Notes that the base game is $30 and discusses the overall scope of an Avatar fighting game at that price point.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game roaster reveal nails a $30 base price, 12 hand-drawn characters, and crossplay across major platforms—with a packed deluxe edition and a season-one plan.

Summary

Maximilian Dood breaks down Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game’s roster reveal, praising the hand-drawn animation and the surprisingly affordable base price of $29.99. He notes the deluxe edition at $50 with digital art book, soundtrack, and extra character colors, plus a season-one bundle of five characters. The roster announcement includes iconic figures like Azula, Ozai, Suki, Saka, Ang, Kor A, and a promised final boss vibe from Ozai, with ongoing discussion about potential DLC characters like Aman, Iro, and Tyle. He highlights that all 12 characters are visible in the trailer and comments on the game’s art direction, frame-by-frame animation, and the absence of tweening in favor of hand-drawn quality. Crossplay is confirmed across Xbox, PS5, Steam, and both Switches, and Maximilian points out the development pedigree—ex-Killer Instinct developers and Marvel mod lineage. He also weighs the game’s price point against the traditional fighter-shoehorned DLC model, arguing that a lower entry price could broaden the fighting-game audience during a tricky global economy. Finally, he projects launch-life dynamics typical to fighting games: quick early buzz, a tapering audience, and ongoing DLC momentum, with Street Fighter 6 serving as a recent point of contrast.Overall, the video frames Avatar Legends as a rare, affordable, high-quality entry into the fighting game scene that could redefine expectations for IP-driven fighters.

