Summary

Income stream surfers’ host dives into Cursor’s latest offering, focusing on a free access tier and the potential of Composer 2.5. The creator demonstrates starting from a free account, noting he isn’t paying anything initially and even mentions a tiny usage cost later (57 cents spent on a session). He experiments with what could be Composer 2.5, compares it to other models, and details how fast the coding tasks complete. A key moment is upgrading to test Composer more definitively, then switching back and forth between models to measure speed and price. He critically questions model identification, highlighting Cursor’s auto-model behavior and the lack of explicit model info on some screens. Throughout, he praises Cursor’s browser tools, cheap per-website costs, and the possibility of running tasks quickly without breaking the bank. The video blends personal experience with practical tips—how to verify model status, how to manage usage, and how the free plan can still yield meaningful results. In sum, the video positions Cursor as a bold, affordable option for developers curious about fast, cheap AI-assisted coding, while acknowledging some transparency gaps in the UI.

Key Takeaways

  • Cursor offers free access to its models, allowing users to start coding without an upfront payment.
  • Highlighting Composer 2.5 as a fast, cost-effective model, the host reports quick task completion and strong performance when testing it on Cursor.

Today, I'm going to be talking about Composer 2.5. This is a very interesting update from Cursor, but not only that, I'm going to be talking about Cursor in general, and the reason is is I just discovered you can use Cursor completely for free. Now, I'm someone who loves gorilla tactics like trying to use things for free to build this, that, and the other. So, in today's video, we're going to be talking about Cursor. So, the reason I decided to download Cursor was to try Composer 2.5. Now, I can't absolutely guarantee that this model is Composer 2.5. The reason being is it doesn't let me select it, right? It just says upgrade to pro. Uh so, I'm on auto. I have a feeling this is Composer 2.5. That was extremely fast, but just, you know, if someone leaves a comment below saying you weren't even using Composer 2.5, this is why, okay? Because I'm not actually 100% sure whether I'm using it. But, that's not really the point here. The point is that this is a completely free account, right? I'm not paying for anything here. Anything that gives my viewers free access to their models is a win for me. So, you can actually see how much you've spent uh right here, right? So, I've spent 57 cents, which is included in my usage. I really, really wish I knew which model this was for sure, but like I said, it just says auto. So, I'm not really sure how to how to check this. But, I will say that's the wrong screen. Ignore that, guys. I will say that that was incredibly fast. Please get this site running. And one thing that the new Composer model is known for is fast, accurate, and very, very cheap coding. Now, obviously, everyone knows that this is just Kimmy 2.5. No one, leave that comment, all right? Everybody knows it's Kimmy. All right? Stop Ah, God, some people in this space are so annoying. Like, they feel the need to just put people down. We know it's Kimmy, all right? That doesn't mean it's not good, right? A trained Kimmy by Cursor, which is a billion-dollar company, to make a cheap model for them to use internally is very, very interesting, right? Now, I want you to note this was built completely for free, and it has this really, really nice didn't even know about this, guys. I haven't used Cursor in years, literally. I haven't used Cursor in like a year. Um it's got this really nice browser tool right here. So, I'm just going to press through, click through a few things. This looks pretty good. It does look like Kimi 2.5, to be honest with you. Um but yeah, I mean, this is pretty damn good, honestly. I'm glad they used Kimi and not something else. This might be um Composer 2, by the way. I'm not sure if they've swapped over. I might just say like, "What model are you? Can you tell me exactly?" I wonder if I can get it to tell me. Probably not. But um and I probably wouldn't even believe whatever it says here. But just generally speaking, okay, it just broke. I wouldn't say that the point of this is um necessarily the new model, right? It's the fact that you can use it completely I don't get reliable usable visibi- visible exact underlying model for the session. Okay, let's see if we can find anything about it being the new underlying auto model. Okay, so nowhere does it say that this is their new default model or anything like that. So, I'm not 100% sure. I have to say this completed a fairly complicated task in probably what was under, I would say, 5 minutes, which means it it it is a very, very fast model. It looks like we've got 200,000 context. It looks like Kimi 2.5 has 262K. So, I can't confirm whether I'm using um the new model, right? But just so you know, you can go and download Coast Cursor. I wasn't even logged in when I started this, and you can use it completely for free. Now, I don't know how generous their free limits are, but you can see in the bottom left I am on the free plan, right? I would love it if I could see like usage here and like how much usage I have left and stuff. I would also love it if they would just tell me what model I'm using, like even if it's auto, like at least tell me. I I think I'm That's kind of rude from Cursor to to not even tell me what I'm using, but that's okay. So we have tools and MCPs on the side here, really interesting. We have rules, skills, sub agents, which I can test very, very soon, especially once I know for sure that I'm using the new composer model. Okay, so what I'm actually going to do is I'm going to upgrade. Just so that you know, you can use Cursor for free, but because I'm trying to make a video about composer, I'm going to upgrade so that we can test composer for sure. Okay, so that's definitely interesting. You can actually switch accounts and still have Okay, that was unexpected. Still have the same conversation from before. Okay, so I've now selected the composer 2.5 model. Let's just do the exact same from prompt from before and we'll see how this does. So I'll just press enter here. Uh actually, wait, let me just do new agent um Let's do open folder, new folder. 