Appreciate it, guys. Uh, yeah. So, um, in a little bit I'm going to give it a few minutes. We're going to jump on a call with, um, Rip from Quarterup Games. That's the name of their studio, right? It's Quarter Up. And, yeah, we're going to go hands-on with uh, a little bit of Invincible Versus. And, um, we're just going to play some matches. I think the goal of mine is to show off as much of the new stuff as possible, including, which will definitely be including some of the newer characters.
So, I definitely want to play some Conquest and stuff like that. Get some hands-on and uh jump around. We're going to be uh making sure stuff looks good. Last time there was some funky capture thing that happened that made it look not as smooth as it was. So, we'll see what's going on. See exactly what's going on. In fact, let me check this on my end real fast. Let me make sure. Um Akali gameplay now or after. Yeah, I guess we can do that now. I guess we can do that now. Um let's do that right before Yeah, because by the time this is over, we're I'm going to be I might be in here for an hour or two, man. Uh so we'll see. It depends how much time Rip has. I don't want to take up too much of his time as well. My stuff is good. And hold on. There's an AALI breakdown that I should probably check out. Did I see the Mario movie? No. No. I'll see it eventually. Um, yeah, there she is. Champion Spotlight. Aali is a stylish Wow, we're just getting right into it, huh?
We're just leaning right into this thing, are we? Let's check this out. Hold on a second. Akali is a stylish, sharp ninja who rushes down opponents with overwhelming speed and mixup. She's a rebellious assassin who left the Kingu order. She's literally a high top ninja to balance in Ionia. Now she eliminates Ionia's enemies her way. Akali is the fastest champion in the game so far, but her health pool is one of the lowest. She uses her speed to rush down opponents and she can quickly capitalize on any weaknesses. Okay. Akali has two unique movement tools.
She can double jump at any time and she can wall jump when she has her back to the corner. Makes sense. Akali can cancel any aerial attack into a wall jump, so she'll keep opponents guessing even when she's cornered. Down forward S2 lets Aali teleport forward at a set distance. Oh, she doesn't need the smoke to teleport in place, which can fake out the enemy team. Why is this ninja wearing kicks? Have you never played Street Fighter Alpha? Straight down. Improvising with the Kali's teleport. Have you ever played Final Fight? Any opponent? Yeah, guys. High top ninja like that.
That comes from Final Fight, dude. That's 1989. Akali's special moves give her many ways to approach a fight. Her S1 sweep is focused on the kunai, her knives. Standing S1 lets Akali lunge a great distance with her kunai. If she hits an opponent, press S1 again for a follow-up attack. With down S1, Akali jumps backwards and throws kunai. Air S1. You know what's just from a basic standard marketing standpoint, you know what's crazy about all this is that I don't know anything about her. Like she is literally like every character in this game is literally a function, you know?
Like I have no clue what she does, who she is, where she's from, why she does what she do. Does she have enemies in this game? You know, it's like the same thing for every single character that is in 2X KO just in general. It's that there's a story to League of Legends and why things are happening the way they are. But in the same way, it's like immediately into the same thing with the trailer, immediately into gameplay, immediately into like function aspect. There's not much like storytelling going on outside of the fact that she is a fighting game character.
That's almost like what her story is. It's like, whoa, that's weird. That's weird. Use this move to poke from range and control space. Akali's S2s are focused on her Kama, a handheld scythe. Withstanding S2, Akali slashes the space in they said something very brief in the very beginning. She'll drop Twilight Shroud, a cloud of smoke that powers her other specials. It's just holding S2 will summon Twilight Shroud. It's just a how different this game is. It's a gameplay focused fighting game specifically. You know, Twilight Shroud is a fighting game. We'll get back to it after talking through her supers.
Akali's S1 super throws a giant shuriken. It's a full screen projectile that drops Twilight Shroud. Oh, that's good. Akali's Sar is a flexible command grab. It can be a great combo ender for damage. or an aggressive wake up option while defending. Again, the terminology used here is funny to me. Like, it's still it's still funny to me that like even when you get like professional videos that are speaking and acting as marketing material, they they use terms like wake up options. That's funny to me. With Aali's ultimate, she dashes forward with a smoke bomb in hand.