Let's go. There's a whole bunch of news on this. The craziest one that I saw is that the game is $30 and we were literally talking about this like yesterday, what the ideal pricing would be for some of these games. How like Invincible Versus is discounted, how even Tokcon is discounted. And now Avatar is a $29.99 game for its base version, which is insanely cool, especially that the PlayStation now costs $30,000. New art, moving my face. Oh, that's a new logo. What the hell? Hey yo. Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm going to have to go back. That was the whole ass It was the whole ass roster. Anything different here? Pretty much the usual, you know, ranked player lobbies. Nice hit boxes. Wow. What the hell? It's samurai. What the [ __ ] is that? Oh no, Saka looks really f Wow, Azula looks cool as [ __ ] cuz she has lightning fire. Wow, she's the jury of the game. Holy hell. Uh, I'm going to have to read this. All right, there's a lot of information there. And also July 2nd. Hey, a good time frame. Am I going on vacation? That time frame. I'm leaving on July 4th, so I'll at least have a few days to enjoy this, man. Oh, man. That that was about to be very scary. Let's go back. What is in here? So, 30 bucks. Incredible. Thank you, Gameplay Group International for doing that. Uh 12 characters, all the stuff we just saw. The deluxe edition is 50 standard edition content, digital art book, music soundtrack, unique HUDs. Yeah. Five characters and additional character colors. Oh, so this just includes the first season, which is going to be five. Five characters in the first season. Holy crap, dude. That's a lot for a 2D game, especially one that's hand freaking drawn. Pre-order bonus exclusive character skin. Samurai Opa. I guess I'll be getting this voting privilege for year one pass character. One character will be chosen. So, four are being worked on, you know, concurrently right now. And then the last one is effectively a Smash pole style character. It's a Smash ball palette. Yeah. The fact that that is a pre-order bonus and not a deluxe edition thing. [laughter] You know, I almost feel like they could have snuck that into the $50 deluxe version and been like, "Hey, so if you give us more money, you pretty much get to kickstart, you know, your character practically or hopefully kickstart your character." Yeah. Who knows how that's going to be. I think I want Aman. Aman's got a cool look to him. Suki would make a lot of sense. But wait a minute, let me go back. Wait a minute. Uh, it's been a long time since I've seen the show because I watched it when it came out. Saka Azula. Wow, they are doing Ozai. Well, that makes sense to me. Ozai makes sense because they need a final boss and we going to need like a juiced out version of Ozai, right? I think this is a pretty good roster. Pissed off evil Avatar Ang. Pissed off evil avatar Kora. Yeah, pretty much Shinang and Shin Kora probably going to be deviants of some of their play style. You know, uh I think it's very convenient that if you add all these up and this and this, it's 12. From my perspective in terms of making a trailer, I would say this is the 12 characters and these two characters back here are the final two that we have not actually seen in game yet. The dev said that all 12 are on the screen. Yeah, I mean that's what I'm pulling out of this. I would like a version of A that uses like all the elements or something like that. Let me go back and look at game who played this. These were the characters we've already seen. New art. This looks great. [screaming] Game looks good. Dude, I find it crazy that like just look at look at where we're at right now, dude. Look at where we're at right now. They could have made any one of those absolute throwaway Avatar games that they've been making for the past 84 years and now they just show up and like we're just going to make the best Avatar game. also looking the most accurate to the show because no other games usually do that. You know, most of them do not hover in that space. Could have gotten an Avatar Arena Fighter by Bamco. Yeah, you could have gotten the guys that made Jump Force to make an Avatar Arena Fighter. Okay, Iro. Yeah, Iro would be good DLC. Aman, there's probably several others. Iro feels like he's a given. Are they going to have Iro just like have a buff install? Tyle, that's a neat one. Oh, have they mentioned anything about the background characters? Can Cabbage Man be an assist? Wow. What the hell is Saka doing? What in the hell? They didn't say anything about new assists. He's a Is he a run character? He is. He's literally running across the screen. He is actually running across the screen. So, is he a run stance character? Where's the new stuff? Yeah. Wow, he looks good. Holy [ __ ] Wow, she looks great. Wow, look how look how pissed and angry she looks. Hell yeah. Oh no. Like all the hyper personality in Azula. Dude, look at some of these frames. Look at some of these frames. Hold up. Hold up. Hand and go damn it. [ __ ] and elbows. Look at all this handdrawn animation, chat. Literally, every goddamn frame made by a human drawn. There's no tweening, brother. Ain't no tween. Damn. Cool. This is great. Damn. I'm in like hand animation heaven with the the gold man game in this. Holy crap. She did have some similar moves to um to Zuko ain't no twins. Yeah, that I in my opinion these guys are doing everything right. Like the only thing that has been rough so far is that not enough people have had a chance to play this. Even my good friend Stephen is like I still haven't played that game. And I'm like, "Actually, you're right. You haven't." Uh, he's And like many others, the beta had a lot of specifics to get into it. And not a lot of invites were sent out because it was a closed beta. At some point, they have to have like a global, you know, at some point they have to have like a beta or something cuz this is out soon, man. This is like four months away. About to be 3 months away. Roll back, crossplay, cheap, 2D fighter. Isn't that everything the FTC asks for? Well, I mean, it's like and also a really good IP and also plays very well. Like, yeah, is kind of satiating. A lot of like there's a reason why most people that even remotely enjoyed fighting games have pretty glowing praise on this [ __ ] when it comes out or when it was first playable because it played really well. Like, it actually was like good. Was it [ __ ] up and busted? Oh, it was. But like the foundation was really good. Dude, here's the problem. I don't like playing this [ __ ] in a bubble. I want other people to see how this is. The biggest reason, chat, that even I was a pro a defender of like free-to-play fighting games was the cost of investment was that fighting games are so goddamn expensive. If you bought any General Bandai Namco game and you entry bought it at entry $60 to $70 and you purchased every season pass DLC for like 4 years, you have spent $200. They are insanely expensive, dude. So, if if anything, when I was trying to propose the defense of why I think there should be freetoplay fighting games without there being mega predatory [ __ ] the whole point of that was I want the barrier of entry to be lower so that people can just get into this stuff and find the fun so that they can eventually fall in love with it. You know what I mean? I do feel that if you have a game that is just a cheaper price point nowadays, that's very appealing, dude. We've seen time and time again games come out and they're just like a little bit cheaper than the really expensive [ __ ] And that suddenly looks real appealing in the current global economy. What's the shelf life of this game, bro? The shelf life of this game is going to be the same as 99% of all fighting games. It'll be really popular in the first month and a half. It'll teeter out like 50 to 70% like every [ __ ] fighting game. And then there will be a subset group of people that are really into this stuff and some people that'll come back for DLC every once in a while. That is every fighting game. The amount of times that that has altered or been different has been like just recently with Street Fighter 6. And Street Fighter 6 is the most unique diamond in the rough because that just doesn't [ __ ] happen to games, bro. Like the nature of 99% of fighting games is that yeah, you know, they're the most popular in the first couple of months or so. That's pretty much it. So, you got to get It's cheap, bro. It's not like you're losing out on money. It's 30 bucks. It's literally $30. So, join us. The launch of the game is going to be wonderful. There's going to be a ton of Avatar fans and [ __ ] All the FGC heads are going to rank up super fast and get away from all like the Avatar fans that are just here to like play a goofy Avatar game and have fun with it and they'll be able to play each other and not have to deal with the FGC nerds. Like, dude, this is it. This is literally what you want. And the the biggest thing that would prevent you from engaging with a fighting game is that in the launch period, it's expensive. You don't want to spend that much on a fighting game. I get it. That makes sense. But it's 30. It's literally like one of the cheapest price points I've ever seen for a fighting game that's actually like pretty well featured. I mean, look at Azula's face. I I would highly recommend it, bro. If you want the opportunity to fight people and and actually get true competition of people that are around your skill range, if you have not really played a lot of fighting games before, then my dude, the launch period is it. It's just going to get harder and harder and harder to get into this [ __ ] I can barely afford fuel in my car. I understand. I understand this game's what, like two gallons of gas now? Cool. Very cool. This is going to be crossplay on Xbox, PS5, Steam, and both the Switches. Holy [ __ ] And it's literally made by the dudes that made all those crazy ass Marvel mods we've been making for years, chat. And ex Killer Instinct devs. Hate to say that I am just behind whatever they do. [laughter] [gasps] You know, they've provided some of my favorite fighting game experiences over the past 10 years. Heat. Heat. [music]
