constantly keeping up with AI is keeping you poor
Chapters6
The chapter highlights how closer involvement with AI often increases stress and anxiety, despite being at the forefront of the field, and shares a personal approach to finding calm and enjoying the rapid progress.
Even experts feel overwhelmed by AI—focus your goals, niche down, and treat AI tools as a business operating system, not a perpetual news chase.
Summary
Liam Ottley blasts the paradox that the deeper you go into AI, the more stressed you become. He cites Andre Karpathy and others feeling behind, illustrating how rapid abstractions and news cycles amplify anxiety. Ottley argues the cure isn’t more chasing of latest releases, but clarity about your goals—money, career, or philanthropy—and trimming your information diet to support those aims. He recommends stopping or reducing AI-news consumption, tuning the learning to your destination, and embracing a pragmatic path like niching down with Claude Code AI operating systems. The video emphasizes an AI agency model focused on transforming businesses with a structured operating system, audits, integrations, and scalable automation. Ottley also encourages gratitude for being alive during the singularity and stresses the value of historical patterns to forecast durable opportunities. He ends by pointing viewers to his prior content on selling Claude Code AI OS and the concept of an unfair advantage audit to identify your strongest niche. This is a call to act with intention, not panic, in a time of unprecedented technological velocity.
Key Takeaways
- Clarify your goal before consuming more AI news: money, business growth, or impact determines how much news you actually need to absorb.
- Focus on niching down with Claude Code AI operating systems to build scalable, repeatable services rather than chasing broad, hype-driven trends.
- Offer a concrete AI transformation package to businesses: an audit, AI OS setup, integrations, and rapid deployment for measurable impact.
- An unfair advantage audit helps identify the best niche tied to your background and access, making your AI business more defensible.
- The path to $5K, $10K, or $20K per month can be found by narrowing scope and becoming the expert in a high-value domain.
- Reduce AI-news intake and replace it with history and biographical business content to understand long-term patterns and avoid FOMO.
- Claude Code and AI operating systems represent a practical current-wave to operationalize AI in businesses, not just theorize about it.

So the paradox of AI is that the closer you are to it, the deeper in the industry you are, the more stressful it is. This is evident in guys like Andre Karpathy who literally invented the term vibe coding. One of the founders of open AI, one of the foremost AI researchers and developers on the planet recently was saying that he feels way behind and he's never felt more behind as an engineer and it's all about these abstractions and workflows and all of this really complex stuff that he feels that even himself at the tip of the spear is not even able to really keep up on it.
and he's looking at guys like Peter Steinberger, the openclaw founder, and these other people in his industry who are really really sharp on it. I think it's a really interesting paradox that the the deeper you are into this technology, the the more it seems to stress you out and the more the news cycle seems to stress you out. So, I know this is pretty prevalent and common. I hear about it all day every day. And I wanted to make this video to give you guys a bit of a read on why I think a lot of you well the solution to that kind of anxiety and why you guys end up in that position basically um and how I've been able to kind of navigate through that and be able to sort of zen out and be able to enjoy this stuff.
We are witnessing the singularity right in front of us and somehow we're still managing to be upset and stressed and worried and it's just such a waste. It is such a waste of this incredible time that we are alive and for us to be in the mix in the industry uh playing around with these tools all day every day. The first thing I want to point out to you guys is that the reason you guys are feeling stressed is because you are trying to frantically keep up on a technology that is rapidly advancing. And what you need to realize is like you need to tune into what are you actually trying to get out of this.
Are you trying to make money? Are you trying to build a career? Are you trying to do some sort of philanthropic thing or like make make a difference and like open source projects or like you need to figure out what you actually are trying to do here? Because once you know what you're trying to do like once you've set the destination you know where to sell to and in this case if your purpose is to make money is to build a business is to start some sort of AI agency like many of you OGs on this channel have been doing then you need to get clear about how much of this AI news you actually need to absorb.
uh because I've been saying for a very long time and I even made a video a very long time ago saying like I don't watch AI news and in that in that video I went into saying how it's actually detrimental to me and my my peace and focus as a business owner by being stuck in those AI news cycles and we're just in the absolute like whirlpool washing machine of it right now with the Claude code stuff at the moment and it's just it's just our little caveman monkey brains are not wired to be able to deal with this amount of information at this rate through algorithms that have laser beam targeted on our most susceptible areas.