On hit, she'll slice tower of smoke before taking them down. Yeah, it's like the same thing for some of those guilty gear breakdowns as well. I don't love them. I do not love them. Let's talk more about Twilight Shroud, a unique mechanic for a colleague. Again, you can summon a cloud of smoke by hitting a champion with certain moves. I have a funny I have a funny gripe. This doesn't look like smoke. It looks like exhaust, right? Like this is black smoke. Like even even when you have like a like a smoke bomb historically or even when like you burn wood, it doesn't lead to like it's like she burned a tire.
Like what the heck? It looks like it looks like smog. It's very dark. This is like 1990s era LA smog. It's It's very funny. It looks so dense. It's like they're burning coal. Twilight shroud. All her special moves get a boost and some gain new properties. S1 backwards before she lunges which can help her dodge some. Wow, that's attack and her opponent. S2 meter and ground bounces the opponent. Charged S2 becomes a command grab. When Aali runs in Twilight Shroud, she can pass through champions. Wow, that's insane. She's also immune to projectiles. Oh, she can do it so easily, too.
If you've got the skill, you can use this to outplay your opponent. And here's something spicy. Twilight Shroud lets Apollie cancel teleports into one another. So, her mixups can be incredibly scary while smoke is on screen. In general, Akali wants to use her special moves to set up Twilight Shroud and she is literally the dankstable of how she can put it together. She should end the match with just soot all over her face and [ __ ] It's a cool looking super. Akali's forward assist throws Kunai over a short distance. Her back assist is an anti-air. Her super assist is a teleport attack that tracks the opponent no matter where they are on screen.
Use it to ground bounce and keep up the pressure. Eden is KOed. Damn, that's a Vadra assist. Great strength is cracking open an opponent's defense. Pair her with a teammate that can push the mixup potential. Oh my god. If you have a friend who's an Ahri expert, they'll make a great dual partner. With Ari's air dash, your high low mix is incredibly strong. She looks like a mixup monster. Like, you're getting hit. You're getting hit. you can also try teaming up with a Yasuo player. This dude can easily switch sides with hops, dashes, and Akali's teleports, forcing opponents to defend correctly or get dice.
She's just probably going to do way less damage. I'm I hope she has like 50% health. Do they say that? Akali also fights well with champions that can use their assist to provide cover like Jinx. Use her back assist to cover Aali while she teleports in or summons Twilight Shroud. We've covered Oh, she's a Oh, she's a low health character. Okay. Is she the lowest? She's Chip. Yeah, she's literally Chip. That doesn't I don't know if that's that threatening because this game you get like four bursts per round or some [ __ ] right? You get so many bursts like so many opportunities to break out of a combo.
I don't know if that's that that's as threatening when you just like reset. Let me do it again. With kunai, shurikens, and smoke in your hand as well. The only uh the only game that Strider was a really low health character was Marvel Marvel 2. He was a little low health, but not nearly as much as that. I mean, she looks great. She looks really good. Um, she looks really good. Uh, I like her animations. I I want to see her alternate colors and her alternate costumes. Dude, if they give this chick like a Strider costume, I'll be inspired.
Not an Infinite. No, Strider's mostly a normal character in Infinite. The thing is, uh, in NBC1, Strider has normal health. Infinite. He has normal health. He's not that low health of a character. It's like lowish but not like really low like MVC uh MVC 3, you know. Blood Moon bundle was revealed from EVO Japan. Did they already show that? They have to do the K do costume. U first comment. I'm not blocking that, dude. Yeah. Yeah. It's still crazy to me that this game doesn't have like an invincible DP, like a an invincible generic DP that every character can do.
Just be like, get the [ __ ] off me. Leave me alone. Um, you have to just like hold that. You have to hold these mixes, man. You're going to get opened up by this [ __ ] Anyway, yeah, I think she looks great. I want to play more. I want I want to see how she's going to jive with um with Darius most likely. I'll have to see if Warwick's still a character I want to play a lot of. I don't know. Freezer Burn, thank you. Shampooed, Obsidian Steel, Mr. Meowi, Dude, Nitro, Zericho, uh, Pisces Hatter, Ichio, Frosty, Fido, Benzilla, Dark Legion, Demonic Penguin.

So, the the last character that was in the game um outside of the two DLC characters that are showing up uh the last character was Conquest and they had a cool reveal thing that was happening at the EVO Awards for him, which was pretty neat.
