Summary
William from Unbox Therapy digs into the BOOX Note Air 5, a 10.3-inch e-ink tablet pitched for readers and producers alike. The device ships with 6GB of RAM, 64GB storage, and built‑in Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth, plus a fingerprint‑enabled power button for quick unlock. Ham highlights the metal build, the back pin connectors for accessories, and a stylus with replaceable tips stored in a nub on top. Battery and connectivity options get a nod with the 5G variant that accommodates a SIM for permanent connectivity. The Note Air 5 runs Android 15, so you still have access to the Play Store and familiar tablet gestures, while enjoying the eye-friendly e-ink display and a front light that can be tuned for warm or cool tones. Accessories like a wax‑canvas style magnetic case and a keyboard dock transform it from a pure e‑reader into a portable productivity setup, including a pull‑out stand, multiple angle options, and a keyboard with surprisingly usable key travel. In practice, you can browse with Neo Browser, take notes, read books, and even track reading progress, all while avoiding the harsh backlight typical of LCD tablets. Ham closes with reflections on how e‑ink devices push you toward reading and note‑taking rather than mindless scrolling, imagining a future where humanity debates the role of AI, and, possibly, where devices like this sit in that landscape.

Farewell off. Oh, help him you sweet heavens. Ham, when we're like, if we defeat the AI, this is what we turn it into. Oh man. So, today we're checking out the latest from books. This is in their Note series and it is called the Note Air 5. It is a 10.3 in e- in tablet. The black and white resolution 2480 by 1860. It's got six gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of storage. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are built in. This is essentially your note takingaking productivity type of device with a display that's obviously easier on your eyes that you can use for long hours.
Now, I remember my first exposure to the book's brand and the idea of color e in all because obviously these things when you talk about e-readers, you imagine a completely black and white display. Well, not the case anymore. So, the device is solid metallic. It's cool to the touch. We can see the pin set up on the back for some of the accessories. And you also get an idea of the aspect ratio. So, meant to be held in this portrait, but like with a spot for your thumb to sit that isn't on the screen. We can also see some speaker grills, volume buttons, power button.
I mean, and otherwise, it basically feels like a tablet, but it does feel solid. So, also in this package, we're going to see our pen or stylus. And I know they sent some different tips as well. Marker tips. Now you can see this one has this little cap to protect the tip. You don't poke yourself. We don't always have a clip if you want to clip it on a shirt. Crazy. This goes like Oh, yeah. Look at this. We have nub storage in the top. How do we lock it in? There we go. We lock it in.
Now, this guy is going to sit where? Oh, sit there. Also in this section of the box, we have our USB cable. USBC to a a SIM tool. We're going to have 5G on this one. You're going to throw your SIM card in this guy and you're going to have permanent connectivity, which is pretty cool. I'm also noticing the power switch most likely doubles as a fingerprint scanner for unlocking it, which is a nice touch. Okay, so first up as far as accessories go, we have this cover. Magnetic versatile stand case. Oh, interesting. So, this has a textured feel to it.
almost like a waxed canvas type of feel. That's interesting. The clasp is completely removable. And when we insert this way, ooh, that's kind of a good look. Right. Like that. I presume this is if we want to carry our pen. So, you know what I mean? The cover is going to have a number of ways that you can prop your device up. This Okay. So I presume this will be our option one which is kind of nice. Look at that flat. We can use it totally open. Or is this this is drawing this angle right here.
That's what you're going to want. You hear it has like almost like a textured sound. This is going to be your minimal setup. Extremely thin, extremely light. You still have a cutout for charging it while it remains in the case. But if you want the keyboard input for even more potential productivity, you could own both. They sort of match. It gets obviously a little bit bigger. Same removable magnetic clasp and it has the exact same wax canvas type of feel. I'm not saying that's what it's made of. I'm just saying it feels like that. And then this one is going to have your interaction with the pins.
Sits right in there like that. And we now have a laptop like input. So, we're using it like that or we are carrying like that. I guess that's the You can't fold it. Oh, you can fold it all the way around. Do that, too. Now, this is obviously going to make textbased input a lot more efficient. A surprising amount of key travel for such a shallow overall form factor. Okay, so here we are in the interface and look at that little touch of color you're getting even though it's e in. You can see the availability of apps here.
