How this Goat Website Makes $150K With Almost No Traffic
Chapters7
Introduces the site as a large affiliate driven directory and hints at the sponsorship and branding consistency across sites.
Ahrefs breaks down how hiregoats.com monetized almost no traffic by owning the affiliate network and steering all searches to Goats on the Go, then shows a path to replicate with better UX and new monetization angles.
Summary
Ahrefs’ analysis centers on hiregoats.com, a site that appears to own the “goat rental” market online by creating a network of related sites and redirecting searches to their affiliate partners. Tim from Ahrefs notes that goat rentals attract actual buyers, not just browsers, with around 1,900–2,000 organic visits per month and clear seasonal spikes. The video reveals that goats on the go, part of the same ecosystem, drives most revenue through its affiliate program and licensing structure, paying affiliates around $2,000 annually (raised to $2,400 in 2024) plus onboarding fees. The core insight is that the real money isn’t the rent-a-goat keyword itself, but the business coaching and affiliate network that supports goat entrepreneurs. Tim suggests that hiregoats.com exists mainly for visibility and branding, while the real profits flow from goats on the go and its 70 affiliates. He also sketches a concrete growth playbook: improve UX to convert more visitors, potentially raise prices for affiliates, promote the affiliate network more prominently on hiregoats.com, and target new keyword opportunities (like “what do goats eat” or “what causes goats to faint”) to funnel more business into the training and affiliate ecosystem. The overarching takeaway is that offline businesses can dominate search by building an affiliate-driven, scalable network and by reframing the offer around business coaching rather than the literal product. Finally, Ahrefs invites viewers to consider selling the site or applying the described strategies to their own niches, underscoring the monetization leverage behind smart SEO and affiliate networks.
Key Takeaways
- Hiregoats.com serves primarily as a visibility and branding hub to funnel traffic into a larger affiliate network (Goats on the Go).
- Goats on the Go pays affiliates at least $2,000 per year (later $2,400 in 2024) plus a $500 onboarding fee and a 2-year commitment, driving revenue of over $300k across 70 affiliates in two years.
- The majority of traffic goes to the homepage with queries like 'rent a goat' and 'goat rental near me', indicating the commercial potential of a niche when click-throughs are monopolized.
- The business model monetizes the ecosystem rather than the base product (goat rentals) by coaching and licensing affiliates, turning a traditional offline service into a scalable online network.
- Improving UX and cross-promoting the affiliate network on hiregoats.com could significantly lift conversions and revenue beyond current levels.
- Expanding keyword targets around goat-related topics (e.g., what goats eat, why goats faint) could drive more qualified traffic into the training/affiliate funnel and unlock substantial revenue growth.
- Seasonality strongly affects organic visits (approx. 1,900/month with rises in spring/summer), highlighting the need to optimize for evergreen content and affiliate promotions.

Imagine making $150,000 with just 2,000 organic visits per month. They own the entire market. That's absolutely crazy. The formula, take a traditionally offline business online, then monopolize search results. They've owned all the clicks in Google since 2022. That's exactly what hiregoats.com pulled off. And in this video, we're breaking down the exact SEO strategy behind it and how you can copy it to dominate your own niche. But first, let's break down the site. just hiregoats.com. The complete directory of goats working on landscapes. They're probably renting goats somewhere. And then there's just like this clear sponsorship thing.
I have a feeling this is all owned by the same person. Yeah, goats on the goat. Exact same design pretty much. It's like goats here. Same colors of buttons, I think. So that means that this is like a network of sites. All right. So let's see how they're ranking. So, if I Google rent a goat, they are number one. And oh, goats on the go is number two. So, they actually own the entire SER, which is just mad. Anyone who's going to rent a goat and anyone who's going to search it online, which is pretty much everyone that's not word of mouth, they're going to end up somehow going through Goats on the Go or one of their affiliates.
I can see this being like a legit huge business. You never know from the look of their site, though. All right, so let's build them up in hrefs now and really see what's going on under the hood. They get around 1,900 monthly organics. It starts to rise around April and starts to go down in the fall. These spikes are all about seasonality. This is a very clear trend line. So right now is March 19th. So we have 1791 there and it's not done yet. March is not done yet. So I think that they're actually going to go even higher in the summer months here.
So, if we change the search volume to an average search volume, year-over-year, there's a very clear trend line that is going up and to the right. And I think that kind of shows either that a they're becoming more visible through search engines like Google or hiring goats is becoming a lot more popular. So, 1,900 per month is is quite good. And so, let's add on some competitors cuz they also own goats onthe-go.com. in goats on the goat traffic also gets around 1500. So they're getting like 4,000 monthly visits during peak season of people who want to rent a goat.
Like if you think about the commerciality of rent a goat, people are there to actually spend money. Let's take a look at their top pages and see which pages are actually generating traffic for them. The majority of their traffic goes to their homepage and it's because of queries like rent a goat, goat rental near me, even goat landscaping. They're in position three. That's pretty wild. Goats for rent to eat weeds near me. Like these are real queries that people are searching for. And there's nobody else that's trying to rank for these, especially with experience. They've owned all the clicks in Google since 2022.