So, yeah, I'm kind of just like wanting to uh play the game and show stuff off. I'm going to destroy you Streamlabs. Um, let me go ahead and jump on a call with Rip really quick and we'll go over some stuff and play a couple of matches and show off some of the new characters. Um, hold on a second. Let me do this. Going fantastic. I took a nap, so I'm like wide awake. Yeah, good. That's what happens. Like every time I'm feeling like like down, even like a 15 minute to a 30 minute, I'm like, "Woo, I'm good." Um, exactly. So, I want to give you guys a big congrats before we get started because you guys are like on the cusp of um going gold right now.
So, Oh, yeah. That's crazy. Like, how how long has your involvement been in Invincible Versus from like even the early days? I think it's been uh two years since I first saw the game. Like, right around now, basically. So that was when I was first invited over to Mike's place. He like I didn't know what the game was yet. Oh, that was the recording. Exactly. Yeah. There's a little filming of it where I walk into Mike's place. Uh I think I'm wearing whatever. Doesn't matter what I was wearing. But point is uh I got my first hands on at the game and it was very very early.
It was just two characters just Mark and Beast. I think Adam at the time was like an invisible character. So like see she has projectiles. We're going to have projectiles in the game. But yeah, it's been it's been that long now. And I joined the team officially about a year and a half ago I think. Yeah. So yeah, it's been about that long. Very cool. Um, and yeah, I your your role is effectively a senior character designer. Is that right? Senior combat designer. Combat designer. Okay. So you've you've worked on like individual characters and the overall like general vibe and feel of the game, right?
Exactly. So the characters I've worked on so far have been Rexlode, Robot, and Duplicate. But, you know, obviously there's 18 characters in the game. So we're play testing every day. I'm always, you know, giving feedback for everything else as we have a whole team of designers obviously. Yeah. And that's the the cool part is that like there's also a storyried history with this, you know, somewhat familiar development staff um and me and you because I have to remind people of this because I think not a lot of them know you did the the strategy guide for Killer Instinct.
So, yeah, exactly. We were like trading matches. Exactly. Like we were trading matches a whole bunch like before the game came out to like figure out what's good. Yeah. Yeah, we were part of the focus test team for Killer Instinct back in the day, 2012, 2013, whatever that was. Yep. And then I ended up doing the Prima strategy guide for that game and the Ultra fan book. So that's how I met a lot of the team and then I came back and met them again during Breakaway when they were on the Amazon team and commentator of that game.
And so it was Bow actually who reached out to me that was like, "Hey, we're folks testing a new game. Would you like to come through and see it?" And I had no idea what it was at the time and it ended up being this game. So that's how we got here. Sick. Like that's pretty much how I got, you know, hooked up with KI as well. It's pretty funny. Uh time is a flat circle. I'm going to go ahead and end uh fire up the game. I think the the best thing or the thing I wanted to do first was just show off um Conquest and have you sort of guide me through unique and cool things that he can do um and what his gimmicks sort of are.
And I'll I'll do like a screen share with you right now and I'll we'll be making sure this all this stuff looks good uh just to be sure. And uh after that, I'll kill the screen share and if matchmaking is up and running on here, then we'll just like matchmake and try to play some of the newer characters. I definitely want to play Conquest and like Allen uh because we've only seen so much of them so far, you know. No, definitely. And uh I think the lobster will work, so I think we should jump to the lobby and do that.
Open beta. Can you show off some Anissa? Maybe. I mean, I think we'll focus on the new characters that have actually been shown off, but let me get my big face out of here. Um, I think the idea is to show off some of the newer characters, right? Like how everybody is working in the game currently. And obviously Conquest is like the latest, you know, currently culturally also relevant character uh to events that's going on. So yeah, we're show Conquest. Let's get a couple of characters in here. All right, uh, Titan. I have not seen that much gameplay stuff on it.
Can you play him pretty well? Yeah, I can play Titan. Sick. He's fun. Okay. I want to I definitely want to see what he can do. Uh this got a couple more in here. All right. So, from a there's new there's new stuff. Let me uh do the penthouse. So, um Conquest, what's his overall game plan? Is he just like a bruiser? Sort of similar to Omni Omniman or No. Yeah, he's actually pretty similar to Omniman in some ways. Uh so, he's got a projectile. So using mole using Yeah, using mo Oh, that's his taunt.
