Summary
Shane Hummus argues that the path to earnings with AI isn’t a moonshot startup. He highlights five boring, unscalable, one-person businesses you can launch using Claude AI to automate the heavy lifting. First, become the lead plumber for local businesses by fixing their follow-up and lead-qualification with Claude-driven AI sequences. Next, act as a bouncer-beater by rewriting resumes and LinkedIn profiles for targeted industries, using Claude to tailor bullet points and ATS keywords. Then, write sales emails and pages that convert—Claude drafts the sequences while you optimize hooks and measure results. The grant-proposal service follows, drafting master templates and tailoring to funders’ rubrics with Claude’s structured writing. Finally, build a hybrid personal brand via a YouTube channel, using Claude for content ideas, scripts, and process automation, with Shane offering live training to help attendees niche down, monetize, and land clients. Across these ideas, the core theme is leveraging AI to handle repetitive, scalable work while you focus on niche positioning and client relationships. Shane also teases a live training with free Claude-enabled tools and niche validation to accelerate start-up momentum. Expect actionable steps, real-world pricing ranges, and concrete examples like a $23k/mo recurring lead-follow-up service and grant-writing retainers around $2,500/month.

Stop trying to build the next billion-dollar app. Seriously, please stop. The dumbest advice on the internet right now is that you need some massive, scalable, worldchanging startup to make money with AI. And that advice is keeping you broke. Today, I'm going to be showing you five boring but profitable oneperson businesses that you can start using cloud AI, and they work precisely because they don't scale. Now, here's what almost nobody understands, right? Anything that scales easily, the big companies are going to dominate, right? You are not going to outscale Amazon. But a boring, unscalable oneperson service, well, the big dogs can't be bothered to even look at it.
And that's not a weakness. That's an opening for you. Because the harder something is to scale, the more accessible it is to a normal person starting from zero. And the more boring something is, the less other people want to do it, therefore the less competition. And I would know because I spent years watching beginners with no audience. and no money make their first $1,000 doing exactly this inside of my community. So, let's kill the fantasy and do something that actually works. If you appreciate me making videos like this and you want to see more of them in the future, then go ahead and gently tap that like button and let's dive into it right now.
Okay, so before we jump into this head first, I just want to talk real quick about why these specific businesses. So, Alexi has a stat that I love. He says that roughly 78% of businesses in the US are service businesses. Because services are the easiest thing on earth to start and sell. You trade your time for money. You risk basically zero and your starting point is also zero. Now, here's the part that's going to flip your brain because a service is hard to scale. And most people hear that and they run away screaming. Don't because anything that scales easily the big companies are going to crush you with.
Right? That's what I said before. You are not beating Amazon. It's something that scales. So, the fact that it doesn't scale is the entire reason it's acceptable to you. And the fact that it's boring means that there's going to be way less competition. So pick one of these because like Hormosi says, a focused fool will out earn a distracted genius every single time. And stop waiting until you feel ready. Right? Horoszi nailed this one too. Don't build confidence, build evidence. The confidence shows up after you do the thing, not before. Okay, so the first business, I'm going to call it the lead plumber.
And this is basically being the AI person for boring local businesses. We're talking dentists, law firms, realtors, HVAC companies, etc., etc. And here is the dirty little secret. Local businesses are losing money every single day because nobody follows up with their leads fast enough. Somebody fills out a form at 9:00 p.m. and then they get a call back 3 days later, if ever, and by then, they've already solved the problem. That is money being lit on fire. So, you can set up a simple AI assistant that instantly replies to and follows up with every single lead so that nothing slips through the cracks.
So, think of yourself as a plumber here, right? A business's leads are water. Their website, their YouTube channel, their social media, whatever is getting the actual leads is the faucet. And a booked appointment is the bucket. Right now, the pipe between the two is leaking. Leads or water comes in, nobody calls back, and money just drips onto the floor. But you can fix this pipe or just install a new one so that not a single drop is wasted. And this is a textbook starving crowd which beats everything else because these businesses are already paying for leads and watching them rot.
You are not creating demand. You're walking up to people who are desperate and handing them the fix. So a good example of this is a guy online who shared his exact numbers. He's got 14 clients paying him between $800 to $3500 a month for AI automation that mostly runs on autopilot. That's about $23,000 a month in recurring revenue. And this isn't some kind of business genius. This guy just started in business and he's already crushing it. And the pricing model is pretty simple, right? Charge a onetime setup fee plus a small monthly retainer to keep it running.
And just five clients at 2,000 a month is going to be $10,000 a month all from your laptop. And Claude is literally the engine here, right? It writes the follow-up sequence. It writes the answers to most of their question. It writes the booking scripts. You're just wiring it into their system or honestly to start just in a shared inbox where Claude drafts every single reply. So, this is easily made with something like Claude Code. So, here's how to start. Pick one type of local business. Okay? So, open Google Maps and find 10 of them with slow or no follow-up.
