The host discusses Akali's announcement, initial impressions, and her striking visual design.

Akali steals the show in 2XKO with lightning-fast mobility, Twilight Shroud mechanics, and flashy specials that redefine pressure in this fighter.

Summary

Maximilian Dood dives into Akali’s 2X KO debut, teasing how the League-inspired ninja brings speed, teleport gimmicks, and a unique smoke mechanic to the fighting game. He highlights Akali’s two movement tools—a teleport that can be canceled into Twilight Shroud and a wall jump variant—making her a slippery, mixup-heavy threat. The Twilight Shroud mechanic, activated by holding S2 or certain attacks, powers up moves and creates a challenging pseudo-projectile that drains the opponent’s options when paired with Akali’s kunai and shuriken projectiles. Max calls out the character’s “dank smoke” visuals and notes how her specials encourage aggressive approach and creative setups, including a full-screen shuriken projectile into Twilight Shroud. He also discusses her low health, positioning her as a “chip” character in an environment where burst windows and escapes matter, and tosses around potential tag-team synergies with champions like Ahri or Yasuo to maximize mixups. Overall, Akali looks like one of the most visually striking and mechanically dense fighters in 2X KO, with a design that rewards aggressive, telegraphed pressure and clever use of Twilight Shroud. Maximilian muses about color palette options (Lin Kurasawa or Strider-inspired schemes) and teases April 7th release alongside Guilty Gear 2.0 and Invincible Versus. The video blends commentary on gameplay dynamics with a few light thoughts on the storytelling approach in 2X KO’s marketing material.

Key Takeaways

  • Akali is the fastest character shown so far and uses a double-jump and wall-jump to create constant pressure.
  • Twilight Shroud is a central mechanic: summoning a black smoke cloud that enhances specials and lets Akali cancel teleports for high/low mixups.
  • Her S2 meter enables a ground bounce and a teleport-into-S2 combo, making her combos extendable and aggressive.
  • Akali’s S1 super and kunai-focused S1 follow-ups allow long-range harassment and teleport-assisted mixups.
  • Team-up potential is strong: pairing Akali with Ahri or Yasuo can amplify cross-assist pressure and keep opponents guessing.
  • Her health is relatively low, making her a chip-friendly/pressure-heavy archetype rather than a pure brawler.
  • Visuals and animation sell Akali as a standout: dynamic moves, expressive idle animations, and a distinctive, high-top ninja silhouette.

Who Is This For?

This video is essential for fighting-game fans who want in-depth, hands-on impressions of Akali in 2X KO, especially players curious about high-mobility ninjas, Twilight Shroud mechanics, and team synergy with champions like Ahri or Yasuo.

