5 YouTube Channels That Look Boring… But Make 6 Figures/Year
Chapters21
This chapter begins by contrasting the tedium of traditional topics with the opportunity to monetize boring niches, setting up the idea that unglamorous topics can be highly profitable.
Shane Hummus breaks down how boring niches like weather, calligraphy, and Minecraft-style content can crush six-figure months on YouTube, with practical monetization strategies and real-world student success stories.
Summary
Shane Hummus highlights how channels that seem “boring” at first, like Max Velocity Severe Weather Center, can cash in big by leaning into long-form content and live streams. He notes Max Velocity’s earnings range from $71k to $213k per month and points to a mix of long-form videos and regular live broadcasts as the engine behind those numbers. Shane emphasizes the power of syndication—reposting content across platforms to maximize reach—and contrasts AdSense revenue with additional monetization streams. He shares his own earnings benchmarks, explaining he earns about $20 per 1,000 views from AdSense and roughly $400 per 1,000 views from other monetization methods, illustrating how to diversify income beyond ads. The video also includes case studies like Walken Rell, a foreign exchange student who built a profitable niche around Ivy League admissions, and Takumi, a Japanese calligrapher whose popular five-minute video earned tens of thousands from a broader audience. Shane mentions Blindy Craft, a newer channel leveraging 3D Minecraft-style animations to generate substantial monthly revenue, validating the point that niche expertise and engaging presentation matter more than sheer view counts. Finally, he pitches a free live workshop for 2026, sharing how outsourcing content production can turn a time-intensive channel into a scalable pipeline with recurring leads and clients. Throughout, Shane operates as a tutor who demonstrates concrete numbers, tools, and strategies that his audience can imitate.
Key Takeaways
- Max Velocity Severe Weather Center earns between $71,000 and $213,000 per month, driven by long-form weather videos and frequent live streams.
- Monetization is about more than AdSense: Shane Hummus notes channels can earn far more per 1,000 views from other revenue streams than from ads alone (e.g., $20/1k vs $400/1k on his own channels).
- Content syndication across platforms and a mix of formats (long-form videos + live streams + occasional shorts) amplifies reach and revenue.
- Niche expertise can produce outsized income with relatively modest view counts, as shown by Walken Rell’s $80k–$85k launches targeting foreign exchange students seeking Ivy League access (not just high view counts).
Who Is This For?
Essential viewing for aspiring YouTubers and YouTubers looking to monetize more effectively: it demonstrates that boring-sounding niches can be highly profitable with the right content strategy and monetization mix.

So you'll also be able to ask me questions live. So I'll see you Sunday this week. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming. All right. So back to Max Velocity. We all know that YouTube is basically completely disrupting traditional media. And this is another perfect example of that. This gentleman right here, Max Velocity, is getting paid 71 to $213,000 a month basically just to talk about the weather.
So, this video that went live about 13 hours ago got over 300,000 views. And there will be at least some sort of environment tomorrow afternoon where there could be a couple of tornadoes. And I discovered this channel a few days ago when I saw this video right here. A huge storm is coming as we will eventually see a line of thunderstorms developing, almost a squall line that will stretch from South Texas. Now, he posts these long form videos and he gets a lot of views from them. But if you see right here, he's also live.
So, it looks like he's basically just doing this constant live weather update as well. And there's 13,000 people watching. And the last one he streamed was about 2 weeks ago, and there was 860,000 people that watched that, and that was an 8 hour stream. So, he very likely does these lives quite often, and those make him a lot of money. Now, in terms of monetization, it looks like he's mostly making money from just the views alone. He does have links to other stuff on other platforms. I would imagine he's probably syndicating his content. This is something we teach our students and clients how to do is to syndicate their content.
So, YouTube is the mother platform and then they basically syndicate their content to the other platforms in a mostly automated way. Now, by the way, if you look at his view stats, it actually says that he's probably making even more money about 96 to $266,000 a month with 39 million views in the last month. Now, one thing I should note, he's doing a little bit of shorts here, but it's mostly long form views. That's why he's making so much money is because of the long form. And then if you look at his most popular video ever, yeah, not a whole lot of rotation, but Orlando is in a tornado warning.
So, if you're in that warning, seek shelter, and that made about $19,000. Now, he is selling merch in his videos if you look down here, but that probably doesn't account for too much. And he does have a link tree where he has a lot of other links. He probably has like some affiliate stuff and all that, but chances are he's not making that much money outside of just the views alone. And that's something that we help YouTubers with all the time because most YouTubers are quite bad at making money outside of the basics. So, just as an example, on this channel, Shane Hummus, I make about $20 per 1,000 views.
And this is a mass market channel, very similar to Max Velocity. And so, I'm making about $20 per 1,000 views from AdSense, which is the ads that pop up on the channel. But I make about $400 per 1,000 views from all other methods of monetization. Right? So most YouTubers are not monetizing correctly. I'm making 20 times more than just from AdSense alone. A lot of YouTubers might not even make double what they're making from AdSense. Or in many cases, AdSense is their only way of making money. Additionally, if you have a different type of channel, you can make far more than that.
For instance, my second channel, Shane Hummus, the content growth engine, that channel is basically targeted towards business owners or very advanced YouTubers. So, it's a very niche audience. So, audiences like this, affluent B2B audiences like businessto business audiences or basically just very sophisticated audiences typically where they're very sophisticated in whatever niche that you're covering. Typically, you can make far more money per 1,000 views from audiences like that. So, just as an example, on that channel, I make well over $4,000 per 1,000 views. This is something I help a lot of people with. It's also something I'm going to be going over in the live training.