For instance, you could call them and see how long it takes to hear back. Then, offer to set up an instant reply and follow-up system for a low onetime fee. Use Claude to write every message and build the simple SOP. Then, add a small monthly retainer to keep it running. Businesses are going to know that they're hemorrhaging money, and it's not going to be that hard of a sell for you to create this for them. And if they don't like what you created, then they'll just stop paying you. It's that simple. So, it's not that much risk on their side.
Hey, quick break. I'm going to be doing a live training this week on how to start a YouTube channel step by step for beginners. This is going to be for people who want to start a channel, but they don't know what niche to pick, what videos to make, or how to actually get started the right way. And it's a completely free training, no strings attached. In fact, I'm giving away even more bonuses at the training. So, just as an example, I'm going to be giving away my niche validator. Um, this is going to be available both for Chat GBT as well as Claude, which is a super valuable piece of software where you can finally figure out what the best niche for you is.
So, do not miss out on this training. Make sure you sign up for it down in the description and the pin comment below because you only get it if you join the training. So, if you don't join now, you might miss it. But that being said, in the workshop, you'll get to meet me and you'll get to ask me questions directly. So, I look forward to seeing you in there. So, click the link in the description and the pin comment below, put it in your calendar, and if for whatever reason you missed out on it or you weren't able to attend, make sure you still click that link because we might be having workshops in the future as well, and you'll be the first to know about it.
So, yeah, hope to see you there. And now, back to your regularly scheduled content. All right, the next one I like to call the bouncer beater, and this is where you rewrite résumés and LinkedIn profiles so that people actually get interviews. And let me tell you, everyone job hunting is anxious, frustrated, and will happily pay you to stop getting ignored. And here's what most people don't realize, right? Almost every online job application gets screened by a piece of software, which is typically an ATS or an applicant tracking system. This is before a human being ever sees it.
It's basically a bouncer with a checklist. If your resume doesn't match the list, you never get past the velvet rope. And you're the person who knows exactly what's on the bouncer's list, and you dress your client to walk right in. So, this is selling straight into pain. And the bigger the pain, the more you can charge. And few pains are sharper than I've applied to a 100 jobs and heard absolutely nothing. And the pro move here is to of course niche down, right? Don't write résumés. Write resumes for nurses or software engineers or data analysts.
Right? One type of person. This is exactly what one of my community members, Davis, did when he started helping people get into management consulting jobs. He started by just helping them optimize their resume and their LinkedIn profiles and then eventually turned it into a full coaching business that helps them land their jobs. Now, even in lower level jobs, top tier résumés go for $200 to $300 each. And plenty of résumé writers charge over a hundred to even over $1,000 per ré. And a lot of them pull $3 to $10,000 a month, especially when they bundle it with a LinkedIn profile rewrite.
And Claude makes this almost unfair. You can paste in the exact job posting and Claude can tailor the bullet points on the resume to it. It can keyword match it for the ATS and it can spit out variations in minutes. All you got to do is bring the strategy and the final polish. So, the way to start here is to pick one industry that you actually understand. Then you offer a resume plus LinkedIn refresh at a low intro price to stack up reviews fast. And then you use Claude to rewrite every resume against the specific job posting the client is targeting.
Then raise your price every few clients as your testimonials pile up. Now, by the way, if you're confused about what niche to pick, I actually have a live training that I'm doing this week and you can click the link in the description in the pin comment below to attend that where we will focus on picking your niche. And by the way, again, if you're confused about picking your niche or you're confused about how to actually get clients in a way that's much easier, where you're actually just getting inbound leads, clients that come to you, one of the best ways to do that is YouTube and creating what I call a hybrid personal brand.
And that's what this live training is going to be all about. So, click the link in the description and the pin comment below to attend that. All right. So, the next one is you're going to write emails and sales pages that make businesses money. And a great sales email is basically a salesman that works 24/7 and never asks for a raise. Think about it. You write one good email sequence and it sells for that business at 2 in the morning on Christmas day while the owner is on a beach somewhere. They pay you a one-time fee and they get a salesman that never clocks out.
And the whole game here is articulating the customer's pain better than they can say it themselves. Because when you name a prospect's pain accurately, they almost always buy. Now, on the number side, a single email can go for $100 even as a beginner. And you can easily write 30 a month and that's $3,000. Sales pages run for $2,000 to over $10,000 per project. I would know I actually paid somebody well over $10,000 to write my VSSL and make my landing page. And there's a copyriter out there that now charges over $1,500 per email after she proved that her emails tripled a client's sales.