A little little hard for the people. Uh his corks little back is going to be the projectile and you can actually hit the light button again to send it forward. So that first part can be kind of a projectile deflector if you want to think of it that way. Okay. And the second part actually sends it forward. Uh does it make the followup projectile more powerful if you if you deflect stuff? No. That would be a great idea. Bow. Hey bow. That sounds like a great idea. Okay. I think also the uh the booster version of that did a multi-hitting version of it as well.
Oh, my bad. Okay, that was a good one, too. That was super good, actually. Oh, so this really launches. Oh, yeah. It knocks back super duper far, too. Gotcha. Okay, so these don't angle down. You have to like if you want to get this really close to the ground, I can like maybe Yeah, it's it's kind of tough. You can sort of use it and cover a little bit of space with an assist. Seriously. Very cool. um solid projectile form. I think it's one of the better projectiles in the game actually just in terms of speed and uh the ability the ability to counter other projectiles just because Faith has two durability getting my first card to cancel.
Gotcha. Um and then he's got his crystal forward special which is the the charge you saw earlier. Yeah. So this one is wild because you can actually hit the button again earlier to shorten the distance or if it's going to be in range the character like to be there as well. You have a lot more fine tuned control over it. And the farther he goes, he actually activates super armor. Yeah. And it causes crumple and it causes armor break just cuz it needed, you know, a little extra, I guess. So, this is going to beat out even um uh even like the alpha counter, it's going to it's going to go through a lot of things.
Yeah, exactly. So, super duper powerful move. Uh does have, you know, a little bit of a slow startup though, but you know, since he can cancel it earlier, he has a little bit more control over how he wants to use it and place it. That was my shush in the chat. Yeah. Wow. Version is basically a stronger version of it. I want more. Um, and then he's got his DP, which is a DP. Uh, so you can go ahead and just try that out. Yeah. And the thing about this DP that's interesting is that it's got a second part to it.
So, right there. And the second part is actually an overhead. So, it is pretty effective. And I think you can actually charge the second part as well. So, if you just hold the button when you're doing the second input, you'll actually charge up and take a little longer, go a little higher. Yeah, that'll get balance. Yeah, it's a huge bounce. Uh, and the boosted version of this one is like super powerful. You got like plus range hard. Uh, and yes, you can cancel straight the normals out of both versions of them. You don't have to do the second hit of it.
So, you keep the mind game kind of going that way. Yeah. But that's the special in a nutshell. Yeah, cuz every character in the game, like for the sake of familiarity, because you're going to be swapping characters so much, that's like the goal of the system. Um, every character pretty much has, you know, it a fireball forward, a fireball back, and a a DP, right? So, that's going to be functionally different on every single character. Like, what happens in the air might be different than the ground, so they technically get more special moves. But in the sake of conquest, it looks like like everything he's got works in the air the exact same way as it does the ground.
Exactly. And the thing about like his moves that make him a little bit more dynamic, I'd say it's like if you do that forward special in the air. You can actually like recover from it and attack afterwards downward. So you can do for example air forward special and then on hit do like a down heavy or something. Or down medium. Uh sorry from the forward special in the air. Oh forward special. So Oh, sorry. I said forward. I forgot. your input. Uh you are Yeah, of course. Go forward special. So, yeah. So, that one basically and then you can do down in backwards, right?
So, it's a little bit slower. Oh, I see. But you can end up having you can catch people really off guard with this, but I can also cancel it and boom. Exactly. Exactly. And that one's a sick move, too. That's a down video, but charge. So, he's got some some similar stuff that um even Allan has where he's like unique like hold down attacks do different things. Exactly. Yeah, that's a great point. Yeah. So even uh crouching his crouching medium if you hold that one it's going to be a charge medium in a second there also has armor.
Oh wow. So it's a hard knock down from that one. So you can set up the oki with your assist etc. His air down medium is that stomp which is great out to show if you guys That's cool. Wait wait wait I got I got to test. Hold on a second. Uh if I did like Wow, that goes far and it can be kind of ambiguous. Mhm. Yeah, it's a little tricky for sure. If you can do multiple Yeah, it's fun. Um, what else are you going to say about him? He has his air heavy like a headbutt and that one's also chargeable to be a bigger headbutt.