2.5 composer fast, let's call this, and then open. And then there we go. Let's set that. Let's just check I'm not dying here. Okay, now this is definitely different model. Holy crap, this thing flies. Okay, so let's see how this compares to whatever the hell I was using before. What I was using before was completely free, which is obviously a huge plus in my eyes, like to give completely free access to anyone and everyone to just download Cursor and start coding immediately. I think it's number one, very smart from Cursor because obviously they're going to get people into their ecosystem. Number two, it's really already generous, and it means that you can today go and build for free with Cursor, which is massive. I have just paid $20 because I'm specifically trying to make a video about Composer 2.5. I am talking at the same time just to kind of show you guys how ridiculous this actually is. Um I Well, it's It's so fast. This might be my new go-to model for certain things. Not for like long builds or complicated builds or anything like that, but if I need to, for example, use a very, very cheap, quick model like Gemini Flash, for example, which was my previous go-to model, I now can I I I can now use this. I love what Cursor's doing, right? They're taking a really bold step here in releasing models, which, you know, releasing models in 2026 is really, really complicated because you're going to get flamed to absolute right? If it's not good, right? Okay, so this model, however, is actually a pretty damn good model from them. So, shout out to Cursor. Really, really good job. Allowing people to code for free, first of all, and then allowing people to code for cheap, second of all, is a huge plus from me. Now, this is now finished. Just before we jump into this, guys, I'm not a Cursor fanboy at all. I I haven't used Cursor for bloody ages, to be honest with you. Um let's just have a look how much usage I've used. So, 0.5% of my usage for one website, right, is extremely good. It's extremely fast. My camera, unfortunately, froze before, so I had to kind of restart the recording here, but let's just have a little look here. So, let's just open this up. This is the Italian version of the website. Um I mean, I wouldn't say it's as good as this This isn't my first time seeing this, by the way, guys. My my camera froze before, so I had to restart the recording. But want people to know that, like, I haven't used cursor since 2024. So like when I say this is good or bad, it's not because I hate cursor or don't hate cursor. I don't use cursor, right? So let's just have a look. This is one of the biggest problems is when you click the EN it 404s if you're not on the homepage. That's okay. Actually Opus 4.7 makes the same mistake. I would say it's not that beautiful of a website to be honest with you, but it it's not bad at all. It's as good as, you know, Kimi 2.6 for example and it's getting there for sure. Um and just the fact that it was this fast is a massive massive plus and also this cheap. The cost of this website was 1% of $20. So what is that? Yes, I did just Google that. So it's 20 cents, right? For this website. So I mean that's pretty damn good in terms of usage. Um so this was the composer 2.5 fast. And yeah, I mean it cursor's got this really nice browser feature as well. Um they're they're all kind of starting to Codex, Claude, Antigravity and this are all starting to kind of look the same. I don't I don't know if people have noticed that. Is this even an IDE anymore? Where is the code? What is going on? I don't know. Weird. I thought this was more for developers, but obviously uh obviously not. Maybe I'm in the wrong section or something, but anyway, uh overall really really good build. Technical build is pretty much perfect. It's got a really nice variety of what we call or what I call horizontal like panels or blocks. It's done a very very good job. It's followed the prompt extremely closely. It was very cheap, very fast, and you can use cursor completely for free as of today. You don't even have to pay to use it. You can just use the auto option, which is a huge plus for me. Go and try and build something today, guys, using cursor for free. Let me know how it goes in the comments. But this is a huge update from these guys over at Cursor. Shout out to them because this is a bold move and they've done it well enough to get people to start to use this model, I would say. What does this do? Design. Add a highlight around this. Does this work? Probably. Again, guys, I I I don't use Cursor like at all. Um so I'm just kind of trying to Oh, yeah, bang. Look at that. So, I'm I'm just kind of getting there right now and starting to use it. And I have to say, I'm pretty impressed by it. I can see why it's a billion-dollar company, honestly. But yeah, guys, I think I'll leave the video there. Uh thank you so much for watching. If you are watching all the way to the end of the video, you're an absolute legend and I'll see you very, very soon with some more content. Peace out.
