The team specializes in fixing problematic codebases, especially where tests or code quality are lacking, and they tailor engagements to grow client teams with short-term developers. We hear about Jump 24’s 11-year journey, their size (a steady 10-person team), and their stance on AI as an enabler that enhances human review rather than replacing it. Dan highlights the appetite for faster, more personal software solutions driven by AI, hinting at a future where individuals and teams can ship smaller, customized tools quickly. The chat also touches on the fun side of the company, including a shared love of golf and a reference to Jump 24’s UK presence at conferences. So, with me now is the man, the myth, the legend, the greatest golfer in this the city of London, the county of London. I don't know. I'm not sure where he actually lives. Uh, but Dan Nunes from Jump 24. So, I'm going to hand you the mic. You just kind of give a quick introduction who you are and what you do. Uh, hi. I'm uh Dan from Jump 24 as Eric said. Uh, I'm one of the co-founders. Uh we're a software development agency uh based in Birmingham. Uh we're an official Laravel partner uh and have been for a number of years and we're just huge fans of Laravel in general.
So yeah. Um great to see you all. That's awesome. That's awesome. Yeah. So you've uh so I met you originally at Laraveville. Lar Yeah, Larville Live UK. Uh it's always weird with the words Laravel Live and then Laracon. Um but yeah, so Laravel Live UK and so um you know flew into London, got to meet you there. It was amazing. Um you were a sponsor there. Um and I think you may have given No, no, I don't think you gave a talk that year. Um but yeah, so anyway, great great man, great company and awesome people.
Um so tell us about uh Jump 24 like what what do y'all do? What do you specialize in and all that things? Yeah. Um, so obviously we're a laral agency. Um, so we do a lot of uh green field builds um and uh a lot of rescue projects. So you know you might have a development team already that you're not getting on well with or you might have had a a project built offshore uh and it's got problems. So we can come in, our team can come in and help fix those problems and kind of get you in a good place.
Um and then we do a lot of helping teams grow. So you might have a spike in work that you need and you don't need to hire a full-time team. uh we can come in and basically uh you know put one or two developers in your team uh and kind of help you grow for a month or two and then scale down. Oh, nice. Nice. So, so how about the um um you mentioned like you come in and you can like fix bad products or bad code. How prevalent is that in or how often does that come up?
Is it more than as an outsider who's not in the agency context, does that happen a lot? Uh yeah, a a lot more than you think. Um it's it's a it is a bad thing. Like we do get a lot of people that have spent quite a lot of money uh and they you know they come uh with a product that doesn't work. Um you know the first thing we always look for does it have tests a lot of the time. There's no tests. There's none of this like code quality things going on static analysis stuff like that.
Um so yeah it's quite a lot. Sorry. Yeah. There there's quite a lot that happens. Yeah. Sorry that was that was Turn Turn yours down. That was super loud. Uh, you're good. Um, yeah. So, so how long have y'all been in a agency? Like, how many years have y'all been in in business? Uh, so, uh, this is our 11th year now we've been going. Um, we're we're a team of 10. So, we have we've grown and we've kind of shrunk. 10's a nice happy number for us. So, yeah. So, 11 years in total. Wow. Yeah, that's awesome.
Um, so, uh, switch gears a little bit. What? Um, when when are we going to play golf together? Um, good question. Uh, but I I would love to do it in the US, but I'm not going to go to Laracon US this year. Um, I mean, maybe maybe next year. Maybe next year. Let me get a bit better first and then then I can play. No, no, no, no. Uh and uh and and then uh we we say that Jess because we we're we chat about golf way more than we probably should be. Um you know we're supposed to be working sometimes and we like to talk golf.
Uh but uh so uh what uh I guess for the future thinking about the next you know 3 5 years how are you seeing both like the program programming community the agency context like how are you seeing things progress in the age of AI and just the way things it seems like it's changing so quick right now. Um yeah so obviously AI's got a huge impact uh on everything. I mean your team is going to be able to do a lot more work with a smaller amount of people. Um so that I mean that's obviously going to be a good thing for some agencies but obviously uh for us AI is more of an enhancement.
So you still need the people there to be able to kind of guide that AI to check the work the quality and things like that which is something that you know we're really really thing on doing. Um but I feel like you're going to see a lot more kind of personal projects. people are going to come come to you with like I I need this bit of software for my job. Uh previously it would have cost a lot of money for a development team to do but now with AI we can get it done a lot quicker.
So I think there's going to be a lot more uh personal software for people that is going to be kind of really um for their needs. That's that's kind of thing you're going to see a lot of. Um and just a lot more things coming out the door. Like I've noticed since we've been using AI uh for things that I've managed to ship a number of small projects that I've wanted for a while uh quite quickly. So yeah, that's that's I think what's going to happen. More shipping. I love that. I love that. Um and well, I guess you're not you're not at the conference.
I was going to say at the Jump 24 booth, they have a whole u going back to golf, they have a whole little putter set up, like a simulator. It's it's really sweet. Um so, you know, well, thank you for coming out. And in closing, I want you to just tell people how to find you and jump 24 and anything you want to say to close it out. Okay. Yeah. Uh well, if you're if you're at the event and you're watching this, we're in a booth uh in the corner. Come over and say hello. Uh if you're not, uh we're on Twitter, so jump4.
Uh you can follow me on Twitter as well. Uh LinkedIn, and every Friday I do like um top 10 Laravel posts of the week. So uh go and check them out because there's usually some really good uh good things to catch up on during the week. Sweet, sweet, man. I appreciate you. Yes. Um, and he he mentioned his top top 10 of the week that it's really cool. He makes a little video and like picks out the top 10 things that he's found. Everything from like tutorials or um you know news items um or kind of anything within the community.