Interesting. If you hit it on a standing opponent, it actually so on stand air charge heavy. I like the way this looks. It's so fun. Oh, yeah. You're trying to do boot stash. I'm trying to like I have to my my the buttons on boost dash I got to get used to but it's definitely a struggle to learn Bash but yeah super fun this was in the trailer I like this I was like man he's just beating the [ __ ] out of this guy he definitely seen the show and if you guys have watched the show you probably know headbutts are kind of a thing between cockt so and in terms of is there any other gimmicks he sort of has or is that the the big primary few yeah I feel like we got something right Feel like I'm getting something important right now.
Oh, the supers. Yes, the supers are important, too. So, he's got his course forward, which is this one right here, right? Multi. It goes forward, kind of homes in the opponent a little bit, too. Kind of help you in your alignment with this. But the other one's more interesting. He's got his course back super, which is the one that drags him across the floor. Now, this one is always going to go to the corner. So, if you're in the corner, it's going to do less damage because it's just going to end up right there really quick, right?
All right, you want to use this one specifically when your opponent from the other side of Oh my god, he drags him across the whole stage. Ah, cool. Very cool. And this looks like a really easy opportunity for Oh yeah. So that's that's a launch. This is a this is a tag opportunity. Yeah, exactly. If you hold the assist, you can uh you can actually tag off. Yeah, just like basically every every super in the game this great opportunity to get the tag in, but you don't have to do it off the super. Could be off any special or any normal even.
So tagging is very open in this game. I would say this move looks great, by the way. Down uh down heavy. It looks awesome. I I realize that I can only do so many of them because if I if I do too many, it's it'll it'll pop out cuz it's a uh it's like a unique attack. I think this is a combo ender. It's over now. Yeah. It's like the more ground bounces or wall bounces you do in the game, the more you kind of uh get hit by the penalty on the combo meter. So that's kind of the idea there because it's doing a ground bounce off of that stomp, right?
It's going to build up that combo meter faster the more you use in the combo. Yeah, I think in the air if you're doing the boosted DP, that'll automatically swap sides for you. Oh, really? So So that way you can kind of do the boost DP to swap sides. You can use your back super to go further across the base kind of like I need to get on the other side of them. Let me do the boosted DP. That'll swap sides and I can do DP the other way. Show me your interesting. Now we're getting somewhere.
Ah, man. I'm going I'm going ham. Um, wow. Yeah, he feels like he feels close to Omniman in terms of like speed and stuff like that, which makes sense. He's a Dramite, but uh doesn't have quite like the commanding air superiority of a character like Allen. And Allen is just whippy zippy, man. He's he's all over the place, dude. He moves so much in the air. So, I kind of like that. Yeah, that's because he has all of this like grounded armor on a lot of moves and crumble states all over the place. It makes it very fun.
Yeah. And armor break. I forgot to mention that his boosted DP is also an armor break. DP is wo. Yeah, boosted DP is an armor break as well. So, he's got a couple of armor breaks that really just dominate opponents who have a lot of armor. So, Titan's a great example of this, right? Titan is a character that's built around armor. So, if he's armored up, he's got the wrong form on. All the specials basically have armor on. So Conquest specifically is going to be good in that matchup using his boosted specials or even just a forward special.
Wow. Oh, that is crazy good. Split down like a short hop, etc. Yes. Now we're getting one I need to spend more time with. Yeah, I think all three of your characters right here, they have really good aerial mobility, right? They're all very good at kie dashing and they're very different than a character like Titan who just super grounded. No air dash at all. No double jump even. So, just completely different, completely separate type of play style. Yeah, I have not seen Titan like really fight a ton outside of the initial trailer. I'm curious how he like operates because I I love that the game has all these like also directional commands in the air and on the ground.
like obviously on the ground because of standing and crouching, but like he's got this one. He's got forward, which does something different. He's got the down version like you can really fill out combos and like almost staircase downwards with the majority of characters, which is which is pretty neat. I think the toughest thing in and for me is that I'm having to get used to um what is building the gauge so much, the combo gauge, cuz this builds a lot and that builds a lot. So, it's like, okay, so how do you work around that?
which is where the optimization of the game is really going to kick in, which is fascinating because these assists drop the combo gauge. And so the thing is too, like a big part of this game is whether your character is a groundbased character or an air based character. So all three of your characters are air based characters. So you can only do the boost dash cancel in the air. But every time you do a boost dash cancel in the air, your combo meter is also dropping as well. Really? So right now you're doing the four headbutts in a row, right?
