5 “Grandpa” YouTube Channels Making 5 Figures A Month
Chapters25
The video challenges the misconception that YouTube is only for the young, highlighting five older creators who are thriving with simple, low-effort content and substantial income.
Older creators are crushing YouTube with simple, authentic content—and you can learn from their monetization playbooks long before chasing viral fame.
Summary
Shane Hummus shines a light on a surprising YouTube trend: grandpa and grandma channels that pull serious income from surprisingly simple content. He highlights Retirement Survival, a channel with no profile picture that racked up 227,000 views in a week and earns 13–40K per month from AdSense alone. He compares AdSense to broader monetization, noting his own channel earns far more from multiple income streams. Dr. Mark Baker (a clinical psychologist) demonstrates how a single, clear video like how to predict a divorce with 91% accuracy can drive substantial revenue and client interest. Shirley Curry, an 89-year-old gamer, shows how merchandise, Patreon, and other revenue streams can accompany viral video views totaling 31 million. Shane isn’t shy about the caveats: most creators fail on YouTube, but there are scalable lessons in targeting an older audience, leveraging simple formats, and combining content with products or services. He also shares practical proof points from RJ the unretired and a general framework for monetizing wisdom content. The video pivots to a live training invite, promising a step-by-step process and resources like the Niche Validator Pro 2.2 to help attendees replicate success. Finally, Shane emphasizes real-world applications for retirees or near-retirees who want extra income, plus an encouraging note about the growing ecosystem of senior-focused, high-value content.
Key Takeaways
- Retirement Survival earned 227,000 views in the last 7 days and 13–40K per month from AdSense alone.
- Dr. Mark Baker’s popular video, 'how to predict a divorce with 91% accuracy,' illustrates how a single well-timed topic can drive significant earnings and client interest.
- Shirley Curry has 31 million total views and monetizes via merch, Patreon, and related offerings beyond video views.
- Older-audience content tends to command higher AdSense earnings per 1,000 views (RJ the unretired is cited with $40–$60 per 1,000 views).
- You can monetize before hitting 1,000 subscribers (as with a case study of a hearing-care channel), showing early revenue opportunities beyond the YouTube Partner Program.
- Simple, authentic formats (talking-to-camera videos, minimal editing) can still generate substantial income if paired with smart monetization.
- Shane promotes live trainings and a high-touch support path (one-on-one calls) to replicate these results and optimize monetization.

Everyone thinks that YouTube is for young people, and they're completely wrong. Today, I'm going to be going over five grandpa and grandma type channels that are quietly crushing it on YouTube. But not only are they getting views, but they're making a full-time income from YouTube. And many of them are doing it, making some of the most simple content I have ever seen that barely takes up any of their time or effort. So, if you appreciate me making this type of content, let me know by gently tapping that like button. And let's jump into it right now with number one on the list, which is Retirement Survival.
Now, this is a channel that doesn't even have a profile picture. I am not kidding. It It's just an R. There's there's not even a profile picture on this channel. And yet, they are getting $227,000 views in the last 7 days and making 13 to $40,000 a month just from AdSense alone. That's just from the ads that pop up on your channel. You know how you're watching YouTube and then an ad pops up? Well, the creator of that video gets a percentage of the ad, right? And that is called AdSense. So, that's just the AdSense money they're making from their channel.
Now, just as a quick disclaimer, right, I'm talking about these big numbers. This is an unbelievably successful YouTuber. And this is also a very rare case. So, I just want to tell you that most people who start on YouTube fail. They do not make anywhere near this amount of money from YouTube. Just like any other business out there, most people who try it fail. With that being said, I want you to be inspired and motivated by these examples and not that you should copy them exactly, but you can get ideas from them and that'll give you a much higher chance of success.
And then even more than that, watching my channel, I give lots of tips on this channel that really tell you what to do and what not to do that'll increase your chances of success as well. And then even additionally, I do completely free live workshops, which I'm doing this week called How to Finally Profit from YouTube.com. Take the workshop. It'll literally tell you exactly what you should do, all the most important things, as well as what you shouldn't do, which is probably arguably even more important. And then after the workshop, I do a Q&A where I answer as many questions as you possibly have for me.