And after you get pretty good at this, you can actually start charging on revenue percentage instead of charging for one-off jobs. Now, Claude can draft the entire sequence plus 10 subjectline options in one shot. and you can sharpen your hooks and dial in a brand's voice, which means you can carry triple the clients of a normal copywriter. Now, one of the biggest secrets here is you need to get as much information and as much context about the client's prospects as possible. So, data mining is really valuable to do here. So, some really good places you could data mine, of course, are going to be sales calls, onboarding calls, any sort of communication that they have with their clients, whether it's an email, coaching calls, DMs, comments on their socials, etc., etc.
And that is what's going to allow you to make really really good copy. And of course, you can just dump all of that into Claude. So the way to start here is pick one industry, offer to write a five email welcome sequence for a low flat fee, use Claude for the first draft, then you sharpen every hook, track the opening click rates, show the client the results, and then raise your rates from there. An even easier way to start with this one is to just do the first few clients for free. If you have family members or friends who actually own a business or they know somebody who owns a business, you can write some emails for them for free and then you can get a testimonial from them and that's going to make it a lot easier for you to get your own clients.
All right, so the next one is one that was actually requested on the channel and this is one of the most boring businesses on the entire list, but it's also one of the most lucrative and that is writing grant proposals. These are the documents that unlock free money for nonprofits and small organizations. So there are giant vaults of free money sitting behind lock doors. We're talking government grants, foundation grants, and the application is the combination to the lock. And most nonprofits absolutely fumble that combination. They walk away from millions of dollars every single year. But you're going to be the locksmith who knows the click of every single Tumblr.
An organization might literally shut their doors without funding, which is exactly why you can charge a premium price for this. So flat fees for a single grant proposal typically run $2 to $10,000. And the model the grant writing coaches teach is wild. just eight clients on a $2,500 a month retainer is a $250,000 a year business. And I've actually worked with clients who have done grant writing. I even did some grant writing myself when I was younger when I worked for a 501c3 nonprofit. And believe me, there is a lot of money in this. And of course, Claude is perfect for this because its structured writing is its wheelhouse.
It builds one master proposal template, matches it to each funer's exact requirements, and drafts the narrative. You just verify the facts and the compliance. And I'll tell you one thing right now. Most people who are in the grant writing industry are on the older side and they do not know how to use AI. So if you figure out how to use AI with grant writing, you are going to have a massive advantage. So here's how to start. Find local nonprofits, animal shelters, youth programs, community orgs. Offer to write one grant for a low first fee or a small base rate or even free and use Claude to structure it precisely to the funders scoring rubric.
Then get a testimonial from them and then move your best clients onto monthly retainers. They will be happy to do that once they see that you're really good at using AI. All right, so the last one is the hybrid personal brand. And this is where you basically package what you already know. If you're an expert, you're somebody who's had problems in your life that you've been able to overcome, or you're somebody who's been in a boring career for a long period of time, or you're somebody who's wanting to start a business that's either an AI business or it's an AI assisted business, which by the way, I recommend integrating AI into literally any business that you're doing.
But this is where you literally just start a YouTube channel because every single one of these businesses work if you have views. But without traffic, it's pretty hard to get them to work. And YouTube is without a doubt the absolute best place on the internet to get views. And of course, you can use Claude to help you make really good content on YouTube and help you with literally every single step of the YouTube process. And I'm actually going to be giving away a bunch of free tools that we created with Claude with Claude skills attached in the live training that we're doing this week.
So click the link in the description and the pin comment below. Some of the tools we'll be talking about are finding your niche, monetizing your niche, then we're going to go over how to find video ideas, then we're going to go over how to get started step by step on YouTube, and then at the end, I'll answer literally any question that you have. So, definitely do not miss out on the live training. You're going to love it, and I look forward to seeing you there. With that being said, I have helped a bunch of people start boring businesses using YouTube as the personal brand engine to get clients, customers, and generate revenue.
For instance, I talked about Davis earlier, the guy who basically helped people get into management consulting jobs. We helped Davis fully automate his YouTube channel, then start another YouTube channel because he had other businesses, and we helped him scale his business to over six figures a month. And I know that 99% of people watching this are just going to enjoy my free content, you're going to enjoy my live trainings, and you're never going to work directly with us, and that's totally fine. But if you want to fasttrack the process, if you want one on-one coaching and consulting where we literally hold your hand the entire way and get you to the promised land as fast as possible, or you want us to literally just do it for you, then go ahead and book a call by clicking the link in the description in the pin comment below.
On this call, we'll figure out where you are right now, where you want to be. We'll make a plan to get there, and we'll see if we're a good fit to work together or not. Only book the call if you're very serious about growing and making money on YouTube. The types of people we typically work with are, of course, business owners, YouTubers who are getting a lot of views, but they're struggling with monetization, YouTubers who are crushing it, but they want to crush it even harder, or people who want to treat YouTube like a business.
And usually these people are professionals, or they're people who are just very serious and they don't want to waste 3 years figuring it out on their own. So, if that sounds like you, go ahead and book a call. But also, check out this video right here where I interview Davis on exactly how he helped him grow his business.