But if you look at the com meter during it, you have like no combo meter used. Wait, I did not know that. So, okay. So, before I mean, I've we've played so many different builds of this over time that it's like hard to remember which game we're playing. Um, boost dashes were like heavy heavy heavy and heavies used to build like a lot. So, it wasn't this was like 6 months ago. It wasn't necessarily really worth it to do it like in the beta cuz it was like this is neat, but I feel like I can only really get it after um, for example, not bad.
Hold on. Where is What? That was pretty sick actually after one of these, you know, and then you just get all the meter in the world and it's like now I'm going to go crazy. I actually have the resources. But you're telling me now if I do this uh dude, it's not going down. Oh my god. Yeah. So, you can do much longer combos now doing boost dash cancel. Uh, so your limiters in the air though are going to be like you can only have one special and one boosted special in the air. Right. Right.
So you have to return to the ground to get access to those again. Kind of easy because you can do like a DP to take him back to the ground and then relaunch and get the air and boost that more. I'm trying to This is almost like an MVCI heavy heavy heavy heavy combo. It's It's And so Omniman can likely do the same thing as well. Wow. Wow, dude. So, now there's a really big trade-off where like you're going to use your boost gauge either on EX's or defense or I'm cashing this [ __ ] out, you know?
Exactly. So, the way it ends up playing out is just like you described when you have your character, you're kind of deciding, you know, if you get a hit now, I can catch up by using my boost gates, but that also leaves me kind of defenseless. I don't have access to a road strike anymore or quick block or assist breaker anymore. So, you kind of have to really decide is it offense or defense that I'm going to be spending the boost gauge on. That's neat. That's such a cool That's such a different tradeoff than it was before when it felt like mega situational.
Uh like if you get this stage transition or something like that, you know? Uh and Allan gets the same thing, right? Oh, yes. Every character will be able to do a heavy loop like that. Uh if they have a air boost dash cancel, right? But like even right now like you're doing the heavies, but just try doing like light medium heavy or just medium heavy boot that cancel and you'll see that you can do more. It goes down so much. Yeah, it's a ton. So you have a ton more combo meter to work with here.
Still do specials in the air. You can still specials in the air and then I can just like go for any of my launchers. Yep. And you can also call in your assist during all this which is wor even more, you know. Thank you. Oh, you know. Oh, you man. I did the wrong one. I did the back. It It definitely takes a while to land this up and get it all comboed down. So, I I see what you're talking about. Like there's the special move limiter that kicks in where it's like unless I do here's a normal special.
Let's repeat it. I have to use an EX here. To actually extend it even more. Wow. So optimized combos are going to get really interesting because it all depends on what starter you have and how much like combo gauge you have to work with. Exactly. And so like you know also you know going back to like the KI routes where you had the openers into normal right where you can do like you know heavy into special or special and heavy etc. Uh now for some characters if you say you're conquest good example here right you can't do boost dash cancel on the ground.
So if you hit something like say heavy into course go forward into heavy again like that right like if you go go back to normals after that you can't boot that cancel the end of it unless you lose this part myself but if you launch crouch heavy afterwards then you can start doing the boost dash cancel and lower that combo meter in the air. Wow, dude. Okay, so I am actively manipulating uh the the combo gauge now in a reverse direction. Like there's there was some modifiers like this generic assist will pop it down a little bit, but now I am like actively bringing the gauge lower um as a result of using boost gauge.
So I love that. I love that like boost is the most unique mechanic in this game and it's the most fun. It's also like the most important thing next to your life bar. Um, so it's really cool how many things are in there and there's like another offensive utility for it now. I like that a lot. Exactly. And the boost gauge, it recovers very slowly, right? That kind of incentivizes the tagging. So when you're tagged out, your boost gauge recovers way faster. So managing what checks in and out and all that is like a big deal in this game in terms of, you know, being competitive within optimizing.