So, click that link in the check that out. So, yeah, Max is absolutely crushing it. There's also other weather channels that are making probably a bit less than him. He seems to be the biggest one that I've seen that's an independent creator, but he's actually getting more views than some of the like biggest weather channels in the world, which is insane. So, just as an example, Max got about 39 million views over the last month. Fox News Weather Channel got 19 million views. This is a massive company versus an individual creator who's probably just doing stuff on his own.
Maybe has a few helpers or something like that. And he's getting twice as many views as one of the biggest news networks in the world. I mean, it's just absolutely insane. And this just shows the opportunity that you have as an individual creator. YouTube just completely decentralized media and you can now get a piece of that pie. And that's a very, very big pie. Now, by the way, it's not just channels that are getting millions and millions of views that are making money. Those are the channels where it's more obvious that they're making money because they're getting so many views.
But there's a lot of channels out there that aren't getting that many views that are still making a ton of money. An example of one of those channels is my student Walken Rell. If you look at the Vid IQ estimate for how much he's making, it'll say he's making about $60 to $179 a month just from AdSense. And most people looking at this would be like, "Oh, wow. this guy is absolutely wasting his time. Why is he even posting on YouTube? But actually, Waqen when he was 18 years old started this channel and started working with me.
And he was a foreign exchange student who got into an elite Ivy League university in the United States of America. And so, after consulting with me, you know, it can be kind of hard for an 18-year-old to pick his niche. We decided to make a niche on just that, helping other foreign exchange students get into elite Ivy League universities or just elite universities in general. And so that was his niche. He launched his product and he had an $80,000 month. In fact, it was about $85,000 month. The first month that he did a full launch on his product, he had so many students come into his program that he had to completely shut down the application for his program.
And he had to stop making videos for a very long time. Plus, he was quite busy with school as well. And he is completely oversubscribed now. So even though he's not getting that many views and to the beginner's eye, they might think, "Oh, he's not making that money." He's completely oversubscribed. He has a weight list of people who want to work with him and he's making basically as much money as he wants and he's doing it all while double majoring in engineering and business at an elite university in the US. So he is very busy.
Okay? So if you think that you have to get millions of views to make a ton of money, you don't. If you're serving the right niche, if you're serving the right audience, and you're selling them the right products and services, you can make millions of dollars sometimes by getting just thousands of views or even hundreds of views in certain cases. And we go over exactly how to do this in the live training we're doing this week. It's completely free. It's a workshop. So, click the link in the description, the pin comment below. Do not miss out on it.
All right. Next channel is a calligraphy channel, specifically Japanese calligrapher Takumi. And this channel does calligraphy, basically making your handwriting look really good and also sort of how you draw different styles or fonts of letters and numbers. And the estimated monthly earnings for him is 53 to $158,000 a month. Now his most viewed video is print and cursive handwriting with pencil neat and clean calligraphy. got about 56 million views and it made about $42,000. And this is a video that was just a few minutes long, about five minutes. And it's pretty simple to make as well.
I mean, obviously, he has to be good at what he does, calligraphy, but there's probably a lot of things that you are quite good at as well. So, it's kind of difficult to see how he's monetizing outside of YouTube alone, but I'm sure he's using a lot of affiliate links and stuff like that. And so there's a good chance he's making a decent amount more than just from AdSense alone, but he likely could be monetizing better. And so yeah, if he sees this, attend my live training as well. All right, next one is Blindy Craft.
And this is a very interesting channel because it's kind of like putting the 3D elements of Minecraft and then doing interesting animations from it. And this channel is making about $34 to $110,000 a month. It's actually a relatively new channel. It only started about a year ago. and their most popular video, the most satisfying simulations of 2025 3D physics showcase. Got about 4 million views and made about $24,000. So, really solid stuff. Now, next channel is actually a business owner who owns a portfolio of companies. And this is one of his channels, which is my consulting offer.
And basically when Davis first came to us, he was spending probably about 20 hours a week on one YouTube channel for one of his businesses, which was crazy inefficient. And now he basically fully outsourced all of the production of his content and he spends zero hours a week on it. And the YouTube channel just keeps bringing him clients passively day after day, week after week, month after month. He's just getting more views, more leads, and more clients. And he's implementing these same strategies into his other portfolio companies as well. So, he went from spending 20 hours a week on one channel for one of his businesses to spending zero hours a week on multiple channels for multiple businesses.
Now, this is not for everybody. Typically, I do recommend that you record your own content. But for certain types of businesses, this makes a lot of sense, especially if it's not a type of business where you're really tied to the brand. And now, Davis is an example of one of the clients that I work with. And we do work with a select type of client. So, let me explain exactly who that is. One, business owners that have a long-term growth mindset that want to get more leads and grow their business from YouTube. Two, YouTubers who are already getting views, but they want to monetize better on YouTube.
Three, YouTubers who are already crushing it, but they want to crush it even harder and really scale their channel. Or four, people that just want to really take YouTube seriously. Okay, I can't emphasize that enough. So, if that is you, go ahead and book a call. It'll be in the description, the pin comment below, or it might be in my about section depending. We only accept about 18% of people who try to work with us. So only apply if you're very serious about growing and making money on YouTube. But if that's you, go ahead, click that link in the description, the pen comment below.
Also, only apply if you're ready to start right away. And by the way, here's a video we did with a link to Davis so you can see exactly how we helped him grow on YouTube.