Let's go. Akali got announced. I was just thinking about this. I'm like, man, when's that chick coming out? Is this character dropping literally when the invincible beta in Guilty Gear 2.0? Oh god. Yes. Is it a couple days before? Please, God, no. God, why? Here is the uh KI trailer for 2X KO. Easily one of the more anticipated characters I have seen in the entire game. All right, let's check it out. A member of the king crew joining a disgraced swordsman. I couldn't care less about your honor as long as you fight for what's right. Damn, I love how expressive she is. Holy crap. Then I wouldn't be much of an ass. Oh my god, she gets the red ranger dash dash. She can sandwich. She can easily sandwich, bro. Oh, wait. Maybe not. Command grab super. One step further. I like her poofy hair. It offers cool secondary animation. You didn't really think you could beat me, did you? Wait. Wait. Smoke is a mechanic. That is a lot of dank smoke. Ready? Smoke's a mechanic. FINISHING SMOKE that here. Wow. That is really sick. That is really sick. It's been a while since I had this much fun. Ready? That's one of her League mechanics. What's League? This is 2X KO. Nothing to do with League of Legends. It's not in the title. Hostiles. We're going to have our ground. You stand your ground and I'll take care of the rest. Dude, she has like a bike and uh Chinese finger trap grapple. You won't escape. This is your execution. Find balance. I love how expressive she is. Change. Time to act. Bro, if they give this chick, just give her a Lin Kurasawa color. Just do it. Just do it. Just give her like a light blue and orange color palette. Just do it. Or a strider color. You know that helps. She has no scarf, dude. They they replaced the scarf with her big poofy ass hair. Well, that's like the most interesting looking character I've seen uh in the game so far, just from like a viewership perspective. Warwick really did a lot for me when he came out, but dude, she seems genuinely very cool. She's pretty boring by League standards. I mean, for the fighting game, she looks pretty neat. I think she looks pretty neat. I'm watching this [ __ ] again. She doesn't She isn't necessarily doing Strider only. She looks kind of is if if anything she reminds me more of um a Jesus Christ who's the red earth ninja guy that had the giant grapple going down theari gama big thing you know one step further just to make range Hanzo is that Hanzo Kenji no it's Kenji to beat me did you Wow Kenji uses this big ass kousari gama type This is a very cool mechanic. Holy [ __ ] I dig that she has teleportation, but it is with a gimmick. Fun. Ready. She really reminds me of like a striderlike, but she's also a high top ninja. Capcom kind of started the high top ninja with guy. There's a little bit of that, right? There's little a little bit of guy uh all over the place in here. Try guessing right now. Ibuki, I hate to break it to you. Um, the only thing I see that's close to Ibuki here is Kunai. We're going to have to stand our ground. Cool. You won't escape. Yeah. A little bit more chip as well, for sure. I like it. fine talent. I think your design looks really good in motion, too. Yeah, people if people aren't against it, I don't have the original. Um, this is from apparently another video game called League of Legends. I don't have the perspective of ever playing that video game. I think it's very unpopular. So, I uh I just think that this looks really good. You know, I think this looks relatively neat. April 7th. Is that what they're saying? We have to wait till April 7th. The good part about April 7th is that she is literally a week away, but she will be two days before Guilty Gear 2.0 and also two days before Invincible Versus. And I'm still debating if I want to try to get top 30 in Invincible Versus. I'm debating. That's going to be a that's going to be tough. 2 days is enough time to like wet my whistle and see if I want to come back or not. We'll find out. I at least want more than a day, dude. I don't want things to happen at the same time. That really sucks. But wet your what, Chad? Never heard the term. Holy [ __ ] I'm turning to dust. Let's check this out. Hold on a second. Akali is a stylish, sharp ninja who rushes down opponents with overwhelming speed and viable mixup. She's a rebellious assassin who left the Kingu order. She's literally a high top ninja to balance in Ionia. Now she eliminates Ionia's enemies her way. Akali is the fastest champion in the game so far, but her health pool is one of the lowest. She uses her speed to rush down opponents and she can quickly capitalize on any weaknesses. Okay. Akali has two unique movement tools. She can double jump at any time and she can wall jump when she has her back to the corner. Makes sense. Akali can cancel any aerial attack into a wall jump. So she'll keep opponents guessing even when she's cornered. Down forward S2 lets Akali teleport forward at a set distance. Oh, she doesn't need the smoke to teleport. Teleport in place, which can fake out the enemy team. Why is this ninja wearing kicks? Have you never played Street Fighter Alpha? Straight down. Improvising with AI teleports. Have you never played Final Fight? Any opponent? Yeah, guys. High top ninja like that. That comes from final fight, dude. That's 1989. Aali special moves give her many ways to approach a fight. Her S1 sweep is focused on the kunai, her knives. Standing S1 lets Aali lunge a great distance with her kunai. If she hits an opponent, press S1 again for a follow-up attack. With down S1, Akali jumps backwards and throws kunai air S1. You know, it's just from a basic standard marketing standpoint. You know what's crazy about all this is that I don't know anything about her. Like every character in this