Summary
Shane Hummus walks through the top five online certificates that survive the AI shift, separating hype from real outcomes. He emphasizes real-world value, not just credentialing, and flags which programs pair well with hands-on work. The Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate stands out for its direct prep to the CompTIA Security+ credential, plus hands-on labs. Shane cautions that entry-level roles in cybersecurity remain competitive, so use the cert to build a solid foundation and a portfolio. The Google Project Management Certificate is praised as a bridge to more advanced PM credentials, while remaining AI-resilient because it centers on people and process. For those totally new to IT, Shane highlights the Google IT Support Professional Certificate as a low-risk starter, with a path to CompTIA A+ if you want higher hiring odds. IBM’s Data Science Professional Certificate is presented as a deep, approachable option for beginners that eventually leads to higher data roles, especially when paired with Google's data analytics track. Finally, the Google Data Analytics Certificate is lauded for its real-world job-market impact, including modules on AI integration, but Shane notes gaps in depth on SQL, Python, and visualization tools, urging learners to augment with deeper practice and portfolio work. Online certifications blew up, and they were an incredible opportunity to land jobs without having to spend a bunch of money on college degrees or boot camp, but then AI showed up. And many of these online certifications are now not as good as they used to be. However, there's still a bunch of videos online that will tell you that all of them are good. And most of these videos will never tell you what actually happens after you finish, what employers think, or whether people get hired. But I'm going to go through the top five online certifications that are actually worth it post AI.
And this is based on real data and real outcomes. And a lot of the certifications are still good, but many of them will sit on your resume and do nothing. So, if you appreciate me doing this type of video, let me know by tapping that like button. Let's jump into it right now. All right, first of all, we're going to be talking about certificates and certifications in this video, just FYI. I may mention certain certifications and certificates that go really well with each other as well. So, number five on the list is going to be the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate.
Now, this one is nine courses, it's fully online, there's no prior experience needed, and it covers network security, Linux, SQL, Python, SIEM tools, and intrusion detection. And they say you can complete it in 6 months at under 7 hours a week. And here's something that separates this from most certs on this list. Google built it to directly prepare you for the CompTIA Security+ exam. And this is the gold standard industry leading certification for cybersecurity roles. So, finish both and you walk away with a dual credential. And the Google Cybersecurity Certificate is basically preparation for CompTIA Security+, and the job market behind this is real.
The projected growth for technology and cybersecurity related jobs in the next 10 years is huge. And according to Glassdoor, cybersecurity analysts make around $101 to $168,000 a year. But let's talk about the honest reality, because cybersecurity entry-level roles are competitive. Employers want to see that you can actually do the work, not just that you finished a course. So, use this cert to build the foundation, pair it with hands-on labs and personal projects, then pursue Security+ if getting hired is the actual goal. The cert points you in the right direction. You have to walk the rest of the way yourself.
Now, by the way, this cert and all of the other ones that I'm going to talk about on this list are going to be down in the description, so you can click down there to check them out as well. Oh, and did I mention that Google actually created two new AI-related sections that they put on this cert? Yeah, they did that. So, Google is really staying on top of it when it comes to making sure that people have the correct skills. And the reason they do that is, of course, because of the fact that these professional certificates started off in the first place as a response to colleges and other educational methods not preparing people with the correct skills for the job market.
And so, Google just took it into their own hands to tell people what they want to see. And so, they just recently came out with two new AI sections to the cert that teach people what they want to see when it comes to AI. So, yeah, this one is still excellent. And cybersecurity in general is just super valuable. That value is not going away. Additionally, I would say cybersecurity is one of those jobs that's much safer when it comes to having a job in your country of origin, because generally speaking, companies like to hire people that are in their company of origin, so it's a lot harder to outsource these types of roles.
And they do that in many cases for security-related reasons. So, yeah, there's a lot of other reasons this one's on the list. I still think it's great. All right, quick break. This week, I'm doing a one-time-only workshop where I talk about how to finally make money from youtube.com in 2026. And you can check it out down the description and the pinned comment below. At this workshop, I'm going to be giving away the Niche Validator Pro completely free. This is a GPT-powered by a piece of software that I've been working on for a long time now, and it's been trained on thousands of hours of my teaching, coaching sessions, and more.
So, you don't have to spend years to pick a profitable niche. You can do it in a matter of minutes. Heck, it's even possible to do it in seconds sometimes. And I'm going to be giving this away at the workshop, so make sure you click the link in the description, and then show up to the workshop. And the best way to do that is to make sure you add it to your calendar once you've signed up for it. So, you basically just click add this to your calendar once you're on the thank you page after you've registered.
And it'll show up as either Google, Apple, or Outlook calendar, whatever calendar you have. can make sure you won't miss the chance to grab the Niche Validator Pro completely free. And you'll also be able to ask me questions live, so I look forward to meeting you. Can't wait to see you there. I'm going to be showing you this new opportunity. It's completely free, and it's amazing whether you basically want to use it to get a better job, use it to network, use it to make some passive income, start a side hustle, make a full-time income, or even start a full-on business.
It works incredibly well with all of those, and it's completely free. So, make sure you click the link in the description, and then show up to the workshop. back to your regularly scheduled content. But anyways, let's move on to number four, which is the Google Project Management Certificate. Now, this one is seven courses, it's all online, it's totally flexible, and you go through the foundations of project management, initiation, planning, execution, Agile, and then a real-world capstone project. Now, it's officially 6 months. Most people finish in 1 to 2 months. By the way, like almost all of these certs, like the Google certs, they always say, "Oh, it's going to take you about 6 months." And then, literally everybody who reports that they finished it, they say it takes anywhere from like a couple weeks to maybe a few months at max.
