Hello friends. So, I am obsessed with the show The Pit. And I'm actually from Pittsburgh. So, every time they mention something on the show that references the city that I'm from, I legit freak out. They're headed east towards Monrova. Monroeville. Now, I'm back home in Pittsburgh visiting my family, and I thought it'd be really fun to show you some of my favorite places and favorite references from the show. Now, behind me is the hospital where this entire show takes place. This is the Alageney General Hospital which is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, not Hawaii. But on the show, it is the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. And behind me is the entrance where you see Robbie enter. You see the doctors come and go. It's kind of crazy because in the show there's an emergency medical sign above it. And in real life, there isn't one. Now, while most of the show is actually shot in a sound stage in Los Angeles, some of the hospital exteriors, the helellipad shots are shot on location. Most importantly though, the opening for the season 2 where Robbie is riding his motorcycle into work is set to the iconic Pittsburgh band, The Clarks. This had me absolutely out of my mind. This is such a great shot because it really gives you an incredible view of Pittsburgh with views from PNC Park, the Bridges, and all of downtown. So, here's the entrance to the hospital. Then, across the street, there's a little park with benches. And I believe this is where they do their end of the season celebration, and also where the street team goes to help some of the unhoused patients. Shouldn't we go to the crosswalk? No. There's a lot of benches to choose from. And now for some more mentions from the show that might only mean something to us locals. In season 1, Dana mentions, "This is a hospital, not River's Casino." And here it is. Rivers Casino. I've lost a lot of money on roulette here. Giant Eagle. This is our local grocery store. And I about hit the floor when I first saw someone in the waiting room in season 1 wearing a Giant Eagle employee uniform. It was subtle, but it did not go without notice. They also had a verbal Giant Eagle mention in season 2 episode 8 where a patient could working at the cashier at Giant Eagle. I also have some really fond childhood memories of coming here and getting a free sugar cookie after school for brothers. Now, you can't come to Pittsburgh without someone telling you that you have to eat here. It's the local hot spot, especially after a late night out in Southside. In season 1, episode 6, the staff can be seen eating these famous sandwiches in the break room. Hey, if you're hungry, there's permanis in the staff lounge. Southside is one of the highest concentrations of bars per capita in the United States. And I'd like to say that I have a lot of fond memories here, but to be honest with you, they're a little bit hazy from the college days. In one of the more recent episodes in season 2, they also made a reference to Southside as a location for an ice field office, which is in fact a real place. Mr. Rogers had a few nice mentions in season 1 when a patient worked as a set designer on the show. Mr. Rogers, a television program. That's right. here in Pittsburgh. Got WQED on Fifth A. There's a Mr. Rogers exhibit downtown at the history museum that has a lifelike Mr. Rogers statue. There's set pieces and there's props from the show. If you didn't know, Mr. Rogers was shot and filmed right here in Pittsburgh. Also, fun fact, Mr. Rogers and I, we have the same birthday. Iron City Beer also got a mention in season 1, episode 15 when they cracked open cans to celebrate the end of their shift. Now, you can't drink in Pittsburgh without sports, and there are a ton of these references throughout the two seasons. Now, my favorite reference was the branding of the Penguins family crest because it is just so absolutely unhinged that I would not put it past someone here doing that. There's so many more references to pick from like Langden and his Penguins hat. Crosby the dog, even though it was about another Crosby. This must be Crosby. Roberto Clemente. Sorry, I I don't know who that is. Pirates Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente. You watch baseball. Well, I'm from Nebraska. Louis job that I won't mention because it's a spoiler. and all of the madeup baseball scenarios with the Pirates that had Pittsburgers raging because of its inaccuracies. Anyone got a score for the Pirates game? They're up by two at the bottom of the first. I'm crushing an apple taco. It's okay. I'll let it slide because they also mentioned Kennywood. Becca, Mel's sister said that she loved going to Kennywood. I mainly do what my sister likes. Um, she loves Kennywood and the zoo. I'm not going there today cuz I'm going to a Pirates game. And I actually can't say that I've been to Kennywood in over 20 years, but maybe my next trip home. It's our local theme park with a classic rides like the Jack Rabbit, the Thunderbolts, and let's not forget the Log Jammer. Say goodbye to Log Jammer. An iconic Kennywood ride takes its final punch. Another reference that about took me out is the lantern flies mention. Any word on what's going on with West Bridge? I got 20 on lantern flies. I was actually in town last year filming for something else the same time that they were here filming the exteriors for the pit, and the city was completely overtaken by these little flying monsters. They get squished all over the sidewalks. They have no spatial awareness, so they just kind of like fly right into your face. Get rid of them. If you know, you know. The Strip District has been going through a huge revitalization over the last 20 years. But one spot that has been a staple is Woolly's Fish Market with it mentioned in season 1 episode 10, but Langden called it Holies, where we here say Woolly's. You think Holies will still be open by the time we get off? Yeah. No. No. I was hoping to surprise Abby and the kids grilled some salmon for dinner. You may have got away with criminal activity in the ER, but this is something that you may never recover from in the eyes of a Yinszer. I've actually never been into Woolly's. I think today's the day. And last, but not least, is Pamela's Diner. This is also in the Strip District, and there's a bunch of other locations as well. This is kind of a selfish addition because I really just want to eat breakfast here. Season 2, episode 2, a patient came in with respiratory issues due to some broccoli that was lodged in their throat after eating breakfast at Pamela. But there is no broccoli here, only their famous crepe style pancakes. This is what you get for eating broccoli for breakfast. Look how good. And those are just a few of my favorite references so far from the pit. If you're from Pittsburgh, what are some of your other favorite references that you've seen from the show? Let me know in the comments below. Mine's Saras. They have not mentioned Saras yet. No. Saras season 3. I'm petitioning. Saras season 3.