Different tools. What can we see here? Voice recorder, calculator. What's Nava Ball? Oh, I see. Okay, cool. We can customize this. So, we can leave this and it will be a persistent little navigation option. When I click it, you can see I can get quick access to a variety of different settings. I like that. Yeah, look at this. I can put it wherever I want. Obviously, we can take notes. Obviously, we've got a library in order to store our books. This thing has a browser on it. It's called Neo Browser. Just works. Speakers. So, we got the latest from Red.
usable. You can use it. These things represent value for money. The refresh has its limitations. You know that it's but in a pinch you want to use it for consumption. Totally fine. And then you get the benefits of e- in when you're using for productivity, note takingaking, and reading late at night without having this like very bright backlight. So, there's some settings here actually for the what they call the front light. Bright, soft, or custom or off. But they call it a front light, not a back light. We got our bright setting. And as the lights go down, you're going to see this is too bright, right?
So, like you don't want this late at night. You want the full relaxation experience. Maybe you want to take your lighting and make it a little bit warmer. Okay, no problem. Can be done. And maybe you want to take your backlight and like bring it down just like your phone. Like totally doable. So, then if you're in direct sunlight or in front of a window, you turn it off completely. So, the device has been set up now and we've got some books downloaded. It's currently set up for a PIN, but it does have a fingerprint unlock, which is obviously more convenient.
So, pretty typical registration. Just lift and tap. Obviously, a primary use for this device is to read books, read documents, and deal with text, hence the name books. We have some books that are downloaded now. And here you get a sense for what the reading looks like. And it looks like there's a little tab over here. See that? Then I can just copy that section. So, we've now got the ability to turn pages using the volume. So, just keep your hand kind of on the side here. I like that. Now, I think the key distinction here between this thing and some other productivity devices is the fact that this is like a full-on Android tablet in its capabilities.
But for productivity, it can be essential to have access to the Play Store because maybe there's some productivity app that you must have on here just like any other tablet. So you don't have to give that up just because you're choosing e- in for the other attributes associated with it. So this is actually running Android 15 and I presume it's going to get continue to get updates as well just like any other Android device. Oh wow, check this out. So I will boost the brightness for a comic like that just to enhance, you know. Did you ever actually collect comics?
I had one collectible which was a Batman comic which was whichever copy it was where Bane showed up and broke the back of Batman floor plan. What you got? Put a shelf in this room here. I can add color. Let's see. Some color right now. Cool. Oh yeah. Many options. Blank grid and some funnel pyramid musical score. Useful. If you've used any kind of Android tablet, it's interfacing with this is going to be a familiar thing because you're going to pull down from here and get all your quick access. We're going to be able to take screenshots, initiate our assistant that we can talk to.
Again, it's Android, so you're very aware that you're inside of Android. And even the same gestures like swiping up from the bottom. Look at this. We can look how much reading we're doing, our reading statistics. This is like the opposite of screen time. When you look at screen time, it is depressing and you're like, "Oh my god, I was swiping some crap." But over here, it's like, "Oh yeah, I've been reading." On this screen, you want to see the big numbers. Like, I've been reading. Yeah. Yeah. I've been reading. Oh, what have you been doing?
I've been reading. It is a funny distinction when you're on an e- in display how all of a sudden you don't feel the same guilt of like consumption. The way in which the device is speaking to you, it's almost encouraging you to read versus watch. It kind of implies like, hey, get some reading done or take some notes or brainstorm something instead of how our existing devices seem to speak to us through the design and the backlight and everything, which is just like the opposite. It's like, hey, watch something. Hey, why don't you watch something?
Hey, are you sure you don't want to watch something? And I'm just like, you know what? 2026 is the year of social media's legal reckoning. And now I'm in the now I'm in the thing. Now I'm just in the article and it's extremely comfortable on my eyes. I'm not burning my retinas. I was the more deceived. Ham, get thee to a nunnery. Why would thou be a breeder of sinners? Farewell off. Oh, help him, you sweet heavens. Ham Mary, I'll give thee. This is like in the future, humans versus AI. And when we're like if we defeat the AI, this is what we turn it into.
Oh man, pure it's so drunk. Calum hit thee to another. Farewell