These algorithms have been tuned to attack your brain. And if you play into that, if you keep clicking on the videos of all of the AI news and the this stuff and that stuff, you're just going to keep getting hit with what gives you the biggest emotional response, which is often fear-based or FOMO based videos. And so, I've been able to tune my algorithm to like history podcasts and stuff, which just has like completely pulled me out of that out of that race. And I'm at peace with that because I know where I'm trying to go.
And that's what I want to sort of communicate to you guys is that what I said in that in that video about like I've stopped watching AI news and you should too is that if you're trying to make money, if you're trying to build a business, if you're trying to sell AI services or solutions, the tech is racing off at such a rate, but like the stuff that we had in 2024 is still not implemented in businesses. And I will say there is a point now with this new claude code stuff and the approach of sort of an AI operating system which I've been talking about which does definitely bring it into a different era.
But just taking say like a really big and valuable chunk of this new stuff that's come out and gone hey I think there's some sort of offer around selling claude code AI operating systems to businesses which is what I talked about in my last video. You guys can go check that out. But let me just kind of block out a bunch of the news. I know I'm going to get the stuff working for myself. I'm going to uh then try to take it to market. I'm going to try to niche down. And that's really a key point that I want to make here is that taking this stuff that is that is racing off into the distance and being intentional and saying, "Look, there is enough opportunity here for me to make 5, 10, $20 million.
If I just focus on this, I can block out all the other noise." And I just think a lot of you guys are really stressed and anxious because that comes from a decision not being made. If you're stressed about uh a relationship, if you're stressed or anxious about a big decision or a change in your life or for me, I was really stressed. I was sort of anxious about my my choice when I decided to stop drinking. It was it was really making me stressed and anxious about like, oh, should I do it? You're ing and about it.
And a lot of you guys are ing anding about what to do with your business or what to do with your future, what to do with this AI stuff that's going on. And I can promise you that there is a ton of relief after you make that decision. like when I decide to stop drinking, when I decide to like say end a relationship that wasn't meant for me, there's a lot of relief immediately after that. And so, going back to what I said about goals, you guys need to figure out what your goals are. What are you trying to do?
Is it a is it 10K per month? Is it 100k per month? Are you trying to build a freaking billion dollar company here uh like I am? Then you need to be clear about that and realize like let's let's roll this back and like first principles thinking it like let's get clear on what do I actually need out of this is it 10k a month is it 100k per month do I need to be in the new cycle do I need to be giving away my piece and focus rather than like a lot of people are doing right now is saying the text there I'm just going to sort of bundle it up and start applying it to an industry guys the opportunity now is not to keep chasing the dragon it is to take what is there right now, this new wave of claw code kind of operating systems and figure out how to niche it down, how to become niche experts and say like there's a few different ways you can do it and I talked about it in my last video, but you can go to businesses as an agency and this is a big question and and where I see the AI agency space going is the best model still to go to businesses and to offer them services and say, "Hey, I'm going to be your AI transformation partner.
I'm going to go and do an audit and then I'm going to build out your automations. I'll set up an AI operating system and we'll sort of contextualize it and do all your integrations, roll these automations and agents out really quickly. Or do you flip it on its head and say, "Hey, look, instead of trying to like jam this stuff onto the business, why don't I maybe go and and look at at partnering with someone who runs a cleaning company and say, "Hey, look, I want to start up the AI first version of you of your business.
I want to take everything that you know about how you operate your company right now and we're going to set up a new model where we're going to run it and build it from the ground up with these kinds of AI tools with an AI operating system with as many AI agents and automations as possible because it we're getting to the point now where there's so much debt and there's so much bureaucracy and and just human issues to deal with in a given company that it's going to be easier in some cases and I think as we progress to just start the AI first version of the company with help from someone who actually knows what they're Um, and so that's what I mean by taking, say if you're an AI agency and you've been building along and doing the sort of AI operating system stuff that I've been talking about and sort of it's all over the internet right now.
Uh, the open claw, the the cla code stuff, take that and go and say, hey, I'm going to decide that this niche or this industry or this particular type of business or this problem is what I'm going to solve. And I know it's not rocket science, but niching down, but I'm I'm saying that the time to niche down is now, guys. It's time to look at a set of problems and block out the rest of the noise and say this is what I am going to solve. Become the expert in that. We have now so much compounding benefits in solving a set of problems with say a claude code AI operating system.