game is literally a function. Like I have no clue what she does, who she is, where she's from, why she does what she do. Does she have enemies in this game, you know? It's like the same thing for every single character that is in 2X K.O. just in general. It's that there's a story to League of Legends and why things are happening the way they are. But in the same way, it's like immediately into gameplay, immediately into like function aspect. There's not much like storytelling going on outside of the fact that she is a fighting game character. That's almost like what her story is. It's like, whoa, that's weird. Use this move to poke from range and control space. Akali's S2s are focused on her Kama, a handheld scythe. Withstanding S2, Akali slashes the space in they said something very brief in the very beginning. She'll drop Twilight Shroud, a cloud of smoke that empowers her other specials. It's just holding S2 will summon Twilight Shroud. It's just a how different this game is. It's a gameplay focused fighting game specifically. You know, Twilight Shroud is a game for fighting game players. We'll get back to it after talking through her supers. Akali's S1 super throws a giant shuriken. It's a full screen projectile that drops Twilight Shroud. Oh, that's good. Akali's S flexible command grab. It can be a great combo ender for damage. or an aggressive wake up option while defending. Again, the terminology used here is funny to me. It's still funny to me that like even when you get like professional videos that are speaking and acting as marketing material, they use terms like wake up options. With Akali's ultimate, she dashes forward with a smoke bomb in hand. On hit, she'll slice up a cool power of smoke before taking them down. Yeah, it's like the same thing for some of those Guilty Gear breakdowns as well. I don't love them. I do not love them. Let's talk more about Twilight Shroud, a unique mechanic for Aali. Again, you can summon a cloud of smoke by hitting a champion with certain moves. I have a funny gripe. This doesn't look like smoke. It looks like exhaust, right? Like this is black smoke. Even when you have like a like a smoke bomb historically or even when like you burn wood. It's like she burned a tire. Like what the heck? It looks like It looks like smog. It's very dark. This is like 1990s era LA smog. It's It's very funny. It looks so dense. It's like they're burning coal in all her special moves get a boost and some gain new properties. S1 backwards before she lunges which can help her dodge something. Wow, that's attack and her opponent. S2 meter and ground bounces the opponent. Charged S2 becomes a command grab. When Aali runs in Twilight Shroud, she can pass through champions. Wow, that's insane. is also immune to projectiles for a very Oh, she can do it so easily, too. If you've got the skill, you can use this to outplay your opponent. And here's something spicy. Twilight Shroud lets Apollie cancel teleports into one another. So, her mixups can be incredibly scary while Smoke is on screen. In general, Akali wants to use her special moves to set up Twilight Shroud. And yeah, she is literally the dankstample of how she can put it together. She should end the match with just soot all over her face and [ __ ] It's a cool looking super. Akali's forward assist throws Kunai over a short distance. Her back assist is an anti-air. Her super assist is a teleport attack that tracks the opponent no matter where they are on screen. Use it to ground bounce and keep up the pressure even when a colle is KO'ed. Damn, that's a Vadra assist. Strength is cracking open an opponent's defense. Pair her with a teammate that can push the mixup potential. Oh my god. If you have a friend who's an Ahri expert, they'll make a great dual partner. With Ari's air dash, your high low mix is incredibly strong. She looks like a mixup monster. like you're getting hit. You can also try teaming up with a Yasuo player. This duo can easily switch sides with hops, dashes, and Akali's teleports, forcing opponents to defend correctly or get dice. So, she's just probably going to do way less damage. I hope she has like 50% health. Did they say that? Aali also fights well with champions that can use their assist to provide cover, like Jinx. Use her back assist to cover Akali while she teleports in or summons Twilight Shroud. Huh? We've covered Oh, she's a Oh, she's a low health character. Okay. Yeah, she's literally chip. I don't know if that's that threatening because this game you get like four bursts per round or some [ __ ] So many opportunities to break out of a combo. I don't know if that's that that's as threatening when you just like reset. Let me do it again. With kunai, comma, shurikens, and smoke in your hand. Strider as well. The only uh the only game that Strider was a really low health character was Marvel Marvel 2. She was a little low health, but not nearly as much as that. I mean, she looks great. She looks really good. Um, she looks really good. I like her animations. I I want to see her alternate colors and her alternate costumes. Dude, if they give this chick like a Strider costume, I'll be inspired. Not an infinite. No, Strider's mostly a normal character in Infinite. The thing is, uh, in MVC1, Strider has normal health. Infinite, he has normal health. He's not that low health of a character. He is like lowish but not like really low like MVC uh MVC3 blood moon bundle was revealed from EVO Japan. Did they already show that? U first comment. I'm not blocking that dude. Yeah, I think she looks great. I want to play more. I want I want to see how she's going to jive with um with Darius most likely. I'll have to see if Warwick's still a character I want to play a lot of. I don't know. Heat.