So for like 3 years, all goat rentals have been going through this company in some way, shape, or form. and you'd never know it because they only get like 1,900 monthly organics. But when you combine it with goats on the go, things start to look very, very different. The deeper I dug into the site, the more I realized there was zero competition. But why? Was it because there's no money in renting goats, or was the person behind the site some kind of low-key SEO genius? Turns out it was neither. What he was really doing was building leverage.
Okay, so with hireergoats.com, it doesn't look like they're actually making money from it, but instead they're just using it for visibility. Their money seems to be coming from goats on the go. So, let's find a herd. Ah, this is interesting. So, affiliate directory, we can see here that they have multiple locations or something like that, but the locations are probably just affiliates. Oh, yeah. You know, I think that these are actually legit like real families that are running goat businesses. Okay, so they have 70 goat grazing entrepreneurs that have joined the goats on the go community.
Affiliates use goats on the goat trademarks and receive training and support from the company's founders and from each other. They're not even trying to rent goats. The money is coming from bringing on affiliates. It's basically coaching. It's business coaching uh for a very specific niche. And so that's what their business is. It's all about finding people who have goats and who are interested in starting a business or making more money from it, helping them with a structure and all the different things that a farmer might not be super familiar with. To be profitable, we recommend a minimum of 20 goats and 30 to 50 is often ideal.
How much does a goat cost? 75 and $200. That's pretty cheap. I wouldn't mind having a goat. That would be dope. I wonder if I could start a goat grazing business. Let's see. How much does Goats on the Go affiliate cost? I am going to find out how much they make. Man, I love the internet. In 2016, Goats on the Go launched its affiliate program and recruited its first four goat grazing entrepreneurs, paying us $2,000 per year. Goats on the Go has 70 affiliates that are paying at least $2,000 per year. In 2024, they changed their annual license fee to $2,400.
There's also a onetime onboarding fee of $500 and a 2-year minimum commitment. That's over $300,000 in a 2-year period teaching people how to run a goat rental business. What's brilliant about this model is that they've taken a business that traditionally only existed offline and monopolize search results so they get a piece of the entire pie. But his business model has one big weakness, and it's an opportunity they haven't tapped into yet. In fact, I saw a lot of different opportunities here that gave me a crazy idea. I'm going to send them an email. I I feel like I have to buy it or at least try.
Interested in selling your site. Hi there. I think you've built a great site and am interested in taking over. Are you open to discussing the sale of hiregoats.com and send? Now, I just had to wait for his response. But while we wait, let's talk about how they can double their revenue. Here's what I think that they can do way better. Yeah. So, I think the first thing I would do is to completely revamp the UX here. Like, it's really tough to know what they're doing. But the reason why this web page exists is for their customers, for their training clients.
And so, I would make it much better to actually help boost business for them. Uh, and that really comes down to user experience. They already have all the traffic in the world. But like, as a first-time user coming to the site, I didn't really know what to do. Like even if I go hire goats in the US, like why do they have one from Massachusetts if there's nothing in here? Why aren't they double promoting their their affiliates on goats on the go? So that is definitely something that I would do. Now, in terms of the monetization aspect, I think that there's actually a lot of room for growth here to even double their income.
So, first of all, I would increase prices because the service that they're offering is basically the lifeblood to these businesses. I would imagine on the goats on the go site, they get a landing page, but like I would really want to beef these up. I would really want to make a great experience for these people so that they can truly just focus on their business. As a result of that, the owners of Goats on the Go can actually charge more. I would be charging at least double bringing people on for 5,000. In terms of additional monetization, I would look at hiregoats.com.
And I don't know why they're giving people free promotion here. I don't know why they're not promoting their goats on the go people who are actually paying them money for it. That to me seems like a missed opportunity and you could technically charge additional to be listed on both directories as opposed to giving it to everyone else for free. So I would probably start there. So another thing that I think they should do is they should be looking for other keyword opportunities where they can rank and attract their potential customers. So if we look at keywords explorer and I'm going to just try to find ideas that their client's target audience would be interested in.
Okay, so something like what do goats eat? What we know about the person searching for this is that they own a goat. Maybe they own a lot of goats. By attracting 6,700 monthly searches, they're attracting a ton more business who they can then try and funnel into their whole affiliate program, make another 2400 to 5 grand off of that person. I would be creating blog content on what goats eat, why do goats faint. These are all queries that you can find using a keyword research tool. This could easily be turned around into 400 to $500,000 a year.
So yeah, I really hope that they're going to sell this to me. Man, I really hope I get the site. So, did he respond? No. Radio silence. But that's not the point. The real lesson here is in the takeaways. And there are two huge ones here. Number one, if you operate a business that's traditionally done offline, there's likely a huge opportunity for you online because there's probably little to no competition. And I can bet you that people are searching for your products and services every single month. Takeaway number two, one person's trash is another person's treasure.
The commerciality of a keyword depends largely on what you're selling, not the keyword you're trying to rank for. Renting a goat isn't a super lucrative keyword, but higher goats and goats on the go aren't actually selling goat rentals. They're selling business training and that makes their keyword rankings lucrative because their customers want those rankings for their business which they can buy for a small price. Ranking in Google is a super valuable way to drive customers to your business. And if you want to learn how you can do it, then watch our free SEO course for beginners right here on