I've even stayed extra 2 hours in many cases. So, attend that workshop by clicking the link in the description and the pin comment below. Do not miss out on it because I'm going to be giving away an AI in that workshop called the Niche Validator Pro 2.2 that makes the entire process significantly easier. and I'll only be giving it away this one time. So, do not miss out on it and I look forward to seeing you there. Click that link in the description in the pin comment below. Okay, so back to retirement survival. This gentleman uploaded his first video about 6 months ago and almost immediately he had a relatively successful video.
It was called retired and broke and it got over 200,000 views. The average savings for those who reach full retirement age is $45,000. But four weeks ago, he had his real breakout video, which is how much YouTube paid my small channel in 2025. I had about 5,500 subs, uh, and I made $1,200. And that video got 1.7 million views and completely blew up. Now, one thing I want to point out about this creator is that he makes very simple videos. It's literally just him talking to the camera. I'm guessing he probably is just recording with a phone most likely.
And by the way guys, I mean this is like insanely simple content that you can make. Like there's no edits. There's no thumbnail. It's literally just a still shot from the video. Even the topics are relatively simple. I don't even think he wrote a script for these topics. He basically just thinks of them and records them. And overall, this is a trend of older people who are just completely blowing up on YouTube. Now, no one can be 100% sure why this is happening because these older people are blowing up with very simple, very raw, very authentic content.
And it doesn't take a lot of time or effort to make and they're making a ton of money every single month doing this. And again, nobody can be 100% sure why this is happening. But here's my hypothesis. I think that YouTube has basically realized that they can only grow their viewer base so much. They can only get so many eyeballs on the platform. And they already have, I believe, 2 billion monthly active users, which is 25% of the world's population. And most of those people are in first world English-speaking countries, which are the countries where most of the money comes from.
So they basically have the entire market cornered and there's just not that many more eyeballs that they can get from YouTube. So of course, if you can't grow your business by getting more customers, what are you going to do? Well, of course, you are going to make more money from each customer. And that is exactly what I think they are doing in this situation. They are promoting content that is specifically tailored towards older people because advertisers are willing to pay more money for older viewers. And I know this because I work with a ton of these older channels.
Just as an example, RJ the unretired. He started posting about 5 months ago on YouTube. He had one video that did pretty well and then one video that absolutely blew up and got well over a million views. Everyone always says wait until the age of 70 so you can collect the biggest social security check. and he was making 20 to $30,000 a month after one month of starting on YouTube. And I can see the behind-the-scenes stats on his channel and I know that he's making somewhere between $40 and $60 per 1,000 views just from AdSense alone on some of these videos.
So, just to put this in perspective, typical entertainment channel probably about $1 to $5 per 1,000 views from AdSense. Educational channels, you know, $20 per 1,000 views from AdSense. and his channel is making $40 to $60 per 1,000 views with a lot of these videos from AdSense. So, YouTube is making a lot more money, potentially three times as much money by promoting these older creators, which tend to attract an older audience. And by the way, R.J. is absolutely crushing it as well. He's another example of one of these channel. And he's making pretty simple content where he just talks about retirement related stuff.
And by the way, if you want to learn exactly how we do this, obviously you're watching the channel, we reveal a lot of stuff on this channel. you really want to attend our live training this week. Click that link in the description and the pin comment below to check out that live training because on the training I'm going to tell you everything we do, everything we don't do, which is probably even more important than the things that we do, and exactly a step-by-step process that you need to take to focus on the most important things to get results like this.
Now, back to retirement survival for a moment. He's making probably all of his money from AdSense. And this is basically the most basic way of all to make money on YouTube. It's just you enable AdSense. When you get to 1,000 subscribers on YouTube, you become a part of the YouTube partner program. Very easy to do. And you just start making money from the ads that show up on your channel. It's that simple. Totally passive after you've uploaded the video. But there are significantly better ways to make money. Just to put this in perspective, this channel, Shane Hummus, from AdSense alone makes about $20 per 1,000 views.