And I think we also the window so it's harder to break those in general now. So before they were much easier to break sort of like a second throw break I would call it, But now it's much harder. The mechanics are coming together really really interesting where it's like now I see like things just don't beat things like flat out. There are clear weaknesses to to some of this stuff and like why you're going to use it. The biggest thing that I'm realizing that is like important to getting used to is that man, you have to swap characters out constantly. you just do. Uh yeah, the boost gauge is so important.
Like breakers are so important, but they all have like counters and rewards. So balancing all of that is like very similar to a KI situation where it's like my brain is going through a lot right now, but it's I'm having a good time because like even though I'm not good at it yet, it does feel good to be like I want I can beat this with that. I know I can beat this with that. I can try this. You know, there's a lot of like options. Yeah, you're it's one of those games where you have to be constantly engaged.
Like you can't your brain never really turns on right here. Like I broke that. I had to focus the whole time getting auto. I lost any time you lose a lot of red health. So like one of the counter strats now is like look for a snap action to snap in that red. You got me. Let's go. Okay. I'm going to get you while you're talking. Listen to me. I was attempting things. Yeah, Conquest reminds me a lot of Omniman where it's like their strengths are are there, but fitting them into a game plan takes a little bit of time, right?
Definitely. And Omniman's like the exact same way where it's like, yeah, I started to get familiar with him and with the right assist, he feels good, but it takes some time. Like he doesn't just immediately start like vibing and jelling. You got to figure him out. Which is why like everybody should play Mark because Mark like Mark fits on any team. like he feels like he can either be unabunga or defensive or just go nuts, you know? Yeah, for sure. So, uh, all these changes like it's a completely different game. Like, I know some things are looking familiar, but no, no kidding. Like so much of this stuff is completely like alien to me of like how it's operating and how it's working now. So highly recommend it. Um Oh, is it on Xbox as well? It's on Xbox, too. It is. It is. Things are just operating on a completely different level than uh the previous version of the game, dude. Like, no kidding. It's like, all right, I'm trying to like compromise and figure out stuff. I'm not even using half the mechanics. I'm still trying to figure out where the buttons are on my controller, but from what I was like getting into, it was really fun doing back and forth, like actually getting some cool mechanical back and forth where we're like, "Oh yeah, this beats that and that beats that and I can do this to that." Like, feels very good.
Um, I love I absolutely love the change they did to the meter system, to the combo meter system. I love it, man. The fact that you can use boost gauge to bring down the combo meter uh a a a crazy amount. That is so sick. That is so sick. So, that just means that like optimizing actual legit combo paths combos got way bigger as a result, too. That's really neat, man. I love it. I I need to start playing the game with that in mind because my I have never even thought of doing that in Invincible Versus ever.
Uh how did the footage look? Was it the last time it was like the game acted all funky on capture devices? Uh does it looking good on your guys' end? Was it looking pretty decent? Pretty nice. 10 out of 10. All right. Sweet. Yeah, last time I don't know what was going on. I was either on 120 Hz or the VSYNC was acting weird or something where it was looking good for me, but on a 60 fps capture card it was acting kind of funky. Um, great. Great, man. I want to play more, man. I want to play more.
I got to figure out a team. I got to like legit figure out a team that I want to rock with. Omniman's going to be on almost every team I pick, I think. Um, but man, there are so many more options now because of the mobility. There are so much. There's like It feels like there was even more stuff that was added from the previous build I played with John. Dude, like holy hell. I don't I don't have to have time just to sit with this. I have to play this a lot. I just want it to come out so I can play like people.
That's the thing. I have not really done a lot of Invincible is actually play against people. Um like over the years that we've been testing and messing with stuff. It's always been like these mechanical functional things, you know? So, definit Yeah, Omniman combos were pretty straightforward before. He was a little like linear, so I'm very curious how that changed. I'm very curious. Perfect launch roster. Uh I don't know much about in Invincible the show to know uh if the roster was satiating every demand, but it seems like there's a pretty decent amount of like weirdo characters and obviously identifiable meme lore characters.
Oh yeah. So it's a mixture of MVC, MK, and KI. There's not a lot of MK in there. If you mean by the gore, yes. Like it's comparable to Mortal Kombat. It is a is a gory bloody fighter. Um, if you're talking gameplay-wise, that is accurate. It is more It is the closest of all the tag fighters out there. It is the closest to um Marvel vs. Capcom because it does not have handshake tag, right? Uh it has an active tag, but that active tag only works on hit or uh on hit or block. So that's there's not a ton of games that are like that.