So, like the longest it takes most people is like 3 months. So, just FYI. And the people that take 3 months are usually working a full-time job and just doing a little bit here and there. So, yeah, every single course in this program is rated 4.8 stars or above. And here's something worth noting. The National Association of State Workforce Agencies, which represents all 50 states, has partnered with Google to distribute these certificates through state workforce programs across the country. That is absolutely huge. So, they're basically partnering with the government to tell people the exact skills that they want them to have to be employable.
So, why did I rank it in this spot? Well, it's because what the community actually says after finishing it. But the consistent message is this: Treat it as proof of foundational knowledge, not a standalone qualification. It's a bridge, not a destination. And according to Glassdoor, project managers make around $80 to $138,000 a year. Now, if you're already in an operational role and you want to move into project management, this is a smart, affordable way to start building the language and the framework. Then you can chase more advanced project management credentials down the road once you've got the experience and hours behind you.
So, use it right and it's worth it. Expect to do everything alone and you'll be let down. Now, another thing about project management, specifically when it comes to AI, is leading other human beings is always going to be a valuable skill, right? And as a project manager, you are leading a group of people to complete a project on time and under budget, or at least in budget. And that is a valuable skill whether AI is part of it or not, right? So, this one is relatively AI-proof in my opinion. And with this cert, as well as all of the other certs on this list, I highly recommend that you actually just embrace AI.
So, the first certification you would get after getting this one would be the CAPM. And then, down the line, you would likely get the PMP certification as well. But this is a really good place to start. And it's a great way for you to dip your toe in, see if you actually like it before you dive in headfirst. All right, number three is the Google IT Support Professional Certificate. This one is the OG, the very first certificate that Google and Coursera ever collaborated on. I believe this is the very first professional certificate in general. And this one I'm going to put on the list for a very specific person.
You have zero IT experience, zero. You're not even sure if IT is the right path, and you want a low-risk, affordable way to find out before committing to harder certifications. That's who this is built for. The Google IT Support Professional Certificate is the OG, it's number one, and it covers hardware, operating systems, networking, security, and technical customer support. Plus, it's self-paced, and it's fully online. And according to Glassdoor, a lot of IT-related careers pay really, really good money, even the ones that you get at the very beginning. If getting hired in IT is the goal, the CompTIA A+ is what employers are actually asking for.
Now, the Google cert is a starting point. It's a way to test if this field is right for you before you go deeper, and it actually can help you get the CompTIA A+ as well. With that being said, there are a good amount of people that have reported online that they have landed IT jobs with just the Google Professional IT Cert as well. So, it does give you a puncher's chance at actually landing the job, but if you want to have a much higher probability of landing the job, especially if you're total beginner, get the CompTIA A+ certification as well.
All right, number two is the IBM Data Science Professional Certificate. All right, so it's not all just Google certs here. The IBM Data Science Professional Cert is great, too. This one covers Python, SQL, data visualization, Jupyter notebooks, and gets into machine learning fundamentals. Now, the IBM Data Science Cert is backed by one of the biggest names in tech and is open to complete beginners, which is pretty crazy, but it actually is. No prior coding or computer science background required. And you can complete it on your own schedule in less than 6 months. I would expect this one to probably take a bit longer than some of the other ones.
And according to ZipRecruiter, the median salary for a data scientist is $57 an hour. Now, here's where IBM has a real edge over some of the other certs that are available. Google recently updated their cert to include Python, which is actually a good sign, but check the current curriculum before you enroll, because these programs update frequently. Community comparisons describe IBM as more technically deep and traditional, while Google is seen as more modern and user-friendly. So, honestly, both of them are really good, but the IBM one tends to go a little bit deeper. And you should probably just get both.
All right, number one is the Google Data Analytics Certificate. And this one gets talked about constantly, and for good reason. But also with a lot of things left out. This one covers data cleaning, analysis, visualization, SQL, spreadsheets, Tableau, and R programming. It's beginner level, and there is no prior experience needed. And officially, it says it takes 6 months to finish at 10 hours a week, but we all know that you can finish it much, much faster than that. For instance, one reviewer who finished the whole thing said it took them 80 to 100 total hours.
Now, the numbers on this cert are real. Coursera's page mentioned that there were over 270,000 open data analytics jobs in the US. And you might be thinking, "Well, Shane, that was before AI came along." And that's true, and the economy is a little bit different right now. With that being said, they actually added two modules on how to integrate AI into data analytics, which is absolutely amazing. And that makes you dangerous on the job market. And data analysts make around 72 to 122,000 a year. And Google reports that 75% of completers say that it helped their career within 6 months.
And these numbers matter. But here's what most videos don't tell you. The SQL, Tableau, and R content is surface level. It gives you the foundation, but it's not job-ready depth. And there's another gap worth knowing. This cert teaches R, not Python, and it uses Tableau, not Power BI, which can be a problem with a lot of jobs out there. Because in current job postings, Python appears in 33% of data analyst listings, and R shows up in only 20%. So, what do you do with this? You treat it as a foundation. You finish it, and then you go deeper on SQL and Python on your own.
Or you get the other certs, like the ones from IBM. Cuz the cert gives you the vocabulary, but the extra work after it gets you the job. So, you need to make sure that you make a really good portfolio. You make sure you make a really good resume. Use the skills and the knowledge you learn to make something completely unique. I always tell people on this channel that it's a really good idea to just go to some local business, either maybe your family owns a business, or just some local business, and do projects for them for free, and then put those on your portfolio, and put those on your resume.
Now again, if you want these certs, links in the description and the pin comment below, you can check them out. Check out this video right here for a deeper dive on which certs are really good.