So, I've made up to $70,000 in a single month just from AdSense alone when my channel was doing really, really well. But that is just a tiny percentage of the amount of money that I make from my channel. Just to put this in perspective, overall, I make about $400 per 1,000 views from my channel from all of the different sources of monetization, all of the different income streams. And so we make 20 times more than just AdSense alone. So this channel right here is likely not monetizing very well. And by the way, Retirement Survival, if you see this, definitely check out the live training and, you know, maybe even book a call with myself or my team because we can definitely help you monetize cuz you are leaving an absolute massive amount of money on the table by not monetizing your channel properly.
But let's move on to the next channel, which is Dr. Mark Baker. Now, this is an older gentleman who is a clinical psychologist and he's a marriage and family therapist and he talks about a lot of stuff related obviously to marriage and family and his most popular video ever is how to predict a divorce with 91% accuracy. And John Gottman has been studying marriages his entire career. That's all he does. Now, he is an older gentleman of course and this video is dead simple. But before we get to that, he's making about $2 to $5,000 a month according to Vid IQ.
And his most popular video ever, how to predict a divorce with 91% accuracy, made about $27,000. And that doesn't count all the people that he was probably able to drive to his various different businesses, including his clinical counseling practice. So, this can be a phenomenal way for you to make money if you're kind of a small business owner that relies on getting clients or if you have a book or if you have some sort of online product or even if you don't have an online product. I have seen a ton of therapists that will literally get people so excited about working with them that they'll be willing to fly to the therapist.
Okay, so this is yet another example of how you can make money with YouTube. And I would imagine that he is very likely monetizing his YouTube channel in a much better way than the previous person that we talked about. So this 2 to 5,000, I would imagine he's probably making 20 times more than that. And he's likely making somewhere between 40 to $100,000 a month from this channel if he's properly monetized. Now, you might be thinking, Shane, what's with all the men, right? Like, I thought you said grandpa's and grandmas on this one. And yes, I did.
And let me present a grandma who's making a lot of money as well. Shirley Curry. So, this is an amazing story. So, she is an 89year-old grandmother who loves to play and record games and she lives in Ohio. Now, she's got merchandise, she's got a Patreon, she's got all kinds of other stuff, but honestly, she'd be doing this whether or not she's making money from it or not. And she's gathered 31 million views on her channel. and her most popular video, Skyrim episode uh 1, I think. Katamat. Ooh, I'm glad I didn't walk out there.
Got 2.7 million views and made over $13,000. So, Shirley is absolutely crushing it. Love to see her doing that with her content. And she's gotten 31 million views, which tells me she's made a lot of money from this channel. Probably enough money to retire, but she probably doesn't need it. She's probably just making money to supplement herself in retirement. And again, she's got a Patreon, she's got merch, she's got all kinds of other stuff that she's selling on her channel. And so, I am sure that she is making good money with this channel. And a lot of people don't want to make an absolute killing with her channel.
They basically, you know, maybe they're close to retirement or something like that and they just want to make a few thousand to supplement their income in retirement, right? Maybe it's just something to keep them a little bit busy while they're in retirement. make a few thousand extra dollars so they can go on a couple extra vacations a year or buy some extra food that they like or something like that, right? And that is pretty awesome. That's actually an example that we have with this client right here, Care Channel. So, hearing care channel, the name of the client is Guy and he basically has tenitus, which is constant ringing in the ears, which is a something that my dad suffers from.
A lot of veterans suffer from this, and it's really something that is quite painful to deal with. And he basically wanted to make a channel where he could educate people about it, help people avoid it, and also help people who are already suffering from it treat and manage the symptoms. And a lot of the things he does, for instance, on this channel is reviewing hearing aids. And when he started working with us, he got his first brand deal, which was $1,500 a month before he even hit 500 subscribers. So, he actually was able to monetize his channel before he even hit 1,000 subscribers.