Once you have that wrapped around the business, the transferability is is ridiculous. It's it's asking Claude to like bundle this up to pass it off to the next business and to load it up and and basically adjust the template, do the different integrations. Interesting thing on the other side of that is that being a general agency is getting a lot easier because the development is becoming a lot easier. But if it's easy to run a general development company now think how easy and scalable that niched agency will be. And I'm seeing examples in my community of people that I'm even here in Bali with who have fully systemized delivery of their niched AI service or offer and it is quite literally a slashimplement or slashd deliver and claude code will go and do it for you.
So, I see so much potential in people like yourself blocking out the noise and saying, "This is something I'm passionate about, or this is something I've done well before. This is something I have good access to." Do another audit. Do your unfair advantage audit that I've talked about for so long. See if I can link the the video. The best the best niche for you is the one that you have an unfair advantage. And that's what life and that's what business is about. So, guys, pause for a second. Firstly, freaking turn that frown upside down, brother, because we're living through the singularity.
We're living through such an incredible time. Be freaking grateful that you're alive now and you're not a peasant walking around raking the dirt and hoping that some uh a bunch of knights don't come over and murder you or the barbarians don't come over the over the ridge and murder you as well. Like guys, we need to be grateful of just how fortunate we are to have this stuff. Not only to have a roof over our head and have food on the table, but to be able to have a computer and in my case a camera and a mosquito as well.
Um, but to be able to do this stuff like it's it's like we are living an incredible human experience here and there's just such a big blank canvas waiting for you to paint on it. But if you're standing back the whole time and trying to look around at the whole canvas, you're never going to be able to step up there and actually paint your piece of it and like make that your own. So, I've been going through it. Everyone's going through it, guys. But, I just wanted to make this video for you to sort of share how I'm dealing with the intensity of the space right now.
To just end off actually I want to kind of point out a bit of strategy around how to choose and find your big thing. Uh whether it is the unfair advantage route like I've mentioned and I'll link a video that breaks that down as a resource with it. But there's also just looking at the big trends guys like if you can just pick a big trend there are some enormous ones. Look at history study history. Take an hour out of your day 2 hours at least. I heard a good rule recently from a podcast that I've been applying to my life which is predictions and future facing content is often wrong.
So all of the stuff you're listening to, all of the future predictions, all of this this this is just like it's most likely wrong and it's just stressing you out. So instead of listening to every single person's prediction under the sun, and I'm not I'm not a saint in terms of making predictions. Everyone loves to make god predictions and I think it is necessary. But balance out your diet, your information diet between like, okay, maybe I'll listen to one pod or one video about the future and like sort of someone taking their stab in the freaking dark about where it's going and then I'm going to listen to I I recommend the acquired podcast is great.
just like 4-hour long things talking about the best businesses in history and figuring out how they got to the point that they were. Listening to autobiographies or biographies of the greatest people who ever lived and business people and listening to like history podcast like that stuff will actually be extremely valuable for you in seeing the big picture and I usually don't like to talk about the stuff cuz it's kind of like my secret source and that I am able to sort of see these trends and that's how I spotted like the AI automation agency thing.
So stop watching so much prediction and future focused content. Start listening to more history because you will understand the patterns in society and culture and uh war. And once you understand those and and technology most importantly once you start to understand those and you can thread things through you can look ah okay so this is the way we're trending and then when you come to make your bet or niche down and you say well I know now that in 5 or 10 years this thing this particular thing is going to be enormous if I can just get in it and I can stick in it and I can make my own brand and business in it then there's no way I will ever go hungry and I will hit these goals that I set for myself.
know history unfair advantage. Unplug a bit. Change information diet because you should be happy. You should be really enjoying this stuff, guys. And you have to just carve out a little bit of peace for yourself. Um, and yeah, I'm I'm rooting for you guys as as you know. Um, and yeah, what a time to be alive. If you want to watch my video that I just did uh earlier this week or a week ago on how to sell AI operating systems, Claude Code AI operating systems, kind of the current meta of where I'm seeing retainers and like setup fees and flyyous and best way to set them up.
Do you do training? Do you do full remote installs? There's so much strategy around how to best sell and monetize the cla code stuff at the moment. I'll link that video up here. But that is all for the video, guys. Thank you so much for watching.
