the beginning like at the first event in the 2023 like we struggle like to uh for the sponsors to bring the sponsors because that was the first event. So even the sponsors have like validation that if we are going to be sponsors and what in return we can get it even the different uh like the community members from the different part of the India. India is a very big country right? So they have to travel like around uh 500 miles or more than 500 miles. So they have to be accommodate everything. So they are also very much like the first lavacon and they are like have a trouble like uh should attend or not right because the first time it happened. So we started at least uh 4 months ago me Vishal Abbas and Mitul have started and we started every week uh call with the different volunteers of the different cities. So by this way we convince everyone and they are very excited and they join it and what we learned from the first event that we are very much overthinking about that. Yeah. So we stop overthinking about that because we believe in that the community is always supportive and they all always ready. The important thing is like how you convey the perfect message in a way that this conference happen you have to be like what are the speakers are going to be happen what are the talks it's not only the Laravel nowadays the people from the front end part like the react VueJS is the part of the community as well right the infrastructure we can say the AWS people we are as a Laravel cloud right they are using behind the scene of the AWS terapform and all those things so nowadays more people from the other communities also do part of that so that's the beauty of the which I feel that and that we have uh break our uh we can say the uh uh I say that our what I say I forgot the the word of that the comfort zone I can say that we break our comfort zone that's it I love it and um and right before we speaking of like kind of to back up talking about how wild is before we jumped on the show Ko was around here and he told us um he ate a fire Yeah, he had a fire dragon live on stage. You're going to have to explain to the audience what a fire dragon is. So fire dragon is like one of the we can say the name is a fire pan is in Ahmedabad is one of the most famous like after dinner usually people go for the fire pan is kind of the mouth freshener but you feel the dragon after eating that it's made of the leaves the clo and the fire and you just to eat directly if you feel a dragon but no it's inside it's a cool manta but yeah you must try once you like if you are first time in India and especially in Ahabad the Gujarat then must try the firepower. You'll love it. That's awesome. Yeah. Um all right. So I don't have any more questions. Did I miss anything you want to you want to discuss about India? If you miss anything go to the Lakon India website, show the video. You will get it. The how the electrifying the community we have it. I love it. I love it. Oh my gosh. Yeah. This is great. Yeah.