He wasn't even a part of the YouTube partner program yet, and he already monetized his channel. and now he's making thousands and thousands of dollars a month from this channel. It doesn't take him all that much time. It's something that he can do just to supplement his income in retirement or being close to retirement and he is crushing it and we're super happy for him. And again, if you want to learn how we did this, I'm actually going to talk about his case specifically because his case makes me really happy because that's his version of rich, right?
Just making a few thousand extra dollars a month is his version of rich. And I think he's actually doing quite a bit more than that now, but that's what he wanted. And if you want to learn how to do that, again, live training this Tuesday, 9:00 p p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Check it out in the description pin comment below. Also, if you see this after that time, we may have another live training in the future. So, still click the link and check it out. And finally, when we're talking about grandpa content, I'm going to talk about my brother Zach.
Okay, I'm halfway kidding here when it comes to the grandpa content. Obviously, you know, my brother's 50 years old. I'm kind of making fun of him a little bit here. All in good jest, of course. But my brother is old enough to be a grandpa technically if he had kids really young, but he is not a grandpa. But yeah, my brother, you know, he came to me. He was 50 years old. Basically, he told me, "Shane, my body's starting to wear out after being in the trades for years. What should I do?" I told him to start on YouTube.
He thought it was a crazy idea because he's too old. He's not technical. He's not very artistic or creative. He barely even watches YouTube. And I just told him, "Trust me, bro." And he did trust me, bro. And one month after uploading his first video, he was already making $214 in a single day just from AdSense alone on his channel. 6 months after uploading, he was making over $500 in a single day just from AdSense on his channel. Plus, he was making a ton of other money from affiliate marketing and other things like that. So, he was absolutely crushing it on his channel.
And he was able to do it in a very short period of time. And if you want to learn more about that, he'll also be included in the live training this Tuesday, 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time as well. Click that link in the description and the pin comment below. And honestly guys, there are so many other examples of these kind of grandpa or grandma content type channels. I mean, we could make an entire series on this. There's literally hundreds of them that are blowing up right now. One of the biggest, most exciting trends I've ever seen on YouTube.
I call this like wisdom content as well because a lot of people want to learn from the wisdom of older people, which is great. There's so many 20-year-olds out there talking about wisdom when they don't have any. But older people have a ton of wisdom, and you also have a lot of things that you could teach. So, you want to ask yourself, you know, if you had a time machine, you could go back to the younger version of yourself and you could tell yourself to do things or to not do things, would that save yourself a massive amount of time, effort, and money?
And if the answer is yes, then you could help a ton of other people as well. You can definitely make content just like this if you are an older person or if you know an older person in your family. So, definitely attend the training. Uh, click the link in the description in the pin comment below. Also, I know that 99% of people who watch my videos are never going to work with myself or my team and that's completely fine. We give tons of value for free. We our rule is to always give at least 10 times more value than we receive.
That is a hard rule we have on our team. And that is why we do tons of research on these really valuable videos. That's why we do the live trainings where I just give my time every single week to teach you guys the most important things and even do long Q&A sessions afterwards, completely free, too. But with that being said, if you're the 1% or 0.1% who is very serious about growing and making money on YouTube, you want to give yourself yourself the best chance of success, you want to do it without as much headache, you want to do it faster, you want to do it better, then go ahead and click the link in the description in the pin comment below to work with us.
So, there'll be a link down there where you can actually book a call to work with us one-on-one. Or if it's not down there, look in our about section. It'll be there as well. So, the types of people that should do this should be like business owners who want to use YouTube as a way to get leads. YouTubers who are already getting a lot of views and doing pretty well, but they want to, you know, basically treat their YouTube channel like a business and take it to the next level. YouTubers who are already crushing it, but they want to crush it even more.
Or people that just want to treat YouTube like a professional. You really want to treat it like a business. You want to treat it like a professional and you really want to take it seriously. So, if those are you and you want to start right now, then go ahead and book a call. We only accept about 18% of people who try to work with us. So, make sure you watch the video on the page and then when you fill out the request to have a call with us, make sure you give a good amount of detail.
And additionally, you can check out this video right here where we talk about how we helped one client very recently absolutely crush it on YouTube.