Like most most of the fighting games you guys are playing right now are handshake tag games where you call in a character's assist and then you transfer your control to that other character. That's not how Invincible works. It has a traditional tag like you know NPCish and then also uh an active tag that only works on hit or block. So you kind of got to be really and when you do that it can be like broken. when you actually do those things, it can legit be um like countered. So, there's a mind game behind tagging as well as as them as they're trying to deeply incentivize it.
They want you rotating your team constantly. And I and I think it also makes a lot of sense that a lot of the characters are pretty easy to play and they don't have a ton of special moves because dude, you're not you are not going to be hovering one character. You're just not. And you got to like, okay, so I'm going to be playing actually three characters. I need to be hovering those characters a lot. So, which specials are they? It's pretty much fireball forward, fireball back, or DP. You know, it doesn't really get that crazy.
They have some unique normals and things like that and air specials, but it doesn't really go crazy because there's so much mechanical depth happening between each one of the each one of the combat scenarios. So, if you guys did not get a chance to play the um the the closed beta, which was earlier last year, uh and you if you even if you like that a little bit, that that was such a different game compared to what they have now. Like that game felt like duct tape was holding a lot of stuff together. Um and now it feels like it's actually gotten the refinement and polish.
So, if you if you dug that and you thought it was neat, um, check out this version. It's going to be even better. And if you haven't checked it out at all, please just play it and you'll see. Just give it a shot and you'll start to see. I'll do like a tips guide of like basic mechanical things that not everyone's going to be using uh, at some point before the game comes out because there are there are a lot of things you can do with boost gauge and and mechanics and stuff like that. No pretzel motions.
There's no pretzel motions. No. Again, uh by default the game is a simple input game. It's like forward special, back special, neutral special, I think. Um but I don't play that on that way. I play with uh motion controls. So, I just prefer the motion controls. Yesesh, man. You got a basic combo creation like what you did for Dragon Ball. That doesn't even exist in this game. It doesn't exist because your basic combo is not always the same basic combo. You have to come up with solutions on the fly to extend your combos. You can't always do a generic like B&B, you know, like there's not really a ton of generic B&Bs.
You have to get used to it. Yeah, that's too motion controls get a small damage boost as well. That's good. That's really good. That's really good. Damn. I'm just going through [ __ ] in my head. Just going through a whole bunch of stuff. Yo, thanks, John. Good games, man. Yeah, I'll definitely want to play more. I need to my my brain is still having to figure out where things are on the stick. Um, and it's cool that like somehow everything got fit onto six buttons. That's great. But it took me like four or five games to eventually find out like where's this, where's that?

A B&B will change depending on one situation to another. Every character is going to have mediumheavy downheavy air launcher, right? But if you actually want to get good combos per character, that completely depends on what you started the combo with because the combo gauge can be u manipulated, you know? So, similar to Killer Instinct, that is the that's the exact same way KI is.
There's no B&Bs in KI, dude. You need to come up with solutions on the fly. You can't just go back and rely on the same old thing every single time because it will get broken. And it's kind of the same thing here, you know? You gota like you got to like kind of break your muscle memory in some situations. Yeah, I got one I actually ended up landing one boost dash combo with conquest in the air. It felt good. Or was it um Allen? I saw that it was about to uh I saw that it was about to break out.
So, as soon as I got in the air, I got one more button, and it was boost dash button, boost dash button. And it brought down the combo gauge a ton, and I was like, "Holy [ __ ] I get the world now. Oh my god, I get the world." Uh, what do I do? I didn't even know what to do. How's the character variety? Uh, pretty decent. Yeah, pretty decent. Your island is better than your Omni. Dude, Omniman is different. Like, it's not the same Omniman that was in the beta, so I have to like get used to it.
He's uh he's not the same. Um and I'll show some really cool combo [ __ ] that you can do. I don't know if it still works, but you can do like if if they don't have break break meter, no kidding, you can do like full team rotation. I kid you not. And rotate back around again. So like you've done four or five tags if they do not have the meter to break it or if they're like one character that's left. There's really crazy things you can do. Um, anyway, let me turn on the Super Nintendo chat.
